The cold sleep

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-jqv6uNBjs

Is it a dream? You are unsure now. It has been so long, too long. Such is the nature of dreams. The faces of your loved ones, your 18th birthday party, your first kiss, happy memories intermixed with the sad ones, grandma’s death (at least he lived to be 150), Jim’s broken fish bowl, that exam you failed.

Then there’s the news reporter, the guy with the huge moustache for channel 38 you think. His voice is dire talking about some catastrophe. A war? That cannot be, there haven’t been wars on... why can’t you remember? Your planets name, it’s an easy word that avoids you. Someone’s crying and the screen flickers. Everything turns hazy green, you twist, and you turn. It turns to a wail, the news reporter covers his ears, he screams too. Everyone in the room is screaming. Someone jumps out the window. It becomes a wail. You twist and turn. You think your screaming now too. The memories you have, all turn to cracked mud then dust. There’s nothing left but ruins, a broken land that bakes underneath a pale grey sun.

Something jabs you in the right shoulder. You feel a bead of blood run cool down it and open your eyes. The screen is static, frost you realize. You close your eyes, go to sleep, and dream again.

Harvur

Alone and Exposed, the Surface

It has been three days since you left the artificial lights behind and the closed spaces. Now to you it seems that there is no space and that you walk in some abstract dream. A vast maze of ruins, an endless carpet of grey sky above, the pale sun peeking from time to time and you, tiny, diminutive, have to navigate through this all. You feel like one of the ants in that large ant farm your colony kept for amusement. Only that there aren’t any other ants to help you, they’re all safely back in the nest while you may fall prey to a hungry black bird like the ones that have been following you since you left the resort behind. If it wasn’t for their occasional caw and shadow, you would have thought you were the only living thing in this maze of skeletal buildings.

At least their presence means that there is water... somewhere (It would definitely help to have wings) and you need water. It’s been three days since you left home and you’re very almost out of food. Those birds could make a meal, but they are unappetizing, perhaps they are rotten inside or worse.

The map you have is old and useless. It shows rows upon rows of neat buildings, shopping malls, train stations, schools and other such things. You’ve visited most of the ones listed to harbor food but found nothing but broken porcelain and rusting cooking utensils. But now you spy a more promising site, a building more or less complete. The map say’s it’s a police station, a place of law keeping. Perhaps there will be something there and as you approach you hear the unmistakable sound of a gunshot.

Feldath

The lone alchemist

It has been a week since you left your home and experiments behind. This is not the first time you’ve left your refuge, but it will almost certainly be the longest. Your parents implored you to travel with Anthia Faeli, a female elf that was your play mate a century ago. The reason, they said, is that it is not safe for one to travel Ruin alone. They are right, but that wasn’t their only motive. It is no secret that Anthia is your best genetic match and that your parents got infatuated when they went on their own journey as well. It is grand children they want. Now Anthia isn’t hard on the eyes (her pale blond hair, almond shaped brown eyes and graceful build are not bad at all) it’s just that well... you simply didn’t want to at this stage. OOC: You give us a reason lol :P

So far you haven’t encountered anything noteworthy during your travel. The fauna is rare, famished and often mutated; the flora near none existent and the sky the same old grey clouded mess that doesn’t remember what rain is. Currently you are heading towards a place known as ‘Guard’s Spring’. It was a four story police station. Somehow the structure survived the worst of the wailing and the fact that it actually has a roof means that it’s a safe place to rest. There’s also the second floor. No one has managed to break in so far and you hope to be the first and, more importantly, there’s a tap that drops fresh, cool clean water.

However, the place can also be a death trap, for the water attracts bandits and worse too and as you approach you hear a gunshot. Someone’s here...

Lovel Alen

Fate by the water

Ever since you were exiled from your community you’ve been wandering the wastes. You have met few creatures, fewer still with which you could have a conversation with. Still it is better than having your horizons limited, even if the horizons consist of nothing but rows of decrepit ruins.

Living in the waste is harsh and the need of water, a commodity you rarely thought of back home, has become very apparent. Fortunately you know most of the local sources and the Guard’s Spring is nearby. You’ve never visited the place before, but it seems to be named so because the building that houses the dripping tap was once the fort of some sort of law keeping organization. The POL they called themselves or something similar.

