Brief Introduction

My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic is a reboot of the MLP franchise by Powerpuff Girls artist Lauren Faust, currently viewed by (almost) the entire Internet, not only the intended audience. Here is a place where we discuss the joy of friendship.

It's a clever show. It has excellent writing, character dynamics, humor, animation, and generally treats kids seriously rather than condescending to them. It has every right to be a 20 minute corporate committee designed infomercial, but it's not.

Pixar technically makes shows for little boys, and produce some of the best animation in the world.

No Brony could ask for more. I recommend watching the episodes in order. They're all up on Youtube. Unusually, Hasbro seems fine with having the entire series up in public because they've made no move to bring down any of the episodes. Search for "Friendship is Magic Episode 1" and you should find the series pretty easily... Or search for "Sharing is Magic" Google Doc. That is all.

Whoa, calm down there. The show is light hearted, optimistic fun but it's not for everyone. It's good fun, the community is good fun, and everyone can do with a reminder that friendship is magic but if it doesn't gel for you we'll love and tolerate you anyway. Plus, you might hit the wrong episode. Ask first?

> Derpy Hooves/Doctor Whoof

Two minor background characters who were adopted as emblems of 4chan. Derpy Hooves is so named due to an animation error in the first episode that had her eyes facing in different directions; 4chan has assigned her the role of Ponyville's mailpony, and her only line so far has been "Muffins". The show's animators are aware of Derpy's popularity and she's shown up a few times recently with her eyes obviously derped. Currently made canon in Feeling Pinkie Keen and in Faust's picture showcased below, Derpy was deemed important enough to appear in storyboards for Season II.

Dr. Whoof is a pony with an hourglass cutie mark; he and his kin save time and space very quietly off camera.

Almost every time a discussion of a popular story pops up somewhere, I feel like an incredibly snooty bully (the kind with fishnet stockings and a monocle), because my first instinct is to drop in from the skies and talk about all the flaws and reasons why the story doesn't deserve the accolades it gets. Maybe it would be better if I acted like a proper lady afterward and invited everypony to tea, but... argh.

I have become everything I hate. I am so wrapped up in literary critique that I have lost sight of the real reason why fanfiction exists: the enjoyment and delight of the authors and the readers. Things that achieve this deserve praise, regardless of their flaws. The flaws don't really matter outside of a discussion comparing the various stories.

Actually, could that be what sets me off? Am I taking the phrase, "one of the best" as a call to arms?


Go ahead and take it as a call to arms. Just make sure you don't do it out of spite and avoid saying anything that makes it sound like you're attacking the author. Really, these are only fanfictions. We're not talking about Lord of the Rings or anything here, there's going to be plenty of mistakes. If you can find reasons it doesn't deserve the title of Best Ever then help them fix it so it does!

How can you judge scale from those pictures? It's true that Derpy looks large due to the zoom in and the fact that the earth seems to be curved in the background, but given the mutable nature of the Equestrian landmass, I don't think it's possible to judge scale accurately without some kind of known reference length. For that matter, do we even know that the Equestrian meter and the SI meter are the same length? Or that the speed of light is the same in Equestria as it is in the rest of the universe? Pinkie Pie seems to suggest that Equestria has different laws of causality than Earth does.

My guess is that Pinkie's grandma is the one who only joined because her spouse made her. She's the odd one who who only doesn't follow the new rules by heart and reverts sometimes to old habits and laughs and smlies, equivalent to the earth hippie mom who insists that the children get potty training instead of letting them decide themselves.

Equestrian Pony Physiology:
A Primer For Humans

When first observing the brightly colored ponies of Equestria for the first time, humans might be tempted to compare them to the so-called 'ponies' of their own Earth, in terms of physiology and biology, that ponies of Equestria share the intricate systems of organs, bones, blood and muscle that Earth mammalians have.

This could not be further from the truth. For, you see, Equestrian Ponies are brightly colored for a reason: They are made of candy.

The vast majority of the inside of an Equestrian Pony torso is filled with a thick, sweet substance that resembles pudding. As such, they have few discernible organs, and no bones, or circulatory/nervous systems. The fluid nature of their torso, as well as the absence of delicate, easily-damageable systems, allows for impacts at high velocity without permanent damage to them.

This nature also explains the Equestrian Pony diet of plants and sweets. It is the sugars and starches (which are converted into sugars) that are digested and converted into more 'pudding'. As such, the sweeter the food, the healthier it is for an Equestrian Pony.

An Equestrian Pony's legs are comprised of a different material than their torso, made of a highly dense but slightly spongy material that is akin to a very strong marshmellow. This explains how an Equestrian Pony's hoof can be strong enough to buck trees, yet react to water as it does. Earth Pony legs tend to be far stronger than their Pegasus or Unicorn equivalents.

