Hey, I'm sorry. I feel like a real jerk, and would like to apologize about my rather blunt opinion. It's a mistake you'll make, and will soon make up. (I once traded a Rather Festive Tree for 2 reclaimed and a Crossbow.)

If there are any Stranges you would be especially interested, your best bets would be the crate(s) those can come from.. or series 19+ in general, so you have a decent chance of getting something with some trade value to it. Otherwise, you'll most likely just get a standard weapon for your trouble.

I finally checked my email after about a week (YOU HAVE 200 NEW YOUTUBE MESSAGES) because I'm heading out for an all day birthday party dnd game, and I normally skip over the few messages that tell you people have subscribed to you....

He subscribed to me, and yes, it's legit. It's thee chungaconroy (http://www.youtube.com/user/chuggaaconroy) who has hundred thousands of subscribers and has one of the most annoying fanbases of all time :( It all started around when he did his okami let's play (which I heard of and it made me very happy because Okami is my favorite game and needs more recognition). When he did the lets play he linked to a few of my Okami soundtrack videos and I was raided by fan boys spamming "CHUGGAAAAAACHUGGAAAAAA" all over my videos and I had to do nothing but police it for awhile so a flame war wouldn't break out between the non fans and fans of this guy. Chugga eventually PM'd me about all this and I explained why I did it and we had a great conversation about Okami and the development of it's sequel Okamiden.

This is pretty surprising because I haven't done youtube projects for so long... Maybe I should start up that project idea I had for okami again, play it with music off and edit music from other games over it to give it a different feel. Just I know only so much music and there are literally hundreds in the Okami soundtrack. I'd play other games, but my commentary is only good in blind LPs of scary games so people can laugh at me while I cry.

Good news! For at least the next month there will be a dedicated server for GiTP to use for the game Natural Selection!

What is this?

Natural Selection is a hybrid FPS / RTS that pits Marines against Aliens ("the Kharaa"), played primarily in the first-person perspective, within the confines of large atmospheric maps of spaceships or space stations, which have been invaded by the Kharaa.

How do I get this?

As a mod for the original Half-Life you must first own Half-Life on steam (http://store.steampowered.com/app/70/). Then you can visit the website for NS to get the download (http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns/download/t), as this game is a mod for Half-Life it is free to download it once you have Half-Life. Please note that to install mods for Half-Life you must run the game to a gameplay screen at least once. This means going into at least training mode and not exiting until you can walk forwards.


What do I need to know?
There are two gameplay modes. NS mode is the main mode and is a FPS/RTS hybrid. CO is a bonus mode without the RTS element but with a slight RPG element. Most of the talk here will be about NS as it is the main mode and much more complex.

They do not like each other.

Marines:

One player is the commander, he plays the game as a top down RTS. The other players appear as troops and he can left click select them and right click to give them orders, unlike regular RTS games this doesn't send them to a location but instead gives them a marker they can see through walls that tells them where you want them to go. The commander also places down the foundation of structures which the regular marines build by holding the use key. The only player with access to the team's resources is the commander who can use buildings like the arms lab to research upgrades and he can also place down new weapons and items like jet packs for his team to pick up.

The marines lose the game when all of them are dead and there is no infantry portal for them to respawn in. If the command chair is destroyed and the commander has not built a back up one then the marines will no longer be able to build anything though they could theoretically win from this position still.

By default the marines are very squishy dying to the most basic alien in about 3 bites and they move slowly, they are however much more adept at ranged combat than the aliens.

Late game marines generally wear heavy armour which gives them a lot of health and use weapons that can kill all but the strongest aliens in less than a second of firing.

Windows 7 and Vista uses set "cl_gammaramp 0" if your commander UI is not displaying properly.

Aliens:

There is no commander for the aliens. Resources are spread out between the whole team and everyone has a max of 100 resource. Aliens right click to bring up a menu that gives them choices including evolving into a new life form and evolving upgraded abilities (faster movement, health regeneration etc.). Your evolutions are reset upon respawning and you can change your life form at any point providing your have the resources. The gorge class of alien can place and build structures at the cost of his own resources however he does this in first person and there is no limit to how many gorges your team can have at a time. Unlike the marine team who respawn at infantry portals the commander can place anywhere the aliens spawn at hives, there are 3 set hive locations in every map and they are the only places that the alien team can build hives. The more hives the aliens have the more upgrade abilities they can research and the more attacks they have. When all hives are destroyed aliens no longer spawn and begin losing health continually, a hive can still be rebuilt from this position providing you survive long enough and have the resources to do it.