The Guard’s Spring is also one of the few places in the wilderness were you can get a roof over your heard and thus not fear raids from giant hornets or worse. However, water attracts both the good and ill natured and as you approach the structure you can clearly hear a gun shot.

Someone’s here.

Ssmarrk

Thirst

In the pits you could drink the blood of your enemies; you could eat their flesh too. It made for an easy living. Freedom is nice but she comes hand in hand with two new mistresses: hunger and thirst. The first you can satiate well enough: (giant) rats are common if a wee hard to catch. The second wouldn’t be a problem; the rats are pretty juicy, if it weren’t for thirst’s pale servant the sun. He’s relentless and near drives you mad.

You have been smelling the faint whiff of water for days now and have been moving towards it. There’s a building with a roof up ahead too, from where the scent is coming no less. It would be nice to soak in some shade for a change. But as you approach you hear a gunshot and are reminded that you haven’t spoken to anyone in a while. This does not bother you, but what does is that ‘anyone’ could be a threat to you. But thirst is more dire than this and you decide to move closer.

My apologies if this seems to be somewhat of rail road. I need to get everyone together though. After this you can go in whatever direction you wish to go.

Also sorry Slaydemons but you won’t be doing much but being a sleeping beauty for the time being, sorry.

Excitement tingles up Feldath's spine as he checks the load in his pistol and sets a quarrel against the drawn string of his crossbow. He'd been in dangerous situations before, few on Ruin reach his age without staring death in the face a few times, but never on his own. A wise traveler would take that gunshot as a sign to leave, but Feldath doubts his water supply will hold him to the next safe haven. He does his best to approach the ancient police station stealthily, a shaky hand vacillating between the stock of his shouldered crossbow and the shield extract at his belt.

Ssmark hisses.
Hand thunderer noises, those things are nasty, he remembers the last time he saw some used, they easily pierced his armor, but his trident was faster than the thunderer could fire again, and so the marksman throat soon became filled with roles from the triple points of the weapon. Hopefully this time he doesn't need to worry about that, festering wounds in the wastes are a surer death than the roaming dead. The latter you can at least fight against or run from.
He walks cautiosly, to avoid any obvious ambush, stealth is futile with the clank of his armor, so he draws his shield and trident, in case a fight shall break, all the while heading towards the water scent, maybe this source is pure enough to feel his waterskin?

Harvur nearly leaped out of his skin when he heard the gunshot. The first noise of intelligent habitation, and it had to be a hostile one. He felt his heart hammering, and sweat began to pour out of him. He struggled to calm himself down; he couldn't afford to waste energy panicking. Carefully and silently, he approached the large building. He had to investigate, though he feared what he might find.

Who he might find.

It had been ages since the Great Wailing, but one look at the ruins showed that things had not gotten better. He remembered tales of the first forays to the surface shortly after the wailing. Once civilized people had been reduced to savagely attacking one another, even with their bare hands. Would whoever had fired that gun be any better? Could anyone living in this desolate land even be capable of anything but brutality? Harvur couldn't fathom it. Bringing his breathing under control, he pressed on, sweat-slick hands cradling his crossbow. He had to make a conscious effort to stick to the shadows. To his eyes, they made little difference, but the surface creatures couldn't pierce the darkness. At least, that's what the logs said. It would take some time for him to adjust his stalking methods. Back home, the darkness didn't matter much to anyone. Back home, it was always dark. Giving one last gaze of wonderment to the obscured sun in the sky, he crept out from under its light and into the shadows of the building.

You appear to be approaching the structure from the south. A number of buildings have collapsed into mounds of mortar here with one reaching up to a window on the second floor. You hadn’t heard any reports of this, but perhaps it isn’t surprising considering that the heavy rusty bars that barred the way into it appear to have recently fallen off. The window still’s intact, so if you want to enter you will have to break in or open it some way.

There appears to be no one keeping watch this side and your keen ears tell you that the other ‘guests’ at the spring are probably humans. There are at least four different voices you can make out, 1 female, 3 male, and, despite the eco distorting their voice, you can discern that they are arguing about the gunshot.

A small number of Collared Doves:

http://www.hamiltonnature.org/birds/images/CollaredDove1.jpg

have been put to flight. They are hardy, seed eating birds that need to drink water at least once a day. They also make good eating...

What do you do?

