View Full Version : Small animals to be used as a mount?

What are some good small animals/vermin/monsters that would be a good non-combat mount for a tiny character? Sources are limited to 3.5 books and I could probably squeeze in dragon/dungeon magazine material, but sadly no pathfinder.

acquire an effigy animal. will be kind of expensive at first, but having a mount that won't get tired will pay off quickly.

in terms of actual critters, a trained bat could do, but if there are other characters, then why not sit on them?

Dogs are small, IIRC. Get a Blink Dog and profit :3

I would suggest an eagle (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/eagle.htm). They're Small sized fliers and you can get'em with Wild Cohort (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/re/20031118a). Plus, it looks awesome.

It is better than looking awesome. Some of the most fun I've had was playing an awakened squirrel knight with wild cohort, wielding a pixie lance and divebombing orcs from eagleback.

It's for a halfling thrower in a 20th level gestalt game. I've got a ring of reduction that makes me tiny at will. Looking for a mostly out of combat mount, but would like to have a stat block just in case. Flight would be a bonus for a little bit of combat. Being a dex based char ride checks are pretty much guaranteed so I can prevent a few attacks on the mount.

I recall having a party with a tiny golemesque character (it wasn't I) who had... lightning lizards? Or something?

Anyway, it was a small lizard with a breath weapon. He loved the little guy.

That too would be a useful ability for a small animal to have. If my tiny rider ever ends up in the water it might be needed.
