Brief Introduction

My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic is a reboot of the MLP franchise by Powerpuff Girls artist Lauren Faust, currently viewed by (almost) the entire Internet, not only the intended audience. Here is a place where we discuss the joy of friendship.

It's a clever show. It has excellent writing, character dynamics, humor, animation, and generally treats kids seriously rather than condescending to them. It has every right to be a 20 minute corporate committee designed infomercial, but it's not.

Pixar technically makes shows for little boys, and produce some of the best animation in the world.

No Brony could ask for more. I recommend watching the episodes in order. They're all up on Youtube. Unusually, Hasbro seems fine with having the entire series up in public because they've made no move to bring down any of the episodes. Search for "Friendship is Magic Episode 1" and you should find the series pretty easily... Or search for "Sharing is Magic" Google Doc. That is all.

Whoa, calm down there. The show is light hearted, optimistic fun but it's not for everyone. It's good fun, the community is good fun, and everyone can do with a reminder that friendship is magic but if it doesn't gel for you we'll love and tolerate you anyway. Plus, you might hit the wrong episode. Ask first?

> Derpy Hooves/Doctor Whoof

Two minor background characters who were adopted as emblems of 4chan. Derpy Hooves is so named due to an animation error in the first episode that had her eyes facing in different directions; 4chan has assigned her the role of Ponyville's mailpony, and her only line so far has been "Muffins". The show's animators are aware of Derpy's popularity and she's shown up a few times recently with her eyes obviously derped. Currently made canon in Feeling Pinkie Keen and in Faust's picture showcased below, Derpy was deemed important enough to appear in storyboards for Season II.

Dr. Whoof is a pony with an hourglass cutie mark; he and his kin save time and space very quietly off camera.

Seriously, current Pinkie Pie is too pink IMO. Especially for a show that's less girly than the previous seasons. SO MUCH PINK.

I'm not going to claim to understand why you made this thread before the old one was up, Trixie, but at least we managed to finish it off before moving here, lest the mods get upset.

Anyway, on the subject of Nightmare Moon, I really like to think of her as a separate being who gave Luna the power to get revenge, and goaded her into truly acting on it. This leaves Luna in the position of being repentant because she acted far stronger than she ever intended, but knows that it was all her doing, in the end.

Welcome back people who I never met that returned in the last pages of the previous thread!

Just thought that for people who don't look at the Brony List I'd give an update. Assuming I've been recording everything properly and no repeats (I think bobcat had a duplicate at one point) we are up to 87(including me) bronies only 13 away from being a whole .2% of the playground.

On a related note with how often people share steam names, for TF2 and the like, the offer still stands to add those to the list.

@Fiddler I'm pretty sure the reason why Trixie popped a new thread before the other was done is because of their timezone and sleep time etc.

Edit: And I get Pinkie'd by Titanium. Curse you typing speed! Also I think Pinkie'd will catch on, in this thread at least.

Sounds more like each type of Pony has a somewhat specific charm tree, like the mountain folk. Though, you should mention that Pegasi can also treat clouds as solid ground, as well as manipulate the weather.

And, because I missed the start of this discussion: are you trying to make a My Little Pony version of Exalted?

In this instance, I was using terms from Exalted to convey an idea that is intuitive to me, but hard to explain; I was usurping the language.

HOWEVER, I believe I had Lix or another list off a bunch of traits for makin ponies via mutation, which I am considering. It is my requirement for playing; that I get to be a magical pony. A pony Exalt, though, so new charms and such probably wouldn't be needed.

Sidenote, that is also my requirement for pathfinder. I will actually play pathfinder, if I can be a magical pony.

Thanqol, I think they changed the Exalted = ancient WoD thing. The actions of the Sidereals specifically averted a world that would end up like WoD.

Sweetie Welf, I gel'd the moustache. At full attention it was 2.5 inches bigger than when not held up by goo. So that's... 22.86cm according to google.

The trouble is, I forgot what it was like fighting my hair.
Spoiler'd for being about my human meat-shell.

I have the curly hair. Not sanders wavy, but curly.
Curly hair is made by having oval follicle, which squeeze the hair on the way out, much like taking scissors to ribbon makes the ribbon curl. Curly hair is usually thinner than straight hair.
Not mine. I've had a lock of hair last twice as long in a peroxide vial than hair is supposed to (science class, we all had to do it). So I have the worst of both worlds.

One side effect? Gel doesn't really work. At all. My hair, it rebels. We can work together, but it is no man's slave. It only started to work for me when my styling regimen became 1)condition 2) dry 3) separate knots. Anything else, combing, shampooing, drying to vigorously, styling, cutting, will ruin my friendship wig my hair. It tries to smother me when that happens.