Ssmarrk

You are approaching the relatively intact building (and water you hope) from the North East. There are a fair few multi story ruined buildings here. These can be climbed to offer a nice view of the surroundings, though there are no stairs to reach them.

Soon you notice two humans perched on the second floor of two buildings facing each other. Both are wearing brown sacks coupled with darkened goggles as makeshift protection against the elements. They wear faded blue leather armour and wield muskets. Rather than manually climbing the ruins to their perches they appear to have reached these via a series of planks that connect their perch to the walls of the courtyard ahead (you can see a 15 ft wide entrance ahead).

Neither has noticed your approach and they seem to be distracted by something happening in the courtyard ahead of you.

“Hrome” one of them says “What a douche bag. Why did we bring him again?”

“He’s good with traps.” Replies the other “Apparently he didn’t write in the CV that his also good at not being quiet in a dangerous situation . I just hope that the report of the undead hoard is a false one...”

What do you do?

Harvur

You are approaching the building from the north. There are a fair few multi story ruined buildings here. These can be climbed to offer a good view of the surroundings, though there are no stairs to reach them.

As you are cautiously approaching the building you mindlessly step into a depression. This causes you stumble and looking down on the depression you soon realize that this is no random hoe in the ground. It’s a footprint. A LARGE footprint at least six times your own and probably 5-6 days old. It has three chunky toes facing forward and shorter one facing backwards. Judging from the pressure that created it, the beast is heavily protected, is quite tall and heavy. You are baffled, however, at what beast it belongs too as there were no creatures in the database that it could possibly belong too. Most surviving fauna was small and was either kept for companionship and/or food.

The tracks head NW away from the building your heading and you may follow them if you want.

They seem to be distracted by something in the courtyard behind them and have not noticed the similarly sized, lizard like, bipedal creature walking towards them. It is wearing heavy armour and its dull black scales are flecked with red. You have no idea what this creature is either, but it certainly seems sentient.

Finally you notice a small number of grey birds flying alarmed, a type of dove:

" Crap! " you hear one of the guards say as they notice you trying to hide "Who goes there?"

The question is accompanied by the clicking sound of arming firearms

Lovel, Harvur

The guards appear to have noticed the lizard-like humanoid and are now focusing their attention on it.

You remember that blue armor is typical of the Seekers. An organization bent on finding an Eden on another plane of existence. They generally aren't a hostile lot.

Harvur's breath caught in his throat as the lizard man approached the big building as though he owned the place. Harvur thought he might have from the way the big guy walked without fear, but the hostility that the blue men showed him shot down that theory. All his instincts and better sense told him he should leave the area immediately and look for a different source of water, but... these were the first non-dwarves he had ever seen that weren't on a piece of paper or behind a screen. He had to see how things played out. Content with the relative safety of his spot, he stayed put to observe.

Feldath watches the doves fly off, not daring to reveal himself with a shot at one until he learned more of the speakers. To that end, he sneaks up the ramp of rubble to the second story window. He peers through the ancient glass, prepared either to spy on those inside if visible, or to force his way in if the coast is clear.

The glass is scratched and 'foggy' and the room dark. You cannot see much, but across from the window, on the other side of the room, you can see the 'healthy' blue glow of an ancient terminal, the chair in front of it, a rusted iron and peeled plastic thing, has been moved and there are several items on the terminal's desk: a notebook, some pliers, a flash drive, things that someone would use to hack into a terminal. They rest atop a healthy amount of dust.

To the immediate left and right of the window you can make out the sites of some sort of rusted iron, wired, lifeless container.

There doesn't appear to be anyone in the room at the moment and the argument is still ongoing

Eyes widening in a covetous stare, Feldath almost forgets about the voices. Almost. He pauses for a few moments in indecision. "Too good to pass up." he finally whispers to himself, as he gingerly works the window open enough to slide in and sneak over to the terminal.

The glass complains as you try to lift it but eventually gives way.

The room is about 35 ft long and 15 ft wide with your entry point and the desk being roughly in the middle. A thick layer of dust and ash covers near everything. There are three doors. One on the far west wall has been left slightly ajar and seems to lead downstairs. Another is on the north behind, just to the left of the monitor, is appear to be thick and made of iron. The third is of a more typical metal build and is on the eastern wall. The blue monitor screen provides ample light for your keen eyes.

Upon closer inspection this appears to be a cryo rest area. Such places were common before the Wailing as they allowed personnel to get full days worth of rest in merely 30 minutes and thus return to work quicker.