Furthermore, the 'pelt' of an Equestrian Pony is not made of skin and hair as an Earth Pony is, but rather a high-strength, high-elasticity, opaque 'gummi' substance, that is far tougher than normal flesh. This both explains the bright colors of an Equestrian Pony, but also their increased resistance to damage: They tend to suffer no gashes/cuts, and have a tendency only to become 'scuffled' up from impact.

A Pegasuses wings are completely comprised of this gummi-like material, allowing their wings incredible strength far beyond their small size. Interestingly, this gummi material has a tendency to 'harden' under stimulus, causing the so-called 'Wing Boner' effect.

The closest equivalent to bone material is in the head of an Equestrian Pony, comprising the "skull" that protects the brain of an Equestrian Pony, one of the few discernible and distinct organs belonging to the race. However, this skull, comprised of a substance closely comparable to "hard candy" is far stronger than the Earth Pony equivalent, as an Equestrian Pony can take impacts equal to a full-sized blacksmiths anvil from the cloud level with only temporary stunning and damage. Incidentally, a Unicorn's horn is made of the same material, connected to the skull, and through the skull, to the Unicorn's brain. This is what allows them to channel the information and energy that are needed for magic. This direct connection to the brain also means that a Unicorn's horn tends to be incredibly sensitive to stimulus. So called 'horn-touching' between unicorns causes a feedback loop that increases this sensitivity, and causes the Unicorns to experience the sensations and emotions of their 'partner'.

In terms of reproduction, Equestrian Ponies do so much like Earth mammalians, but with certain differences that are not under the purview of this document.

We have written this document as a brief primer for humans, as Earth-Equestrian relations have grown in the past few months, and a few questions have popped up. We can only hope that this answers most of the 'basic' questions. For more information, consult your local Equestrian embassy.

1. What events would you like to see in season 2?

2. if you could place ANY OC pony into the show who would it be, and how would you make their appearance work while staying under the shows parameters?

3. What background pony should become a regular part of the show? (luna and derpy aside because we know they get more screen time now) What should they do? what connection to the mane cast should they have?

1. I want to see the ponies at play in the winter and fall. Maybe like a summer shutdown/ winter welcome? and Luna's winter solstice.

2. Id love to see Midnight in the show honestly. but i have NO IDEA how to make her work without some thing scaring little kids. And not to toot my own horn but id love to see a Ponyard type character. And adventuring pony who never really gave his cutie mark any thought. while he loved adventure, he never thought his true talent would be sharing the stories of his adventures.

3. Id love to see more Zecora and Trixie even if they just remain minor characters. and id like to see more winged ponies. we dont have much contact with any in ponyville aside from rainbow dash.

If Trixie does come back I'd like her to be completely unchanged. She was a good magician, had a memorable stage presence, and she handled hecklers in a way that put the audience on her side. It wasn't her fault everypony in that town was crazy and took her act at face value.

I have a pony-tar now! He's a blank-flank for now, though. I want his "cutie" mark to have something to do with a "Stealthy Guardian" role. Ok so i know this has been more then likely discussed, but due to the catatonic thread slow down, we need a new in depth topic. So therefore i ask three questions.

1. What events would you like to see in season 2?

2. if you could place ANY OC pony into the show who would it be, and how would you make their appearance work while staying under the shows parameters?

3. What background pony should become a regular part of the show? (luna and derpy aside because we know they get more screen time now) What should they do? what connection to the mane cast should they have?


1. I would love to see more CMC shenanigans. (Plus WAY more Sweetie Bell songs.) I second the Rainbow Dash song. I would like to see Twilight get less awkward, but then again, that's one of her character traits. I would like to see more exposition with the other places in Equestria, ie. More Cloudsdale, Fillydelphia, Manehattan, etc. Obviously, I'd like to see more of the Luna storyline come out. I mean, she was only in one episode..

2. I don't really know a whole lot of anyone's OC's, so I can't really say.

3. I'd like to see more of Pinkie Pie's family to be honest. I want to see how they either changed or didn't after Pinkie's revelation. I actually would like to see more of the mane cast's families. (Maybe Applejack aside because she's had the most exposure family-wise, and has the most family that has had any decent screen time.) I'd like to see more of this so-called 'Time Society' as well. There have been several ponies in the background that have had the hourglass hip marks, and I'm curious as to why. It might be just simply an inside joke with some of the creators that like Dr. Who or time travel or something, but it would really be interesting to see.


Now I shall delve into some pony fanfiction.. I'm a little afraid because I don't really go for fanfiction.. Or shipping in general, but I'm open because I have a few hours. >_>;

Actually there is some overlap.