Well now the moustache is doing the same. The only way to get it to behave? Wax. Lots and lots of wax. Twice as much as recommended. A lot of expensive, time consuming and tedious wax.

So in short, I don't have the time for a full relationship; I'm going to had to remove most of the moustache. I wanted to tell you before actually doing it.

Now; SOMEONE POISON JOKE THIS BLASTED LOG!

subculture extends beyond fandom. Fandom is the name for a group of fans. Subculture is a group of people who, well, develop a culture around something.

Fans can take on or put on their fan-hat at their leisure.
A subculture is more permanent. I'm a brony, a martial artist, and a massage therapist no matter what else I am doing. I may not be very good at any of those things, but they are part of who I am, rather than masks I assume.

So I guess the difference between a furry fandom and furry subculture is the difference between someone who likes the art, and an otherkin.

I've accepted that sometimes background ponies will appear anywhere from 2-6 times(more?) in a scene because that is their purpose but a main character with a double? [/complaint]

On an interesting note one of the errors pointed out is what could possibly be Trixie appearing in the background (4 times). So maybe there can be some ground for the whole 'Trixie returns to Ponyville' thing if you ignore the whole quadruplets thing. Now explain that one into Midnight's family tree and some possibly awkward nights with twilight happened too. :smallbiggrin:

I had a training course all last week (Monday to Friday), on top of which I had still had to work a couple of hours each day due to being short-staffed and having no-one to cover for me. So, a pretty exhausting week to start with.

Sunday morning... we had a scare. My 7 months pregnant wife is epileptic and had a seizure around midnight on Saturday. So, an ambulance ride to the hospital for her, and practically no sleep that night for me. Fortunately the baby seems to be okay, and they just kept in her for overnight observation. However, those were some truly scary hours, and I don't think I've ever been so relieved as the moment after the seizure in hospital when I felt the baby kick. Verily, an active imagination is both a blessing and a curse.

Seeing as my wife was under orders to do nothing but relax on Sunday after being released from hospital, to keep her from being bored and worrying too much we decided to sit down and watch television or a movie. I asked what she would like to watch, and she replied "cartoons". Naturally, I put on My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, because ponies make everything better, right? We watched episodes 1-7 together, and while she isn't as enamoured with the show as I am, she certainly doesn't dislike it. I will seek further opinion once we've watched some more. :smallsmile:

Sorry, bit of a pet peeve of mine. Machiavelli was not exactly what history remembers him as. He in fact hated princes and monarchs and was a supporter of republics. The Prince was written while he was basically under house arrest when the Medici family retook Florence.

Huzzah history degree being useful for once! I mean really, I at least can make some wild claims that I use my English degree to edit fanwork, but I haven't done much anything with the history one. Well, except use it to gun for a masters in teaching well...history. So I guess I have used it then.

Still, first time I've used it in pony thread!

I'm at some gladiatorial arena, watching the show. The fighters are basically tearing into each other and being ultra violent. Think like an 80's action movie with the special effects of modern cinema.

The weird part is this:

When I wake up, my entire vision is taken up by this image of Fluttershy just being cute, and the majority of my memories of that dream just burn away. I found this both odd and adorable.

Scoot without wings *cries* And she comes with a hand bag, or maybe it's a lunch box, which looks like it can be attached to the figure except... there's no place it can fit! Where's her scooter, dammit?

Seriously, I feel cheated. I love Scootaloo, and this is just craptastic! I honestly don't think Hasbro is even trying. Now I kinda feel like I shouldn't have bought this... If only Scoot could see this, she'd kick them all the way to the moon!

Anyway, at least my keychain is now 20% cooler. And it would be 200% if her hair wasn't a uniform blue! But I can kinda understand why they didn't do that... still, it was pretty pricy.</rant>

Not exactly an expert on psychology, but here's my take.

The Cute)
First, the animation studio deliberately tried to make the design of ponies as cute as possible. Given a picture of a pony, ninety-nine percent of the time we'll think it's cute.

There's no risk to their risque. We know that most ponies don't even wear clothes, and have anime anatomy (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AnimeAnatomy). We know that those ponies aren't trying to get sex appeal, they're trying to imitate a human emotion. Essentially, they're trying to impress us. Note that most of the time, ponies will look rather childlike. Because of the design of the ponies, we often interpret them as younger than they are. So just by looking at the picture, it has the same 'cute' appeal as a toddler (the pony) trying to imitate its parents (human emotions).

The Risk)
So, where does our sense of titillation come from? Our second impressions of the picture. Even if a pony does invoke the impression of a child at first look, we know most of them are adults or older teenagers, enough to understand what they're doing. The artist makes their intent clear. And that's what makes them risque.

TL;DR: The design of ponies allow them to be both cute (first impression) and risque (second impression).

