Simple Empower Question

When determining the 50% bonus to variable numeric effects from empower spell, do you simply roll half again as many dice as normal, or do you get the result, and multiply that by 1.5?

You multiply the result by 1.5. Empower would be even less useful if you had to round down from odd-numbered dice batches.