Solars are people who get a boost for being ballsy, Lunars are people who are ballsy and survive something that should have killed them by their own skill and toughness as opposed to getting a super power boost in the middle of it. Infernals and Abyssals, being corrupted Solars (I think I mentioned that in one of the two PMs I sent you, dunno if you got them yet. :smalltongue:) are people who did something ballsy and failed, in Abyssal's cases were usually on the brink of death when they agreed to give up their names and work to destroy Creation in exchange for surviving and Infernals some time afterward when they sold their souls to devils and turned into a giant chrysalis. Only Sidereals and Dragonbloods are determined by things other than their own actions.

And Alchemicals are robot-communists with the souls of heroes from another generation. :smallbiggrin:

Oh, and I should mention that Exalted does have Fate, though Exalts, and even sufficiently heroic mortals can alter fate by their own determination, Essence use and doing awesome things. The entities who monitor fate and ensure that the laws of physics aren't broken are action movie junkies. :smalltongue:

We get preschool, which is a fancy term for a daycare that inculcates an appreciation for schedules and obedience to random adults.

We get kindergarten, where in between naps, songs, ABCs, and some basic math, they really lay out the social adjusting. Get them while they're young and all; this is where they try to make kids good cogs for the system, because any grade higher and the parents expect actual learning, where "I learned that we have to share because it's nice" fits perfectly well with a five year old

Then we have grades 1-12, with an artificial division at 5-6 ("middle school" or "junior high") and 8-9 ("high school").
Used to be the division was every 4 years; my brother went to "middle school" in 5th grade, I went in 6th. I also didn't learn darn near anything, because of a whole bunch of things that are probably rubbing pretty hard against the "do not discuss on this forum" ruleset.

But yeah, we have 'get ready for how school works' grade, and 'series of numbers without meaning' grade. Especially since Gallophornia had to re-draft it's Exit Exam (the test to see if you were qualified to graduate highschool) because all the 12th graders couldn't pass 5th grade equivalancy tests.

I dislike the school system, in case it isn't obvious :smallwink:

Secondary School starts with Year seven, at 11-12, ends with Year Eleven at 15-16, when you do your GCSEs. After this you have Sixth Form or College, which lasts for two years (17-18, I'm at the end of the second year if you're curious), and you do your A-Levels. A-Levels qualify you for University at 19+, or you can go get a job.

The "year" terminology must have come in only a couple of years after I left primary school (the secondary school I went too was a private school; mainly because all the public schools in my area had a foul reputation and my Dad used to go there). My sisters seem to have an understanding of it, it just passed me by. (I think it must be the Year R or something that throws it out.) When I were at school, you had 1st-through 3rd year infants, 1st-through-4th year juniors and 1st-through-5th year senior schools. I dunno, maybe I'm just old an confused and it's simpler than I think or something, but it's always lost me.

(And given that's the school/class/grade system in my own country, you can image how utter blanked I am for foreign places like America or Japan!)

Ayup! A bit is 12.5¢, so two bits to the quarter.
There wasn't a smaller denomination in common circulation at the time, either, so they had a 'short bit' and a 'long bit'. Of you owed a bit, you could pay with a dime, save 2.5¢ and you payed the 'short bit'. If you only had a quarter, you could pay a quarter, get back a dime, and you lost 2.5¢, meaning you payed the 'long bit'. Whoever came up on the short end of the transaction had to suck it up.

A bit is also one of the pieces of a piece-of-eight, too. It's all in the wiki entry someone put up for bit (currency) or whatnot. I thought I was really interesting, considering that this system is about where the American market seems to be heading; pennies cost more to produce than they are worth, yet people treat them like trash. So if we drop the penny, smallest denomination is a nickel (5¢), and everything is rounded. So we will once again be stuck paying the short bit or the Long bit, based on final transaction price.

It's not a firey explosion, so much as a gorey one. :smalltongue: That said, there is a Charm that lets 5 entities combine into one for a while.

And that's one of Exalted's perks. None of the Exalt types have designated good guy/bad guy roles. You can have a Solar who goes around destroying small villages and murdering the inhabitants for the lols, and an Abyssal or Infernal who saves people because it's the right thing to do. :smallbiggrin:

Warning though, if you don't perfect or if you run out of motes, your cosmic powered god king can get 1-shotted by a dirt farmer with a big hammer. But if that happens, throw the book at your ST. :smalltongue:

To be more clear, the indecision with this piece is that I'm not sure if it's passably good or actually good, and I'm not sure about submitting something that's just mediocre. Ok so i know this has been more then likely discussed, but due to the catatonic thread slow down, we need a new in depth topic. So therefore i ask three questions.

1. What events would you like to see in season 2?

2. if you could place ANY OC pony into the show who would it be, and how would you make their appearance work while staying under the shows parameters?

