So I have this that I am trying to put as a sig (between the ----)

----

PC
KillBargle! Sinjian (http://tinyurl.com/sinjian) OC (http://tinyurl.com/bargleoc) IC (http://tinyurl.com/bargleic)
FewGoldCoinsMore Inasulis (http://tinyurl.com/Inasulis) OC (http://tinyurl.com/goldoc) IC (http://tinyurl.com/g0ldic)
MagicIsMight Sagardyn (http://tinyurl.com/Sagardyn) OC (http://tinyurl.com/magicoc) IC (http://tinyurl.com/magicic)
GameOfThrones Tyrus (http://tinyurl.com/TyrusT) OC (http://tinyurl.com/thronesoc) IC (http://tinyurl.com/thronesic)
FrozenLands Garvaugn (http://tinyurl.com/Garvaugn) OC (http://tinyurl.com/frozenoc) IC (http://tinyurl.com/frozenic)
EvilUsurpers Kelith (http://tinyurl.com/kel-human) OC (http://tinyurl.com/evilic) IC (http://tinyurl.com/eviliic)
DM
NecroTower OC (http://tinyurl.com/necrooc) IC (http://tinyurl.com/necroic)
----

Now, according to MS Word, that is 988 characters, so it should be fine.
However, I am repeatedly getting the "Your sig cannot be more than 1000 characters" error feedback.

So:
1) Is this a bug on the forum's part, or are there 'secret' characters that MSWord is somehow missing?
2) When you get that error, would it be possible to have the forum tell you how long it thinks your sig is?
3) Is it possible to make the limit more than 1000 characters?

I'm not sure how far off the total is between the ms count and the forum's count, but if you drop the quotation marks in all the url's it'll solve your problem.

The problem, iirc, is a matter of a difference between what Word counts as "characters", and what the forums do. If I recall correctly, it's the spaces that makes the difference.

Wouldn't that make it easier to get it through the forums since Word counts them?
(Word 2010 count it as 988 characters, including spaces)

Well geez, that's good to know. So here's another issue then: If the quotes aren't necessary, why does the insert link button add them?

See the next post, I was careful to avoid that problem.

Yes, this.

Considering the blank spaces and the line feeds (each line feed counts as 2 characters), that text contains 1004 characters. Without the line feeds, it has 988 characters.
Word doesn't count the line feeds as characters.

The quotation marks (") are not required but are suggested as part of the standard. Anything between the marks is treated as a string rather than being interpreted another way.

Ahh, that's good to know, thanks.

It'd be really helpful if the system could tell you "Your sig has X chars in it" so as to help know how much to cut out to make it work.

I was taught there are various stringbreakers in web development. If the thing you're quoting doesn't have them, say, if 'font' property = "Arial" you're good to go, but if it has a, say, space, like in "Times New Roman" and you omit the quotes, it will only read "Times" and will fail to pick right font.