I am in complete agreement with your rant. Pinkamena instead of Pinkie (Seriously, little girls can poof up ponies hair. I've seen it first hand. Go hunting for ponies at a thrift store.) Why can't hasbro? The accessories are THE DEFINITION OF WRONG in all accounts. Even Twilight's owl is the wrong damn color. The toys piss me off a little. Oh well. Hmm... I don't recall any witch ponies in the show, but there is an evil enchantress, and that's pretty much the same thing, so my answer's Zecora. :smalltongue:

Serious answers:
1. I'd say that I identify most with a combination of Fluttershy and Twilight. (Not very specific, I know.) I usually find myself stumbling between Twilight's nerdy awkwardness, and Fluttershy's shyness.

2. Favorite is definitely Fluttershy. She's just so darn cute!

3. Unfortunately, I find Pinkie most annoying. This is mostly in her personality, but I certainly wouldn't want her gone though.

4. I think I respect Twilight the most. She is the hard-worker that I wish I was, plus there's that whole saving the world thing. :smalltongue:

On Pegasi independence and isolation.

While the fact that the Pegasi have many citys that they only have the ability to live is generaly known by the inhabitants of equestria, the former extent of this isolation from the rest of the world is known only to land bound well-read scholars within the borders of equestria, the princesess,and of couse any inqurering Pegasi within one of the cloud-citys.

In fact, the pegasi where the last of the pony races to be join equestria, for the earth ponies and unicorns where already living together for more than three generations before the mostly-indipendent cloud citys formaly joined the kingdom. The true reason why has been lost to all but the princesses themselves, for while the pegasi themselves claim to have joined due to issues with dealing with the flying monsters of the everfree and the newfound unity of the Griffen tribes under a Tsar, the most learned of the earth ponies and unicorns say that it was due to the system of cloud farming that they had used for generations produced too little to feed the growing population, and required food grown from pony-grown farms to survive.

Neverless the reason, pegasi now are part of nearly every city in equestria, and are generaly seen as no more exotic than unicorns by the rural populance. Yet, the pegasi have buildings, dishes, and forms of dress unseen by the other pony races, and along with the mear existance of Cloudsdale, a large, semi-indipendent pegasi city dating back before the pegasi joined equestria, makes the idea of a pegasi kingdom above the clouds not just a dream, for it would take only a great event for it to be a reality

Anyways, overall the concept seems to work. Some thoughts I have would be to add a bit more details in a few areas.

For example: you mention that the griffins were unified under "a Tsar". An event of that magnitude might qualify for a name drop. Something like "The griffin kingdoms were unified under Tsar _________.

Basically what you seem to be getting at is that the pegasus were once independent from Equestria, but willingly joined a union with it once they realized that they stood little chance of continuing on alone.

Alright, so here might be a more cleaned up version of what you have:

The pegasus are a widespread race that live both in grand cities in the clouds as well as villages and towns across all of Equestria. What few know is that this trend is a recent phenomena.

The pegasus were in fact the last of the pony races to bow to Celestia's rule. Prior to that, they lived in rather isolationist city-states in the clouds, and would only venture out when hired to clear up overly disruptive weather systems.

There are conflicting stories of how and why the pegasus yielded to Celestia. The two favored theories involve war and severe crop blights.

Pegasus scholars have for centuries claimed that the reason their kings joined a union with Equestria was because of raiders from the Everfree and the unification of the Griffin Khanates under Tsar Nicholas the Dragonblooded. These political developments kept the Cloud Cities off balance, and one by one, they bent hoof to Equestria for protection.

More recently, earth pony and unicorn scholars have uncovered evidence of a severe blight that struck the primary crops of the pegasus. The results were mass starvation, mass migration (the first sizable pegasus community in Canterlot, Little Cloudsdale, dates to this period), and a ruined economy. Scholars who believe in this theory state that the rulers of the pegasus could no longer survive independently due to the strains put on them by the blights.

6. Most useful/useless pony?

1. The pony you relate to the most?
Probably Twilight because I'm an introvert for the most part, but like making friends, though they sometimes have to seek me out.

2. Your favourite pony?
I love all of them, but Applejack is my favorite because she reminds me of what it is to be young. She was the only pony to go from G1 to G4 without too many changes. :)

3. Pony you find the MOST annoying?
It really depends on what episode. Twilight is annoying in Winter Wrap Up, Pinkie is annoying in Bridle Gossip, Dash AND AJ are both annoying in Fall Weather Friends, and Rarity annoyed me in Look Before You Sleep. I think the only one that I haven't been annoyed by once is Fluttershy..

4. Pony you RESPECT the most?
I respect Celestia because I don't want to be banished to the moon.

5. Your best friend in the pony world?
Pinkie and I would probably be most in cahoots with random singalongs and just random hyper behavior.