2. Darn, you limited it to pony OCs; otherwise, I'd totally say Baron Awesome. But since it is limited to ponies here, add another +1 for Midnight here. I don't care that it would be pretty much impossible to actually introduce her in the series, I want to see the misadventures of that pretty purple pony animated. And, that pretty much exhausts my knowledge of OCs. What? Don't look at me like that. I already said that I don't read much fanfiction.

3. Just to be contrary (and because I re-watched Bridle Gossip yesterday) I'm gonna say Daisy, Rose(luck), and Lily. Obviously, they work with flowers and herbs, but I don't know how they'd be involved without also bringing Zecora back.

Something I thought of recently (perhaps it has been addressed before):

If Celestia is Luna's older sister, and Luna was trapped in the moon for a thousand years, wouldn't that make Granny Smith REALLY REALLY ancient? Maybe it's an alicorn thing, but it seems kind of weird to me. If the aging process of ponies were the same for all races, Granny Smith would have to be at least two or two and a half thousand years old, and known about the times when the sun and the moon either didn't exist, or moved on their own? They don't really explain it in the show (obviously), but it leads to some interesting speculation.. Would ponies in late adulthood look as tall as Celestia? Even Luna looks a bit taller/lankier than the average pony..

Anyway, it's late and my head is muddled.

(Edit: I've been reading through The Old Stories, and I quite like it so far! I might post some critique for you, Thanqol. I'm only about halfway through it at the moment..)

Ok so i know this has been more then likely discussed, but due to the catatonic thread slow down, we need a new in depth topic. So therefore i ask three questions.

1. What events would you like to see in season 2?

2. if you could place ANY OC pony into the show who would it be, and how would you make their appearance work while staying under the shows parameters?

3. What background pony should become a regular part of the show? (luna and derpy aside because we know they get more screen time now) What should they do? what connection to the mane cast should they have?

1. I would like to see Luna as a reoccurring background character, who brushes off or ignores everypony else until one episode, we find out exactly what intrigue she has been working on this entire time.

2. Hm. Iunno. Baron awesome count? I'd like to see a Baron Awesome.

3. None. I'd like to see more of the male ponies, but aside from some elaboration, I can't see the dynamic changing much while maintaining quality.


Well how else do you think she avoids putting on weight?

Something I thought of recently (perhaps it has been addressed before):

If Celestia is Luna's older sister, and Luna was trapped in the moon for a thousand years, wouldn't that make Granny Smith REALLY REALLY ancient? Maybe it's an alicorn thing, but it seems kind of weird to me. If the aging process of ponies were the same for all races, Granny Smith would have to be at least two or two and a half thousand years old, and known about the times when the sun and the moon either didn't exist, or moved on their own? They don't really explain it in the show (obviously), but it leads to some interesting speculation.. Would ponies in late adulthood look as tall as Celestia? Even Luna looks a bit taller/lankier than the average pony..

This is where the assumption that Celestia and Luna are goddesses originated. They look different, possess different genetics (wings and horn? Please) and are seemingly immortal. Twilight is only roughly 20, and she's an adult. Celestia is a millennia old and still barely into ... Uh, later ageness.

You know, I haven't given this much thought. Perhaps another holiday, some more of the lands besides Ponyville and Canterlot. Not so much an event, but I would like an antagonist or two, whether a return of Trixie or a new one. Obviously nothing too big, we don't want Lord Tirek turning Equestria into Mordor, but something akin to a rivalry or the hydra might work.

Not too sure on this one. I'd have to say a Ponyard or Don Quixote-like pony might be interesting. The dashing and gentlepony adventurer who takes Ponyville by storm.

The following is the result of me playing too much Team Fortress 2 the last few days and concluding that Scout and Rainbow Dash are soul mates, and having an odd desire to ponyfy him and throw him into my fanficverse.

The Setting: Some of the girls are in town for business. Dash went along and wandered off, eventually winding up at the pony equivalent of a featherweight boxing match or an Mixed Martial Arts match. Spoilered for silly.

Well, a big part of the reason the thread's going at the rate it has been has been that I haven't been there. I mean, I probably won't be back at my normal posting rate for the foreseeable future (like, I won't be living here constantly). But I think things will speed up again now that I'm not gone all day.

At the same time, I don't want to break the thread for the sake of breaking the thread. Unless we could get all the regulars on board for it, I don't want to alienate people.

So while it'd be a fun experiment, I'm willing to leave off if nobody else wants it.

Stuff in the RP that annoyed a bunch of people and that I've apologized for a few times now, but won't quit feeling guilty until some time between feeling like everyone has forgiven me and never.

Almost every time a discussion of a popular story pops up somewhere, I feel like an incredibly snooty bully (the kind with fishnet stockings and a monocle), because my first instinct is to drop in from the skies and talk about all the flaws and reasons why the story doesn't deserve the accolades it gets. Maybe it would be better if I acted like a proper lady afterward and invited everypony to tea, but... argh.

