Blood, Venom, and Darkness
This is going to be a faction-based campaign setting. Please feel free to post on what you want.
An Introduction to the World: Oltearnal

The world as we know is a single continent, surrounded by ocean on all sides with a few bordering islands in the south and southeast. The land's environment is magically mediated by ancient weather towers whose methods of creation and function have yet to be known, and thusly the agriculture, roaming creatures, and weather patterns are drastically different from one region of the continent to the next.
Politics and ruling throughout the world is done via factions, religious organizations that dedicate themselves to certain deities' philosophies. Factions constantly vie for control over different areas of Oltearnal. Some succeed, others don't. Some are very popular, others remain in the background. For the common folk on the mainland (those who live in The White Plains, Red Plateau, Black Plateau, and parts of the Dryscourge Desert) things aren't very different--even though different people come by to host different festivals or collect differently-priced dues, taxes usually come once per year and drafts happen very occasionally to never, so the average citizen doesn't have much of an opinion on politics.
Most of the action in politics revolves around heroic activity and supernatural resources. Some factions have rivalries with one another, which fosters aggressive behavior and usually leads to intra-faction wars. Some faction political heads are also very racist and certain groups will launch attacks on regions simply for the sake of killing citizens of that region (read: Genocide for Pelor!). In addition, scholars and ritualists may need expensive resources taken from the dire animals of Beastholm or stolen from fiends in the Land of Eyes, and occasionally factions try to take artifacts in their attempts to gain assymetric power and control all of Oltearnal.
