Hello playground.

I'm a DnD player and DM and in the games I run I've found that maps are a big, big part of my DMing style. When I brainstorm for plot and possible adventures, or when I picture in my mind the current situation in the campaign, I find I almost always start by thinking about the world map that is in my mind. Even when I play, I usually want to have a good sense of the geography around me.

I tend to think about maps in many other gaming situations - every single fight, but also many cities and countryside areas.

Sadly, I'm very bad at drawing, so the few maps I've sketched out aren't really satisfying - but I'd really like to learn drawing some properly, sooner or later.

What is your relationship with maps? How do you draw them? Do you have any useful suggestions?

Try out Chris Perkins' method: http://yeoldeblog.net/2011/05/22/fantasy-mapping-101/

You can check the Cartographer's Guild (www.cartographersguild.com) for help with mapmaking, too.

Yeah I have very good experience with these guys too. I asked for two maps (free of charge) and got both, done exactly as I wanted. Hopefully, they will be of good use in my fall campaign

I used Campaign Cartographer for my world map but I guess any vector and or layer based program would work well (if you want to paint them yourself)

this took me about 5 hours with cc3