I have become everything I hate. I am so wrapped up in literary critique that I have lost sight of the real reason why fanfiction exists: the enjoyment and delight of the authors and the readers. Things that achieve this deserve praise, regardless of their flaws. The flaws don't really matter outside of a discussion comparing the various stories.

We've already been over how I mostly agree with all the other ponies abou how you have every right to actually judge and critique- if anypony here is qualified to do so, it's you.

I'll instead focus on the second half. Being what you hate. That's not fun.
I'm pretty sure you have already addressed this yourself, but if not well, like any habit just try and catch yourself in the act. Notice the pattern, adjust your thinking. You enjoy fan fiction from the loving work from the heart angle. They are both paths you are comfortable with. Just try and pull out of the one which is not right for the situation, and set yourself in the one that is.

I'd hate for you to lose the whole reason you are into writing in the first place.


Well fine then. Alternate discussion topic! Every time Bon Bon has had a "major" role in Season 1, she has been a super snoot. Glaring down Applejack until she'd gotten almost an entire stock's worth of free apples, or her "And just who are you?" treatment of Rarity in Green Isn't Your Color. All of this makes me wonder: in contrast to all of our fanoning in these threads about how she and Lyra struggle against the Equestrian economy, chasing their dreams while holding each other tight, might they in fact be incredibly affluent? Does Lyra show up everywhere because she's actually an incredibly successful musician with money to travel and pay for cloud walking spells? Are they the Ponyville Nobility? =D

Now I'm not sure where I lean. This makes so much sense. I like my rough interpretation because I don't see it as them struggling, but striving. My Lyra and Bon-Bon are living the dream, carving a life for themselves one day at a time.
But being in Cloudsdale, being all over the world... Lyra is obviously well-off.

I am so almost conflicted. I think... I think these two can coexist though. The fruits of their labors pay off with their affluence in Ponyville, while they raise their little Tootsie Flute. Raised in Ponyville, so the affluence doesn't spoil the wee'n.

I think the strain of such an unstructured RP, edging in on leisure time, wherein we all had to struggle to develop and make sense of some thread of continuity, wore everyone down. Anyone who left probably did so without any relation to tour actions at all. It was mentally exhausting because of how much effort went into a couple lines of text, which could be made obsolete at any moment (sometimes even before you write them)! So I think you are safe to relax in that regard.


Also, I haven't added a lot of new stuff to Semper Fi, but I did edit the last 10 pages I wrote. Oh the unnoticed typos.

I forgot to say something earlier, though! Try addition eyelids, higher on the outside than on the inside of the eye. It will add smugness with just a bit of color change. You'll have to get the angle just right, though, or it will look weird with the otherwise-sad looking eyebrows.

I dunno. That may be just the end result of their years of affluence. Bon-Bon let it go to her head. They know they've changed from their youth of hard work and passionate idealism. Nautili are awesome. I always wanted to live in the shell of a giant one and ply the sea for it's mystery and wonders. I also wanted to climb to the invisible, flying contents of hers gone by and see how each era of history played out in isolation.

I think we should compare My Little Pony to Shakespeare as often as is possible, so, in that spirit, Rarity is a dead ringer for Helena from All's Well That Ends Well (except Rarity has the somewhat less useful skill of dressmaking rather than doctory). They both get what they want through cunning and manipulation, but at the same time they're genuinely well meaning and they go out of their way to help others in need. Blueblood is a bit like Bertram (though that's more of a stretch; if war exists in Equestria, I can't imagine Blublood going off to it), in that they both seem like the picture of chivalry from thirty feet away and the portrait of, uh, the opposite of chivalry from five.

It is shaping up well. I think adding in the comments Tirek makes during the debate scene helped. It made it more clear that he knows he has won, and that the ponies are only losing time with their arguing.

A few grammatical things I found:


" Whatever happens, ah love you."

You have a space between the " and whatever.


As the sounds of battle cries reached his ears, Soarin couldn't help look over his shoulder as they galloped; if he couldn't help, he could at least watch.

Might want to rethink a few of the words. You use "couldn't help" twice and then "could" one more time. I had to reread this once or twice to make sure you didn't accidentally restart the sentence halfway in.



Rainbow Dash cried out, "Look out below!"

I don't know why, but this bothers me somewhat. Probably the dialogue without introducing the character in any way, shape or form...actually, that is it now that I think of it. Rainbow Dash has been mentioned, but hasn't appeared once in the story up until this point.

The other ponies get a quick snippet, Rainbow Dash is introduced with her screaming and everyone looking up, without the reader looking up, so to speak.

Take from that what you want.


He'd take off, knock him out of his stupid little chariot, break that stupid trident over his knee, pound Tirek's face into hamburger and then he'd get creative. He wouldn't rest until he'd avenged Applejack.