All of the pods in this room have long been inactive and appear to have broken and/or exploded in a huge power surge (in two there are ancient, crumbling black skeletons that appear to attest to that). All but one.

This one appears to be largely intact with even the life support system still being functional if somewhat glitchy. The glass cover is covered by a thick layer of dirty ice preventing you from viewing its contents.

(You can scrape this off if you desire)

Returning to the monitor, it is soon clear that it is responsible for operating these pods. Judging from their notebook, "Hrome's Notebook of Brilliance", it seems that they, Hrome, has near completely cracked its security. Hrome even proceed to make fun of it, calling it a bozo and how stupid the people who created must have been.

From the notebook it is also apparent that they are trying to electronically unlock the weapon's safe found behind the thick metal door just to the left of this monitor's desk and are not interested at all in the still functioning pod.

In any case you judge that it would only take a few more 'lucky' minutes to gain access to whatever you wish to access.

There's no indication that anyone's coming up the stairs

Bhaakon

Could this be a real, live person from before the Wailing? I can't even begin to imagine the secrets it might know. It takes all of Feldath's willpower to keep from saying his thoughts aloud. Sure, there were a couple long-lived elves in his old community who could remember life before the fall, but they made a point of not answering the most intriguing questions on old tech. He makes a mental note of the weapons cache, no doubt a treasure-trove in its own right, but an actual survivor could be something really special. His fingers fly across the terminal as he finishes this "Hrome's" work on cracking the pod's security.

It takes approximately five minutes for you to be happy with inputted code. You press 'enter'.

A cracking, female, electronic voice is heard.

"P-P-Pod five-fi-five disenga-BEEEEEP-ging No-ow! Come-me-ncing-ncing BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!"

The pod shudders, the hinges screech, sheets of ice fall to the floor and electric sparks dance around it. A male electronic voice takes over now

"WARNING! SYSTEM FAI-aiiiiiluuuuu-RE! Commencing Emergency Emergency Extraction! Dialing One-One-O! Apply first AiD-Aid to sub-SUB-SuB-ject!"

The room starts to flash red, you're expecting a siren to start wailing any moment now, but only more sparks fly.

"WARNING! EVACUATE AREA! EVACUA-" BAAAAAAAAAAAAANG!

The pod's door flies of its hinges in a pulse of steam and slams into the pod across from it. Something within it moans and a recording begins to play.

"This is system-BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP-bz-EEEEEP of BEEEEEEPEEEPIP Corp. We hope you have slept well: Bast Alice FrEEEEEEP! You have one new message. Playing now:"

A natural male voice speaks now:

"Hello sleeping angel.

It's Michael. I was just wondering if you wanted to grab a bite once our shifts are over? Message me!

The electronic female voice continues now more cheerful and friendly now.

Another gunshot is heard from outside but she doesn't seem to register it.

Will is pleased with your response "Ssmark it is big guy. I hope I pronounced it right... Oh everything's just dandy out here in the waste. There's always something out here that wants to eat you. But I'd rather let the boss answer your questions, my tongue's to pretty to get cut. I go grab him now, you sit tight and I'll be right back. Mark the fort's yours, don't anything I wouldn't do." he winks at his companion

"You are such a prick." replies Mark faking insult.

Unlike his companion Mark doesn't remove his mask and goggles and continues to gaze down on you with undivided attention. His lidless stare is mildly disturbing but Will and his commander soon appear.

Markus you immediately identify as a warrior. He's barely taller then you, with short cropped near black brown hair and a masculine, square jawed face divided in half by a deep left to right scar. His eyes are steel grey, hard and judging. Like his charges his armor is pale blue and inscribed with an elaborate silver 'S', but it is two-three grades heavier and strapped to his back are a polished greatsword and a steel and rubber longbow.

"Commander" says Will his voice suddenly a lot more serious then before "This is-"

"Silence William" interrupts Markus "Having someone introduced is considered offensive amongst the Saurians. It is the person themselves who must introduce themselves." he turns to you crosses his arms on his chest and bows "I am Warrior Leader Markus Williamson, firstborn of Nickolas Williamson. I bid you wel-"

BLAAAAAAM! Another gunshot interrupts him followed by a joyful "I GOT ONE! I GOT ONE! NO MORE TRAIL RATIOS FOR ME! WOOOOHOOOOO! PROPER FOOD TONIGHT!"