The default alien is the Skulk. The Skulk doesn't have very much health however he moves quickly, is small and can stick to walls allowing him to attack the marines in ways reminiscent of Alien. The Skulk's bite attack is fast and can kill basic marines in ~3 hits and a good Skulk can close the distance quickly. An alien player can very quickly evolve from a Skulk to a Gorge who is less mobile and offensive than the Skulk but has more health, better supports moves (including healing) and can build.

End game aliens include the Fade and Onos. The Fade can move at ridiculous speeds, regenerate his health, shoot acid rockets that do splash damage and has very powerful claws. The Onos has a ridiculous amount of health, deals a lot of damage and can devour enemy marines whole with his special "devour" attack. There is also the Lerk who can be accessed a little later into the game than Skulk and Gorge but not as late as Fade or Onos, the Lerk is a low health flying class that can harrass enemies with poison gas and spikes, or protect allies with its bullet proof mist.

For both teams resources are spent to upgrade your players and build buildings. Resources are harvested once every few seconds by resource towers planted on resource nodes. There is a set amount of resource nodes in each map and the struggle over the resource nodes is one of the most important aspects of the game.

CO mode:

This mode is good for new players and small games. There is no building in CO mode instead each team has a home building they need to defend (Commander Chair for Marines and Hive for Aliens) and they lose the game when this building is destroyed. The maps are far smaller and instead of getting resources for upgrades you level up after a certain amount of kills and gain points to spend on upgrades.

If you've never played this game before and are interested make sure to read the manual (http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns/static/comm_manual/basic/index.htm) or at least the quick start guide (http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns/static/comm_manual/basic/quickStartPointers.htm), as a hybrid RTS it is more complex than most FPS games.

The default minimap key is C, use this a lot.

This comes with an incredibly slow download (70-80 kb/s) as it installs the last 17% of the game from Steam instead of the disks. Does anyone know how to improve the download rate on this god-forsaken program so the remaining 2,400 MB don't take days to download?

Also change it to 10mbit (T1/LAN) connection for speed, even if your speed isn't actually that fast.

Yeah, internet in general here sucks. The fastest you can get here is about 10MBPS, and the least is just pathetic, with around a measly 50KBPS. That is the only reason to hate living here in Washington.

A moment of pedantry follows:

kb = kilobits, kB or KB=kilobytes. 100 kb = 12.5 KB. KB is what your browser shows when you download.

A T1 carries just under 200 KB/sec. Your college probably has a fiber connection.

This is why vermont is better. Lax gun laws all around. You can buy guns when you're 16, ammo when you're 18, and either your parents can give you either at any time. And from what I know, vermont had no restrictions on guns from other states. The US has a few import restrictions, mostly on fully automatic things. Note: this may not be completely accurate. From memory of looking it up a bit less than a year ago.

SPAZ does suffer from a fair bit of level grinding, it has to be said, and the plot doesn't really get going until you break through the Titan Gate to get to the galactic core, which is a goodly long way in!

If you have the money around it wouldn't hurt It's $10 for game and $5 expansion. I've been a casual magic player for awhile and this fits the way I like to play. I should note that the decks are pre rendered with set cards, you can remove the ones already in it though so you don't have to have cards you don't like. Each deck has it's own play style and chances are there is one that should fit you.

Multiplayer does work, at least for me. Its online only right now, and you can even play co-op with 2 other people against an archenemy AI (or player with new expansion) or 2v2 against AI or other players. I do want to try a 4 player free for all sometime for sure...

2012 version came out a month or 2 ago, 2013 will not be out for awhile, I wouldn't bother with waiting.

Battlefront II multiplayer is run through Gamespy, so yes, adding it through Steam would mean multiplayer would work fine. The only thing Steam adds for games that aren't Steamworks/cloud enabled is just the overlay.

Mirror's Edge is notably frustrating at times, with a great deal of retrying certain parts, either because you die, or because you're doing a time trial and that cost you a couple too many seconds. Once you get fairly good at it, though, it becomes very fun indeed. Note that the plot's quite silly, but this doesn't matter. Fantastic art, great movement... overall I like it a lot. Would certainly get it for £3.

If you do get mirrors edge though, and you don't have an Nvidia, turn off phsyx, or your game will crumple in certain areas. Took me forever to figure it out the first time I did it.

I'm not totally sure how the ads work, but the Project Wonderful site says Canada traffic is selling for one dollar, euro traffic at one dollar, US at five dollars and ten cents, and everywhere else at one dollar and ten cents.

Mirror's edge can anyone recommend this game? It's just $5YES it's fantastic.
It's frustrating, especially until you figure out what you're supposed to do, but it's SUPER fun. You run around on buildings and punch people.