The existence of hamburger opens up a big 'ol can of worms that I don't want to think about in pony. I suppose since hot dogs are physically mentioned in the show though, that meat products exist in Equestria.

Something I thought of recently (perhaps it has been addressed before):

If Celestia is Luna's older sister, and Luna was trapped in the moon for a thousand years, wouldn't that make Granny Smith REALLY REALLY ancient? Maybe it's an alicorn thing, but it seems kind of weird to me. If the aging process of ponies were the same for all races, Granny Smith would have to be at least two or two and a half thousand years old, and known about the times when the sun and the moon either didn't exist, or moved on their own? They don't really explain it in the show (obviously), but it leads to some interesting speculation.. Would ponies in late adulthood look as tall as Celestia? Even Luna looks a bit taller/lankier than the average pony..

Anyway, it's late and my head is muddled.

Not necessarily. We can pretty much infer from the show that the life span of normal ponies is significantly shorter than that of Alicorns. If w e go by typical pony life spans, I could see her around 35 - 45.

I just started watching the BBC series a little bit ago, and I decided that I would go through it alphabetically, so Winter's Tale is a while away. Ok so i know this has been more then likely discussed, but due to the catatonic thread slow down, we need a new in depth topic. So therefore i ask three questions.

1. What events would you like to see in season 2?

2. if you could place ANY OC pony into the show who would it be, and how would you make their appearance work while staying under the shows parameters?

3. What background pony should become a regular part of the show? (luna and derpy aside because we know they get more screen time now) What should they do? what connection to the mane cast should they have?

I have been writing this based on Aotrs Commander's idea of having Trixie as a bumbling hero. It kinda... morphed into a story of its own now though.

I had a quick read last night, but too late too comment; looks good. A couple of comments, though; there was one point (the description of one of the locations, the village I think) where you sentence ended apparently half-way through. You would also be better served by making sure everything is in past tense; a few bits of the side commentary (i.e. the bits that nearly but not quite Trixie's thoughts) that were in present tense, and it throws the rhythm off a bit. I find everything scans better if everything, even general statements about the world currently, are in past tense if everything else is. (Can't think of any exmaple off the top of my head, but no doubt you'll locate some yourself on another read-through.)

Her coat is that dark purple color in the background. My best friend made the avatar for me and SiuiS helped me come up with the design.

Well, considering the symbol of the Aotrs is two pairs of crossed blades on a spear, one cannot help but approve of a similairly understated design in the same vein. None of this over-complicated corners-cut-off-triangle-with-scorpion-tail in it, like the Brotherhood of Nod or something. Nice simple, and easy to slap on everything without having to go spare!

(I just realised; the Aotrs symbol would be Lord Death Despoil's cutie mark. I'll be sure to never mention that when I next speak to him.)


Of course, mature beauty has negative connotations, too. So I'll just say she is the pony equivalent of a beautiful woman pony Galadriel.

The bolded part implies to me that it did mild damage, just not much. In other words, not a blanket immunity to normal type moves, which is what I assume "Hug Attack" falls under. Well, unless Twilight cast "Odor Sleuth" beforehand.

Shorn of the D&D terms used to humorously render my abilities in a fashion most accessable to the D&D-familiar denizens of the Playground, Spirit-Bound Liches have a plethora of abilities, due to our "haunting" of our bodies, including:


Extremely high resistance (more-or-less immunity in practise) to almost all forms mind-attack and control. Almost all of these effects work on the brain and as well as the mind, and we don't have any actual physical brain structure to work on, or even an analogue to one, like technological creatures do. As an analogy, a real-world equivilent of Dominate Monster would still work on a Cybertank, as it has a brain, just not an organic one.).

Regeneration at a fairly considerable rate, due to our souls essentially being infused with our whole body; blow us apart us with something that does not do permenant damage and, somewhat like the T-1000, the parts will slide back together and reassemble over time. And a bit like Wolverine's super-ramped up healing factor, if you don't totally destroy the all the bits of the body with damage inflicted by the types of energy1 that cause permenant damage, we will eventually recover (though the process is not quick!) This also grants us resistance to effects that alter out physical forms for the same reason. "Permenant" damage is like damage to a human; it will heal, but at more a conventional rates akin to a living being's natural healing rate. (I have tended to call this "rejuvenation" here, as Undead cannot technically have Regeneration in D&D without being stupidly overpowered2, and I used the same word when stating proper Liches up for my own games.)

An aura of supernatural fear and awe, as do most super-power creatures (angels, demons, dragons, demi-gods etc).

The ability to drain the life-force and health of a living creature, on touch, and to a lesser degree, merely by standing in proximity; as a by-product, both of these effects also produce a great deal of elemental cold energy, increasing the harm further. The life-drain is pretty much permenant and irreversible, aside from rare magic (or even rarer very high tech) or over a long period. (In D&D, this equates closest to Con Drain - which, aside from magic healing only "heals" if you put your stat points into in at level up; similarly in Rolemaster, the effects equates easiest to reducing the temporary Constitution stat, which again can only be healed by (the much rarer stat-healing) magic or by level-up (though in RM - naturally - there are several alternate ways of handling it, one akin to D&D's negative levels). The cold portion is easiest to equate to cold damage in D&D and Cold criticals in Rolemaster.)

Absorbtion of both negative energy and elemental shadow energy (the latter is not like the D&D illusion definion of the term, but is best thought of of being like a darkness-version of lasers), similarly, we are (in practise) immune to cold-based attacks.

Considerable innate resistance to magic, psionics and similar supernatural energies.

Slightly enhanced senses, especially with regard to vision and hearing (we can see much further into the EM spectrum and hear higher and lower frequency sounds than humans). We can also see the emanations of life-energy coming from living creatures; this ability is best thought of as us seeing life-energy as a "colour" rather than an illumination.

The ability to do pretty much any action we could do in life (except excrete and perform sexual activity), including eat, speak, sigh, and occasionally spontaneously spew up random things if surprised.


The proficiency, intensity and degree to which any Lich or Skeleton Warrior3 manifests these abilities varies from individual to individual, though it tends to increase, as do all things, with time, power and experience.



1I'll leave you to guess at what sorts those are, because I'm not stupid enough to tell you! Not, that, sadly, they are especially rare in a high-tech universe anyway.

2Because the only thing that would ever inflict damage would be the thing that casues real damage; anything else causes nonlethal - which Undead are immune to. That's why, say, Vampires have fast healing, not regeneration!

To be more clear, the indecision with this piece is that I'm not sure if it's passably good or actually good, and I'm not sure about submitting something that's just mediocre. The following is the result of me playing too much Team Fortress 2 the last few days and concluding that Scout and Rainbow Dash are soul mates, and having an odd desire to ponyfy him and throw him into my fanficverse.

The Setting: Some of the girls are in town for business. Dash went along and wandered off, eventually winding up at the pony equivalent of a featherweight boxing match or an Mixed Martial Arts match. Spoilered for silly.



Dash: I don't know how YOUR weekend was, but I met the most amazing guy EVER. His name's Scout!
Dash: We just talked for hours. Flying, fighting, our childhoods... AJ, is this was love feels like?
Applejack: Uh, sugarcube, you're gonna have to use your words. Ah can't exactly see yer feelins'.
Dash: He GETS me. He's just like me, only we're good at different stuff so I'm not afraid to admit he's better at stuff than me! That's rare!
Twilight: Um, that actually happens a lot. I mean, you can't do unicorn magic, right?

Dash: I said I always told myself I could be the best at it if I ever felt like it.

Harsh words were said, and the two found they could never go back to how things were. And to this day rainbows remind Scout of everything he could have had but lost.

So hey folks. I'm having the second thoughts.
Our planned Marathon for the 3rd, I'm starting to view it more and more as just a stunt. I'm not sure that's a good thing.

We have a couple folks who like the speed we are at now. I can't help but feel like blitzing through the thread is an insult to all the poor ponies who are having trouble keeping up as it is.

Thoughts?

This is largely what concerns me about it. We move through threads fast enough as it is, and I wouldn't want to have pony threads in general shut down if we do this and it bothers the mods. That and I just don't see how we can fill a full thread with pure pony-related goodness that fast without resorting to excessive RP or spam/filler.

Though I did have an idea if we wanted to have a specific theme or something. We could have it so we try to draw ponies as responses to posts instead of actually typing. (Like those Ask [pony] Tumblr things) I just don't think many people would be interested in participating in that.


What would make me so happy? Add an appendix to it, with the note "stores and regulates the body's love levels."

I second this. The ponies need something to regulate love.

Yeah, no idea what sparked that. But it amuses me to no end.



First, considering they came in at FTL velocity and we wern't expecting it, we didn't have time to put the shields up. Secondly, our sensor logs indicate they were coated in some kind of bubble/coating which not only protected the ponies from flash-freezing in the depths of space, but allowed them to phase through the hull, cleverly dumping the kinetic energy from their speed into the phasing to kill their velocity (and so they didn't simply splash on the wall). Our high-tech armour is solid, but even it's not teleport-proof. In future, now that we know, the shields will easily take the impact.

Secondly, "hug" is not a word that can be used to describe being hit by umpteen ponies, moving at near sonic velocity. "Bodyslam" is closer, or possibly "Takedown" or "Doudle Edge." (It also hurt them waaay more than me!)


I'm not sure how much damage that would cause them. We've seen Dash crash into plenty of things/ponies and it doesn't seem to affect them much. Maybe the ponies have that ability that makes them immune to backlash damage...



