As discussed here: http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=211104, a project to expand the Warlock. The Warlock has suffered in terms of content, and WoTC seems to have specifically geared them towards being evil heroes and bosses. Complete Mages said they can get their power from pacts with Celestials, but most of their invocations have some evil-sounding effect.

Project Goals:

Flesh out the Warlock's possible non-evil power sources, with the possible implementation of FMArthur's Warlock Power Sources homebrew
Create new non-evil-sounding invocations for good-aligned Warlocks
Create new evil-sounding invocations for evil-aligned Warlocks (because Warlocks seem to have been stiffed on content in general :smalltongue:)
Compile a list of renamed/refluffed invocations from official books for a more generalized list, as one option.
Sort existing and new invocations into a similar system to Cleric domains as another possible character option.

This is a rough draft. If anyone disagrees, speak up.

First of all, I apologize for double-posting like this. I like to keep the first post of projects like this as just an editable list of what is done, and keep the rest (the contents of this post, for example) separate.

I wanted to post this to get the ball rolling, and I'd be happy to help with bookkeeping (I have some experience managing community projects on other games, especially community projects of Doom mods), fluff-writing and homebrewing, but this project kind of needs a leader to make decisions. I'm not experienced enough with D&D for this, nor have I been in this community long enough. I really hope that posting this thread isn't premature or uncalled for, but I wanted to start it off in some way and not clutter up the aforelinked thread further with discussion that didn't relate to his homebrew.

If anyone has any thoughts, please speak up. This is just how I see it from the discussion and from what I'd like to see. Also, I'll most certainly be keeping track of credit. I know from experience that it's really important to assign praise (and blame, depending :smalltongue:) where it's due. But first we need a leader and deciding where this project is going. I do have two (evil-ish) homebrewed invocations ready for critique, if anyone wants to see.

Alright, well, here's two invocations I cooked up. College started, so I'm a bit delayed, but I'm still throwing ideas around for some more positive-sounding invocations.

Bloodsomething
Greater, 6th
Upon invoking Bloodsomething, the warlock conjures a 25x25x25 foot cube of blood at a designated point within line of effect of the caster for 1 round per warlock level. Any creatures within or entering the area of effect are slowed, as the slow spell, as long as they are within. Any Haste effects (or any other effect that is countered by the Slow spell) are suppressed while within the area of the invocation but are not dispelled by the slow effect. As the area is filled with blood, neither water-breathing nor air-breathing creatures can breathe inside. Additionally, any living creature within the area of effect takes 1d6 Wisdom damage as a mind-affecting effect, as being within and possibly drowning in a large amount of blood takes a toll on the subject's sanity, and must make a Fortitude save or be Sickened. For every round they are inside, creatures take another 1d6 Wisdom damage with a Will save for half. The area also provides 20% concealment to creatures and objects inside.

Obviously, I can't think of a name. Also, I'm not totally sure how balanced it is. It was originally a Dark-level invocation, but a friend said it was a bit too weak for that. It's also obviously inspired by the Blood Elemental from WoTC's various articles.

Umbral Twin
Dark; 8th
With this invocation, the warlock creates a living shadow, a lesser copy of herself that lasts for 1 round per class level. The copy acts as a summoned monster, cannot be banished, but can be dispelled.
The umbral twin has half the caster's effective character level (the first levels you took), and has the skills, invocations and other abilities she had at that level. It has her current equipment, except potions, scrolls, artifacts, or other charged items. Any automatic or charged effects on equipment (1/day Haste on a sword, for example) are disabled. The equipment only exists while carried by the copy and disappears with it when the spell ends. The copy has access to racial and class abilities and spells the caster has, as long as they are available at the lower level. However, all copies draw from the same abilities, so if a copy uses a 1/day ability, it will be a day before any copy by the same caster can use it again.
You can only have one umbral twin active at a time. If you try to cast again while a copy exists, the invocation fails. The twin and the original may be distinguished by any active examination.

Example: A tiefling rogue 1/warlock 16 (ECL 18) has a +3 chain shirt that gives free action and can cast mirror image 1/day, has a wand of magic missiles and a potion of cure light wounds. She invokes umbral twin. The copy is rogue 1/warlock 7 (ECL 9) and has the skills, invocations, saves and etc. the caster had at those levels. The copy has the +3 chain shirt (without free action and mirror image 1/day), but not the wand or potion. If the twin uses the Darkness racial ability, it will be a day before it or another copy summoned later can use it.

Alternate version: Apply the Shadow template (Manual of the Planes and Lords of Madness) to the copy, minus the Plane Shift ability and level adjustment.

Again, not sure about balance, or how to word things. This was intended to be like Baldur's Gate 2's (PC version) Simulacrum, but turned into something like an animal companion.

Well I was actually in the middle of a project called Codex Invictus, which I actually planned to launch on Friday but you beat me to it . here is some stuff I had in the works. I've also got a couple of ACF's I was cooking up which should be ready later today.
Gear:
Eldrich Gauntlets
Discription: These Jet black Gauntlets thrum with power
Effect: these gauntlets allow you to enchant an eldritch blast, or similar effect like any other ranged weapon or ammunition, and are priced appropriately.
Special: Greater magic Weapon and similar effects can be applied, but not permanencied. Furthermore the application of the holy property has unfortunate effects when combined with hellfire.
Price: 1000gp + enchantments

Designers notes: Occupies the same slot as gloves of Dex. If you allow the splitting property make sure you double the penalty for hellfire.

Codex Invictus (least):
Discription: Large bound book of varing coloration and design.
Attunement: This book can be attuned to only One person at a time and once un-attuned, cannot be re-attuned to a previous owner. Attunement is a result of 8 hours of consecutive study and a person can only be attuned to a single Codex Invictus (least).
Benefit: You know one additional least Enchantment (chosen at the time of attunement).
Price: 20,000 gp
Designer Notes: This is the same thing as the Codex Advocare from Expedition to Castle Ravenloft, but with a few loopholes closed. And now for some logical progressions:

Codex Invictus (lesser):
As Codex Invictus (least) except you learn a lesser invocation, attunement conflicts with other Codex Invictus (lesser).
Price: 40,000gp

Codex Invictus (Greater)
As Codex Invictus (least) except you learn a greater invocation, attunement conflicts with other Codex Invictus (greater).
Price: 80,00gp

Chaustible of Fell power (Dark)
Adds 3d6 damage to Eldrich blast (shocking, I know)
Price 38,000 gp
Design notes: The old version did not have enough iterations for my taste, so I added one.

Prestige Classes:

Metamagic Invoker

Requirements:
Feats: One SLA metamagic feat
Special: one least invocation

Bonus Feat: Chose any metamagic feat that applies to SLA’s
Metamagic Flexibility: When you chose an SLA metamagic Feat, or use an old one, instead of applying it to a specific Sla you may now apply it to any SLA you gain from the invoking class you used to qualify for this class.
Metamagic Durability: Double the number of per day uses you get from metamagic feats.

Edit: also have a shiny warlock fix (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=72783) by MammonAzrael that I got permission to use for my other project.

I had no idea there was any other Warlock expansion projects in progress, I was just trying to get the ball rolling on a project to expand the Warlock with invocations, maybe some feats, maybe prestige classes, maybe items and alternate class features to give warlock players more options.

Well, would you like to continue your work with this? The project needs a leader. :smalltongue:
