So! I started DMing a new campaign recently. In which all the PCs are Illithids, first session went well enough. They're using a monster class, and are currently gestalt level 4.

The party is:
Warblade//Illithid - Going to focus on Thralls.
Psychic Warrior // Illithid - Seems to be focusing on large amounts of damage, not much else.
Lurk // Illithid. Not really sure what she's going for. Just being lurky. Seems to be enjoying the scout role.
Binder // Illithid.
Cleric // Illithid. Going for grafts and possibly necromancy.

Now, I've got interesting plot hooks / items / similar planned for each PC currently. Except for the one who is playing a Binder // Illithid.

So, wise and creative playground. If you were an Illithid Binder, calling upon vestiges that usual humans would shy away from due to sheer volume of tentacles and eldritch horror - What would you expect them to be? And what powers might you expect them to grant?
I intend to have him pick these up as a form of loot.

Thanks,

Look up the Cthulu inspired vestiges on the forums homebrew; they are well done and match the fluff pretty well.

One of my favorites is Spinal Tap.

Zceryll (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/frcc/20070718) is the obvious choice, but I think you wanted to homebrew. Cthulu themed stuff is probably solid too.

Alternately, think about what sorts of things aberrations do, compare theme to spells, and then look at what level binders get similar level spells. Season with fluff, throw in a double handful of balancing magic, and voila! Homebrew.

As an aside, that party badly needs to get a voidmind creature as a thrall. The template's most awesome feature requires three illithids to use.

Does anyone know how balanced The Demented One's homebrew vestiges are from experience?

The WotC homebrew vestiges run the gamut. Some are really good others need work. You would need to evaluate them vestige by vestige. I recommend looking only at the ones that sound neat and go from there.

TDO's stuff is some of the best balanced homebrew out there.

'sides, in your campaign? The tiny bit of a power boost possible won't be noticable.