Markus face instantly turns dark with anger.

"Excuse me" he coolly says and walks back into the courtyard.

"OOoooh boi! Hrome's really REALLY done it this time" says will shaking his head.

"Oh yes" replies Mark from above "He's going to get the 'hand' treatment"

LOOK MARKUS! continues Hrome "I SHOT ONE! I SHOWED YOU DIDN'T I? TELLING ME I DIDN'T HAVE THE SPIRIT OF A MARK- HEY! WHAT ARE YOU DOING! THAT'S MY GUN!" The sound of breaking metal follows "ARE YOU MAD!? THAT WAS MY WE-OUUF! the 'OUUF' is accompanied by a metal clang and a dropping sound, not unlike to the sound a falling sack of rocks makes.

Markus returns shortly thereafter a splatter of blood on his right gauntlet.

"Tell me Ssmarrk, and excuse me for using your name before you've introduced yourself, what does your clan do with children that do not listen?"

Harvur watched with trepidation as the two surfacers conversed. He could pick up what they were saying slightly, but before he could focus more he heard another sudden gunshot. Quickly, he turned his eyes to the reptile-being, suspecting an opportunistic killing, but the big guy wasn't shot. Instead, he watched the large human disappear and re-appear with a bloody hand.

That was different. No random act of violence, that was something a leader was sometimes forced to dole out in order to bring discipline back. He had seen the like often back home in Jechuty, where discipline was necessary for life. This was something he could understand, something he could relate to. This was something he didn't expect to find in the surface.

In an instant, he found himself giving into a sudden fit of optimism. Perhaps the surface wasn't so far gone as he though. Before he knew what he was doing, he was already out from behind his cover and walking towards the building. His hands were empty; his crossbow stowed away.

"H-hail, friends," he began nervously. "A-another fine cycle is it not?" He accidentally used the closest translation for a term his people used in their lightless world to describe a set amount of time between rest. "Ah... how are you?" he finishes, a bit weakly.

Markus is mildly surprised with your response "We don't do that here" he finally says and examines you closer "I knew a Saurian like you a while back... Same colored scales... Arxs Vizriv nox Abox was his name, helped me once fight some accursed cannibal raiders... He mentioned where his clan was located and I could point you there if interested. As for your hunting offer, thanks, but the area's dangerous, we've been hearing deep roars near nightly not far from here and there have been reports of an undead infestation a few kilometers south of here. I'd rather not get you killed by sending you out and...or attract their attention here. You're more then welcome to rest here and fill your flasks at the 'spring' if you want.

[B]Harvur[B]

"Boss, head's up!" says Mark at your approach and raises his gun

"Oh well aren't we busy today." says in amused tone Will "Next I wish that I beautiful d-..." his words trail off when his commander glares at him.

Commander Markus examines your approach carefully and is obviously tense.

"Mark lower your gun" he finally commands "You speak and are dressed strangely... You weren't followed were you?" His voice cool and calculating.

Feldath, Bath

"Y-you weren't part of Im?!" she says in a mixture of surprise and relief "Then what are you doing here? Why are you tampering with the terminal"

Harvur felt his heart skip a beat. 'The jig is up! They're already on to me!' he thought to himself. In an instant, he had calculated three different escape routes and was well on his way to finishing a fourth. None were very good, though. Luckily, he needn't have bothered. The big human went on to ask a question. Something to distract with!

"Oh? OH!," he exclaims in reply, obviously trying to buy some time as he thought. "T-thank you for the compliment," he says eventually, trying to pass off the comment about his clothing as a testament to its style. "No, no, no, no, no, I was not followed," he adds. "I am good at going unseen. It is... a talent I am in possession of, yes? B-but why do you ask?" he asks in return. "Is there something that would be following me? I have not noticed any great dangers while passing through the area." He pauses for a moment, considering his words. "I have no doubt that those exist, but none were near me," he adds to let the man not mistake him for a fool. The last thing he wanted as for the first surfacer he met to think he was a helpless idiot. He didn't know exactly how rough it was up here, but the dangers in the caves surrounding Jechuty had prepared him for anything.

At least, that was what he hoped.

"You may pass as well, though I find your appearance and... behavior..."

