Hey folks. I picked up an original XBOX this past weekend, as well as Psychonauts and Steel Battalion. While these'll be keeping me busy for a while, I'm thinking I may want to beef up my collection, since I may well kill those games in short work. Well, maybe not Steel Battalion, but you know what I mean.

I pretty well missed the XBOX entirely, so I don't really know what's good on it. I know of Fable 1, which I'm going to fight tooth and nail to find for cheaps. I thought about the old Halo game, but they're rereleasing it in HD so I don't care. If I can beat up a thousand hobos, I may have enough money to import Metal Wolf Chaos, but I seriously doubt that will happen. Other than that...I pretty much have no idea what's on this system. What did you like? Which games were superterribad and should be avoided at all costs?

I'd give Call of Cthulhu, and Morrowind (game of the year edition) a spin. CoC isn't a great game so much as its very atmospheric. Play it at night. Morrowind was probably one of my favorite games.

(Good call on psychonauts by the way)

-gurgles- There was a CoC game? WHY DID I NOT KNOW THIS?! -dissolves into a puddle of envy-

Anyway. I should track down Morrowind - I had it on my computer but never ran it. I do love Oblivion, so Morrowind will probably still float my boat.

Hmm, the only few good games I know of on the Original xbox are Ninja Gaiden(which returns to the era of "Nintendo Hard"), Max Payne, and(not imho, but many people love it) Halo.

2 words: Jade Empire. Seriously one of my most favorite games of all time. The characters were great the gameplay fast and fun all around thumbs up.

If you get Fable make sure its the lost chapters, the extra content is worth it.

I am also going to recommend Crimson Skies, its short, really arcadey but it was quite a bit of fun.

+1 to this. You'll laugh, you'll cry, and you'll kick some ass.

Knights of the Old Republic. And maybe KotOR II. The first one is better, but the second isn't bad (until the ending).

Herp g'derp. I forgot all of those games were on the XBOX - since I never had it, they all just slipped my mind.

I actually had my friend's XBOX to play Fable: Lost Chapters a while back, so I do remember the extra bits are worth it. Of course I need to not be an eedjut and go play KOTOR. I'd only ever seen adverts for Jade Empire, but I'll look into it. Never heard of Crimson Skies. And Ninja Gaiden makes sense.

VanBuren, I've gotta say you're a pretty cool guy to have 'round these parts. You always do your research for reviews and don't afraid of anything.

Jade Empire is a fantastic game. So is Burnout 3 Takedown. Have fun with those.

A few games of mine (They're from early Xbox, so I don't know if you'd be able to find them, but I strongly suggest you at least look)

Panzer Dragoon Orta
Jet Set Radio Future

I've been playing Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance 2 with a friend of mine the last couple of weekends and its pretty fun. By all accounts, the first one should be even better, so if you're into co-op hack & slash RPGs I'd recommend getting a hold of one or both.

If you enjoy truly epic amounts of hamminess, you should see about trying to get Metal Wolf Chaos imported. That game is utterly ridiculous - in the good way - and it knows it and has a hell of a lot of fun with it .

Also seconding Panzer Dragon Oorta.

If you've any fondness for shooters, Star Wars: Republic Commando is pretty much a necessity. For my money it's the best sci-fi shooter of, oh, the last decade with some genuinely good writing and well designed environments.

X-men Legends 1 and 2 were out for the Xbox, those are both pretty solid games.

There's also Conker's Bad Fur Day: Reloaded, good if you never played the N64 version although not much of an upgrade if you have.

I second this, oh the comments are great. I also suggest Star Wars: Jedi Knight Jedi Acedemy. I had alot of fun with that game, it has guns, but I rarely used them. The lightsabers are fun.

Third'd. Plays like a Halo clone, but with quite a bit of atmosphere and excitement. A tad on the easy side, but oh dear is it fun.

Seeings as Star Wars games are being thrown around, I'm gonna include the Revenge of the Sith movie tie-in.

It's so much better than it sounds

Definently this and Dark Alliance 1, both worthwhile. Also try the Hobbit for Xbox. Great music, good puzzles, and not dead-easy.