(I just realised; the Aotrs symbol would be Lord Death Despoil's cutie mark. I'll be sure to never mention that when I next speak to him.)

Y'know, with as much of a jerk as Bon Bon consistently is... I'm not even sure Lyra would be happy with her, sometimes. Like, as much as the fanon is that she's sweet and patient, the actual canon (if you accept that both times it was Bon Bon and not Background Pony #6) seems to paint her as kind of nasty and self centered.

Maybe she'd be better off successfully wooing Twilight after years of loving her from afar.

I think we should compare My Little Pony to Shakespeare as often as is possible, so, in that spirit, Rarity is a dead ringer for Helena from All's Well That Ends Well (except Rarity has the somewhat less useful skill of dressmaking rather than doctory). They both get what they want through cunning and manipulation, but at the same time they're genuinely well meaning and they go out of their way to help others in need. Blueblood is a bit like Bertram (though that's more of a stretch; if war exists in Equestria, I can't imagine Blublood going off to it), in that they both seem like the picture of chivalry from thirty feet away and the portrait of, uh, the opposite of chivalry from five.

I approve, but my brain has gone derpy on Shakespeare characters. Keep up the good work though!

I'm gonna say that Aotrs is a Ghost/Dark with the ability Super Wonderguard+. This ability acts as Wonderguard and Magic Bounce at the same time. Foes will need Foresight or Mold Breaker (or Fire Fang, because: Glitch) to be able to hurt him.

Well, I was thinking of it from a more sci-fi/fantasy-based direction, and less as an actual political figure. The name just sounds cool, and thanks to the (over)use of Chancellors as planetary or galactic leaders, it seems like it comes with a nice amount of power...

It is shaping up well. I think adding in the comments Tirek makes during the debate scene helped. It made it more clear that he knows he has won, and that the ponies are only losing time with their arguing.

A few grammatical things I found:



You have a space between the " and whatever.



Might want to rethink a few of the words. You use "couldn't help" twice and then "could" one more time. I had to reread this once or twice to make sure you didn't accidentally restart the sentence halfway in.



I don't know why, but this bothers me somewhat. Probably the dialogue without introducing the character in any way, shape or form...actually, that is it now that I think of it. Rainbow Dash has been mentioned, but hasn't appeared once in the story up until this point.

The other ponies get a quick snippet, Rainbow Dash is introduced with her screaming and everyone looking up, without the reader looking up, so to speak.

Take from that what you want.



The existence of hamburger opens up a big 'ol can of worms that I don't want to think about in pony. I suppose since hot dogs are physically mentioned in the show though, that meat products exist in Equestria.

Depends more on if you're shooting for the flattery angle or not. I'd go with Darth's way of putting it if you're shooting for flattery and Kris's way if you're shooting for being adorable (works best if colt or filly, not full grown). :smalltongue:

Random idea for a story. This is on the list of ones I won't write, so if anyone wants to start off here, go for it.

Celestia has had her eyes on Guardopolis for years, but has always been afraid to make the first move, since she thinks he might be scared off by her. So she's been playing the long game.

Then she finds out that he's been carrying on with Luna since about a month after she came back. She asks around and finds that he'd apparently been aware of her interest in him, but had found her unapproachable (like, via a palace spy/gossip).

How does Celestia deal with the fact that he found SOMEPONY WHO TURNED INTO FREAKING NIGHTMARE MOON more approachable?

Maybe it's just the zoologist in me, but I keep thinking, "hang on, there's a creature that's made of entirely easily digestable material that's basically like nectar, a substance made entirely as animal-rocket fuel? Every other species in the entire world, animal, plant or otherwise, is going to see it as an easily exploitable food source!" Creeeepy.

And now you know the real reason as to why most of Equestria is tightly controlled nature-wise, and why the Everfree Forest, with it's uncontrolled nature, both plant and animal, is considered so dangerous to ponies. :smallamused:

Serious Answer: Depression at her isolation, heartbreak and running away to hide at the Ponyville library with the one pony she is closest to, and is sent further into herself when Twilight reacts with her typical hero-worship. Until Celestia finally breaks down and Twilight finally sees and accepts the pony under the crown (as a friend, not just a mentor (etc)), learns an important lesson that while you should respect them, you shouldn't put anypony on a pedastal, even a Princess.

(Except me, obviously, you should put me on a pedastal (well, an effegy, anyway, else I wouldn't get any work done) and genuflect to it every so often (like once every five minutes or so.))

Well, the hat is purely functional. It keeps sun out of the eyes. Also, it makes Wonderbolts think you're cute.

The clothes... from an outside POV, it's so that you know it's a wild west episode. From an in universe thing, it could be intended as protection of some sort? Dunno. Or it's a local fashion trend.