"Quirky?" fills in Will

"Yes, that would be the polite term... Will show these two to the water source and they may camp under a roof too if they desire. Note that I haven't given you leave to speak of our purpose further. Understood?"

"Yes, Sir! My lips are sealed Sir!"

"You will return to your post afterwards."

"Yes Sir!"

With a brief nod Marcus nods enters the courtyard, turns right and heads up a staircase.

When his out of sight Will quickly grabs hold of Harvur's head and gives it a thorough rub.

"Wham!" he says pleased "Now my luck should be through the roof! Me papi always used to say that rubbing one of them short folk-no offense intended small guy- was lucky thing to do... Our lady spring is right this way, follow me..."

Entering the courtyard you immediately notice a white-haired, violet eyed half elf lamenting his broken gun. His lips are broken and red and his pale face has just started to swell up. His dressed in a simple white tunic and black pants. He gives you a half dazed look as you pass by, not entirely sure how to react to your presence. In the end he ignores you.

"That there be Hrome" says Will in a whisper "His brain be good with electronics and such, but compensates by lacking the thing called common sense... He caused poor old Jenkins to get mauled by a giant centipede two days back, poor sod still delusional with venom and Hrome has yet to apologize the jerk. I wouldn't associate with him much if I were you. Heck, I wouldn't associate with him if I had a choice...."

He leads you to a room whose northern wall has collapsed. It's pleasantly cool in the shade and near immediately you hear the rare sound of dripping water. There's a small clear pool in the south east corner, falling from an old rusted pipe. Countless of small animal trucks lead to and from it, some bird, some lizard and some mammal. Living things must be drawn here from kilometers around.

"W...-will?" says the weak voice of man. "Is that you?"

Jenkins is slumped on the wall across from the pool. His face is covered in bandages as is much of his torso, the skins creeps purple here and there and he most likely has broken a rib or two.

"Why yes ol' pal!" says Will

"W-water please..."

Will quietly fulfills Jenkins request after which the wounded man passes out softly snoring.

"You may camp here close to the pool or next room... We are camped under the stair case and in the small room close to the walls. Do come visit! We have dried bug meat... dried rat meat oh and um... a freshly killed bird courtesy of Hrome. Any questions before I return to my vigil?"

It takes a while, but finally one of the guttering lights manages to stay alight permanently. It's a gruesome sight as the faint smell of decay reaches your nose.

There are two skeletons leaning against the wall and a lean, near anorexic corpse, sitting in between. On the walls, on the cabinets and drawers, desperate words and profanities are written in what probably is long dried blood.

Harfur endured the energetic man's invasion of his personal space. The logs had covered many eccentricities of the humans, but this one was new to him. Still, he didn't want to wear out his welcome, so he remained silent.

Along the way, he tried to ingratiate himself with the other new arrival to the building, the lizard man. The humans seemed easy enough to get along with; maybe the lizardman would be too. In the interest of co-operation and continued prosperity, Harvur engaged in the long lost art of "small talk".

"Hello, friend and fellow wanderer," he said to Ssmarrk. "I am Harvur. The surface conditions have been most tolerable, have they not?"

Then, at last, they reached the water source. Somewhat underwhelming, but beggars could not be choosers. They could have at least kept the wounded man in a different room, though. He turned to their host and indulged in his offer for further questions.

"Say, friend, your fellow human there does not look to be enduring his centipede bite too well," he says, not quite managing to lower his voice. "Would you mind if I repaid your hospitality in kind? I have... some knowledge of first aid. I am sure your allies are most skilled and have done all they can, but there is still a chance I may have some insight they may not," he says, folding his hands together in an ingratiating position. Though his words are stilted, his body language conveys that he doesn't mean to disparage the ability of the blue uniformed men or boast of his own. He simply wants to lend aid.

Role play please. You've just met

Hey now, I was roleplaying. Harvur was being perfectly polite earlier talking to Ssmarrk about the weather when the lizardman snubbed him! So I had Harvur snub him back.

Harvur jumped as the big lizard man spoke to him at last. However, he did not jump in fear. In fact, he had been anticipating this! He hadn't been prepared for many things on the surface, but he had at least spent the past three days preparing a cover story just for such an occasion! A cover story so plausible and believable that no-one would ever suspect his true origin or attempt to seek out Jechuty!