I recall Dark Alliance 2 being one of those games that starts out great and tanks partway through. Not even halfway IIRC.

Lord of the Rings: Return of the King was actually really fun. One of the best movie tie-in games I've senn.

I'd recommend the two Oddworld games for this platform, Munch's Oddysee and Stranger's Wrath.

The first is a platformer/RTS type thing where you play as environmentalists taking down evil corporations. Oh, and it's on an alien planet where everything's messed up and there's both steampunk-ish technology, mystical shamen, and ugly/cute monsters with human intelligence.

The second is a 1st person shooter/ 3rd person platformer/ stealth game where you play a bounty hunter hiding a terrible secret past trying to track down dangerous criminals to pay for a surgery. And it's from the same universe and continuity as the first game I mentioned.

Both are awesome.

Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge should be familiar to many, given it pulls off the CS universe. It has a lot of flight puzzles and miniquests to keep you busy (and get you money)...

Avoid the similar-sounding Crimson Seas (which is a shooter game with RPG aspects). Bad cameras, annoying controls...

Then there's Destroy All Humans! You want fun, you got fun...

It's a tossup for Bard's Tale. Snarky as heck, voiced by Cary Elwes (of Princess Bridge fame). Not your typical fantasy story, a crazy main character, and odd ways to grab equipment. Also a lot of summons, which come in handy (and they have personalities, to boot!).

Gladius. Honestly, it has always felt like the most underrated game ever despite receiving awesome reviews. If you like tactical combat with heavy RPG elements, a la FF Tactics, then you will love this game.

Upon further review, it was released on the PS2 and Gamecube. So maybe you tried it, maybe not. Either way, it was great on XBox.

Both of the Star Wars: Battlefront games were exceptionally good. I also second the recommendation for crimson skies and the baldur's gate: dark alliance games.

Steel Batallion, Ninja Gaiden, Project Gotham Racing, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow and the Dead or Alive series.

Beyond thouse, all Xbox games are on other platforms (including PC versiosn which are better and will run on any modern PC) better or Japan only (Metal Wolf Chaos).

Oh yeah, I remembered the Destroy All Humans games (First and Second were fantastic, Big Willy for the Wii was terrible but irrelevant to this thread, and so is Path of the Furon though it was for the Xbox 360 and Ps3 and still was a lot of fun for me personally though a lot of people hated it and I can kinda see why because it's so glitchy and unpolished). Really worth checking out!

The there's Voodoo Vince. Great, fun, clever, unique platformer staring a Voodoo Doll. And it has a ROCKING Jazz soundtrack! Easily one of the best games for the system.

Tony Hawk Underground (THUG) is better than THPS3 imo.

And YES YES YES to Jade Empire, though you can actually play that on 360 too.

A few more:

Soul Calibur 2
Burnout Revenge
Jet Set Radio Future
Beyond Good and Evil
Otogi
Otogi 2
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time
Prince of Persia: Warrior Within
Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones
KOTOR I & II

Halo 2 had a real fun campaign.

I was never an Xbox sort of guy, though.

I can think of a few favorites nobody's mentioned yet.

Advent Rising: Fun action/shooter/demigod simulator. It's slow going at first, but it really picks up once you learn how to levitate and can enter bullet-time simply by combat-rolling. By the end of the game, you'll find yourself debating just how you feel like killing the next group of enemies. Good story.

Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy: Fun action/shooter/psychic simulator. Doesn't take as long to let you throw people with your mind, and does a good job of engineering environments to give you the most fun with your powers. Sub-par story.

Castlevania: Curse of Darness: This one's kind of an oddball. It's a "3D" castlevania game, meaning the map is on a horizontal 2D plane instead of a vertical one, with rises and falls in the landscape. You kill enemies for both experience and crafting components, and make new weapons and armor as you get new components. As weapons increase in power, their combos get longer. An interesting evolving-pet system. Story's decent, but the show is entirely stolen by St. Germaine. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Count_of_St._Germain)
