View Full Version : What monster is this?

So, I have a visual stuck in my mind, a picture of a monster, but try as I might I can't think of what the monster's called or where I saw it. I *think* it's from a D&D sourcebook, since I don't know where else I'd see a drawing of a monster, though I suppose in theory it could be from a M:tG card or something. I've flipped through all my monster manuals to no avail, so I'm turning to this forum as an act of desperation.
It's a reptilian or draconic humanoid, very thin of body and face. In place of arms, it has tentacles (4, IIRC) and I think it was wearing robes.
Does this wring any bells for anyone? I can picture it in my mind, but have no idea where I saw it, and I want to use the visuals for a homebrewed monster.
Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a Yuan-Ti Anathema:

Beyond that, I don't know. I'm not that familiar with draconians.

Afraid not. *sigh*
I swear, I've looked through every 3.5, 4.0, and Pathfinder book. I must be dreaming it.
Or it's not from D&D...

Well, with some crude photoshop I've rendered my mental image from the chopped up bits of a few other monsters.

Now does anyone want to tell me what the @#$@!$% this is?
If not, I might just clean up the photoshop and use this for my players.

No clue, sorry. This is probably my last guess.

Well, you aren't imagining it, because I KNOW I've seen something like that before. Sadly, I couldn't tell you what it is.

It wouldn't be Demogorgon (http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=demogorgon&oe=UTF-8&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi&biw=845&bih=793), I assume? He's mostly reptilian, but I assume you'd have mentioned his quite distinctive heads.

I'd google to look around, but well to be honest, there's no way in hell I'm typing in anything involving "Tentacles" in google, I value the last shreds of my sanity to much for that. ^^;
But seriously that photoshop doesn't look half bad, cleaning it up and using that isn't a bad idea.

Off topic, that is about the Fourth most metal thing I've seen, and seeing as I have finished brutal legend, that is saying something.

That was my guess too...
Other than those already listed, I've got a vague reminiscence of something nasty, usually lurking in the Styx, but can't recall its name.

I think you mean we don't have enough monsters, (you made a small typo).
After looking through every single book I have on Dnd, if it's not Demogorgon I can only assume a very cultured Aboleth wearing a robe.

Needs more monacle! And a cumberbun! And possibly a bowler?

Could this be something from Arcana Unearthed/Evolved? There's this race of gaunt draconic humanoids called Mojh that your photoshopped pic reminded me of. They don't have tentacles but maybe the picture you remember is a variant or a template or something?

This. Also, D&D monster designers are way too much into tentacles. :smalleek:

Tentacles are the best things that ever happened to my D&D character! Illithids...
Oh, huh. That user you linked has the same date of birth as me. Neat.
The closest thing I can think of that looks like that (awesome) photoshopped picture is a Yuan-TI Anathema and someone else got that. Sorry, pal. :smallfrown:

It does sound familiar, but it could just be because it's how our secret overlords look a generally good concept for a creature, and easy to imagine.
Nice 'shop.

I officially thank you for the F.
I forgot about it, and I've used it once, against a party, looong time ago. Nasty beast.

A bit farfetched, but first thing that popped into my head from "tentacles in place of arms".
There are a lot thin reptilian humanoids with tentacles for arms in D&D.
