View Full Version : "Predator" II: That One Movie No One Besides Me Seems to Know About

... which disturbs me.

See, we all know Predator (Arnold Schwarzenegger), Predator 2 (Danny Glover) and Predators (Adrien Brody).

But here's the thing. Some years ago, I saw a film on HBO that was billed as Predator II. It featured a stealth-cloaked killer alien that had a nasty habit of taking heads, a buff sleeveless mercenary as a main character, and a large amount of explosions. Par for the course, but I'd never seen or heard of a film like this. And it gets weirder.

The "Predator" in this film acted a lot like the Predators from the actual films, but there were several differences. For one, it was not wearing any gear at all. When the main character and the "Predator" face off near the end, it decloaks and reveals itself to have a similar shape to previous Predators, but has a weird exoskeleton, several Kerrigan/Andariel-like claws extending from its back. In addition, instead of wielding a plasmacaster it seemed to have a strange disintegrator-pistol with which it killed two major supporting characters in the climax.

And then it gets even weirder.

See, one of the major supporting characters who was killed mentions treating an injured mercenary some time before who had faced off against a creature like this before - an explicit nod to the Predator film Arnold Schwarzenegger starred in. In addition when the "Predator" is finally defeated (my memory is hazy here) but it also employs a nuclear explosion to clear the evidence and wipe the town where the movie takes place.

Here's the weirdest part: No one I've ever mentioned this to recalls a movie like this.

Am I crazy? Did I just imagine a non-canonical Predator film airing on HBO? And why can I not find any information about it on the mighty Google?

Help me, Playground, you're my only hope.

I tried to google it like you did, using various terms, but since it has the same title it's hard. The only thing that turns up of substance is... this very thread. Derp.

It's the craziest thing, to be honest. I can't even recall much of the plot, except I do remember that the main character survived the end-of-the-film nuke by hiding inside a well.

Also I believe the line "You are one ugly motherf****er" is never spoken throughout the course of the film, which is a big warning blip for me: even AvP 1 had a nod to it.

The only Predator 2 I know of took place in Los Angeles, and it was numbered in Arabic numerals, not Roman.
....Which you mentioned in the OP. Excuse me while I awkwardly back out of the thread.

Most likely it's a garbled memory, or a dream. Possibly, it was some kind of bootleg film or cheap knock-off (that may or may not have actually been called Predator anything or have aired on HBO)

It certainly doesn't ring any bells, though, beyond sounding quite like Predator 2.

I'm willing to accept the possibility of a bootleg, considering I would have seen it on HBO Asia (which might not hold itself to the same standards as its overseas counterpart).

This continues to trouble me. See, it does have certain elements of both Predator and Predator 2.

There are several rip-offs of Predator around, but I'm not certain if a rip-off would make such blatant nods to the film it was ripping off.

I politely wish to politely forward the theory that the OP is a monstorous madman who knows that I will not be sleeping soundly tonight with the terrible knowledge that somewhere, out there, is a Predator movie I haven't ever seen.

You now feel a fraction of the aching horror I feel.

I think I've seen that movie. Did it have really really bad dub work. Cause if so it may have been an Italian knockoff movie originally titles something like Manhunter, but I'm not sure.

The predator looking all weird and the nuclear bomb to wipe all evidence. Isn't that Alien VS Predator 2?

No, but it's relatively close. The star of the film I saw had short hair.

The bomb was detonated by the "Predator" or his buddies, if I recall correctly, so no.

Also the Predator in AVP2 ("Wolf") still looked like a normal Yautja. This one had abilities and a mouth that suggested he was, but there was all sorts of exoskeletal stuff that indicated he really, really wasn't. Also he had a weird disintegration ray.

You've prolly seen an odd foreign ripoff that was retitled for american release and subsequently 'lost' due to copyright infringement. If I can figure out the foreign title finding it should be easy. There was an Italian 'Alien II' after all.

HBO Asia

Not to stereotype the fine people of the Hong Kong film industry, but my money is on bootleg.

Alien "II", Predator "II", "Troll" 2...

It was probably a ripoff. Knockoffs can get pretty serious with themselves. Trust me, I exist in the same space/time framework of quantum logic that birthed "Transmorphers: Fall of Man".

One thing I want to ask is: do you really want to see it again, or are you willing to let some guy's acid trip with a budget pass like the poo it was?

If you really want to find it that bad, you could try to look for porn of it. Rule 34 supposedly applies to everything so maybe you could go that route.

Also: Can you draw what "Predator II" looked like? I imagine it as Kerrigan with a Predator face holding Marvin the Martian's ray gun.

Yeah, I want to see it again pretty badly, if only to convince myself that I'm not insane.

I'll sketch up the "Predator" from memory once I have access to my crappy tablet.

I don't suppose it was this: code red, the rubicon conspiracy, imd link. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0266414/)

This thread has reminded me of another film I saw years ago, and was thinking about the other day. It wasn't exactly a Predator knock-off (not like these ones, anyway), although it was about an alien hunter stalking humans.

The basic plot was two teenage couples going camping in the American back country, and getting stalked by an alien big-game hunter (with the added complication of running into a crazy survivalist-type who put two and two together to make five, specifically thinking that they were the advance scouts of an alien invasion).

The alien's main weapon were these starfish-like parasites that he threw at his victims like some sort of organic ninja-star.

(Needless to say, the whole thing was very cheesy).

Does anyone know what this film was?

I think we should all stop this talk about unoriginal movies and watch Zombies: The Beginning