Smiling a little too wide, he turned to Ssmarrk. "Hmm, who would need a reason to explore this wonderful wide world of ours, oh?" he says, still smiling. "Is it not enough to stretch one's legs and see where they can take him? Ha! ha!, but no, you are correct. My home is a wonderful one, safe and secure, however recent troubles have made life more difficult," he says with an exaggerated frown. "Unsustainable, even! So, the community selected the most fit and able among us and sent us to the far corners of the realm; our mission: seek out technology to preserve our way of life." He holds a fist over his heart, his face full of grim determination, his eyes shining with hope. Then, all of a sudden, he returns to his usual blazé self. "So here I am, seeking a bit of refuge before I trudge on." Obviously pleased with his storytelling prowess, he indulges in another wide smile. The perfect lie was one that was so close to the truth that it was indistinguishable. He had read that once, though he couldn't remember where.

So what came next? He scoured his mind for any scrap of knowledge about proper surface etiquette. Ah! Of course, every question answered should be returned with another question.

"And you yourself? I couldn't help but overhear your conversation with the human earlier. The city called Pitts does not sound like a pleasant one, so I can surmise why you would travel."

The excitement over, Feldath turns his attention to the Doctor and his friends. "I bet you weren't expecting that when you hacked the terminal. That was you, correct?" He asks, as he swabs out his pistol, reloads, and holsters it.

"My dear, do you remember anything? Of the pazst-" the doctor has a lot of questions he asks but the sound of heavy footsteps makes him stop.

A tall, heavy man appears at the door causing Mathew to stand attention. He seems surprised at your presence and immediately puts his hand on the pommel of the greatsword strapped to his back.

"What's happening here!?" he demands "Who are you?"

"It izs alright commander Marcuzs" reassures him "This gentle-elf is... I am szorry I do not believe you've introduczed yourselvesz... but rezts azzured commander, they are travelerz like uz though one haz traveled a lot longer than the other" he gestures at Bast."

"I am Commander Markus Williamson, member of the Seekers and leader of this expedition..." the big man's voice is direct, blunt and ever so slightly aggressive when he speaks at Feldath "I will let you know that... I am naturally cautious of your kin... though I do not know your face or name so I am assuming that you had no partake in those events"

He takes a step into the room and examined the corpses...

"Thank Mercy that these aren't more recent... they didn't know better when they ****ed up the world..." he turns to bast

"Good work on getting rid of the 'thing'... Dr Pavloski see that these people get the water they need. They've more then proven that they're safe and good to have around. Mathew see if there are any salvageable parts left in here"

"Yez Commander" replies the Dr as the big man exits the room "Now if you do not have further buisnez in thiz unpleazant room it would be my pleazure to ezcort you down to the water."

((OOC: OK folks the party can now meet and be complete! Thank you for your patience and feel free to ask the NPCs any questions you may wish. Once you've all been introduced I will fast forward to night fall))

Feldath reluctantly follows the doctor down to the water, regretful that he can't spend more time examining the pod. Better not to cross that Commander Markus.

Seeing the crowd around the spring, Feldath shies way. Already today he'd met more outsiders than he'd see in a year back home.

fast forwarding to ~5pm.

The people around you seem to be packing up, not in a hurry, but it is evident that they will be living soon. Only Will approaches you, more so for casual chit chat, he certainly seems to be an extrovert though he is careful not to reveal anything essential...

After a while Nasha recovers. Not only is she relieved, she appears to be positively elated... perhaps a little too elated... Dr Pavloski seems to be keeping a close eye on her, but doesn't appear to be too concerned. He is also tending their wounded comrade, though he seems rather neutral about his condition...

The Half-Elf 'hacker' known as Hrome seems to keep distant from his group and appears to be rather distraught.

@Feldath, Bast and Lovell

You certainly do not feel comfortable around Hrome's presence. He looks at you as if he wants to say something... angry... but doesn't... It doesn't help that half his face now has bloated up to resemble an extinct prune fruit.

His eyes, however, are the worse... they seem to hide an unhealthy obsession.

@Lovell

During the half breeds mutterings you catch words and phrases such as "I'll show them" "... he (Marcus) will rot on the ground". He is certainly very angry

What do you do if anything?

Feldath seeks out the Doctor, since he seems fairly reasonable. "What's the matter with that Hrome guy? I got the impression that he was a bit, uh, unhinged from his notebook, and seeing him in person isn't changing my initial analysis."