6. Most useful/useless pony?
Useful - By practical means, I feel Twilight is the most useful because she has the most information (most of the time). She seems to have a pretty down-to-earth way about her thinking processes.

Useless - Egh, Pinkie is kind of useless except in episodes like Swarm of the Century and the pilot where she finds the book about the Elements of Harmony. I do love her to itty bitty pieces, but she's probably the least practical with Fluttershy maybe being a close second with her phobias. Both come through in the end.

Aaaaagh the spelling, it burns! It burns! When you hammer this more formally, I suggest making sure the grammar is correct.

Anyways, overall the concept seems to work. Some thoughts I have would be to add a bit more details in a few areas.

For example: you mention that the griffins were unified under "a Tsar". An event of that magnitude might qualify for a name drop. Something like "The griffin kingdoms were unified under Tsar

Ah, thank you for reading that pile of words! And the spelling will be the first thing that will get revised when I have a few of these written out, I assure you. Also, names and other details that seem vauge or badly thought out right now, such as the names of the creatures( Ryu is a placeholder name, any suggesions?) and individuals( such as the Tsar or the "last" Ryu) are going to be one of the last things put in. As for the for the actual material, it will range for actual write ups for the varying races, to things such as the reason why ponys bother keeping port citys, to what exactly are the Wildlands, anyway, and why do ponys fear it instinctively?

Anyway, as for the plan with these things, I will eventualy put them together into a enciclopedia type format and get it onto Equestria Daily.

Waiting for a review on BMiaRS, so I decided to write a bit on pegasus aerial combat. Hopefully, I didn't venture into too much pseudo-science and conjecture. As with everything I write, comments and review are always welcome.

Horseplay: Aerial Combat in Equestria

Equestria; the perfect society. In this realm all ponies, pegasus, and unicorns live in peace. But what happens when the peace is threatened? The soldiers mobilize, and the Pegasus Force takes to the sky. What would these aerial battles look like? Through analysis and research, one can peer into the world of pegasus combat.

Section 1: Organization and Equipment

Usually, there is a lead-up to a war. People (and ponies) do not arbitrarily kill each other; therefore an accurate place to start with the analysis of aerial warfare is preparation. Unfortunately, at the time of writing, Equestria has never been shown at war. So, how does one figure out how the pegasi would prepare for war? By looking at the most obvious military demonstration; the Wonderbolts. From the few reels of footage one can find of them in the show, they are always shown in a uniform, and wearing goggles.

The interesting thing about wearing goggles is that Rainbow Dash proves repeatedly that flying with goggles is not required for flight. (For the purposes of this simulation, it is assumed that pegasus magic forms a kind of protective force-field around the pegasus to prevent aerial collisions with slow-moving small objects, similar to the reflection dish in Star Trek.) So, what could these goggles be for, if they're for anything? A likely guess is that they provide through some sort of illusion magic a panel of instruments for the pegasus to read, allowing them to judge airspeed, flight vector, possibly an artificial horizon, and mission time, along with a few other things.

Second is the uniform. What could the uniform provide? Through what one can see through the show, it is likely that the uniform is sleek, to prevent drag. But, aside from drag, could these suits provide anything else for the ponies that reside in them? It's possible that these uniforms actually provide a second, magical, fuel source outside of the pegasus's own stamina. This allows for longer flight time, and long-distance bombing missions.

Now, from proof and extrapolation to conjecture. What kinds of weaponry would these pegasus be packing? The technology level in Equestria is inconsistent, and confusing. Some ponies live in almost medieval European-style houses while Manehattan is bustling with huge skyscrapers. The big question is how a primarily air-faring race would develop technology. The answer is provided in two ways; fireworks, and weather control. Fireworks proves the existence of gunpowder, or a magical substitute that functions the same. This would mean guns, however primitive, in Equestria. Second, pegasus can control weather, and create storm clouds. If pegasus were in a suitably moist climate (or around cloud level or 'in the weeds') they would likely be able to produce thunderbolts on the fly, and control where they go. This manipulation requires physical contact, so once that bolt is let loose, it can't change course. Pegasus would have two choices when flying:
1) Fly with a gun saddled to them and have to worry about load and mechanical errors with the firearm, or
2) Fly 'weather control' and be forced to stay relatively low in the sky, to be able to create and use thunderbolts.

I have a reason to not dislike warforged. I will play a warforged Druid, and I will turn into Thomas the tank engine. And other related monstrosities.
Would you say a steam engine would be more like an elephant, or a rhino? Stats-wise.

I was planning on doing stuff like that with a warforged Artificer I had once. He was going to get a wand of Alter Self and change into animated objects. Any animated object. Put the world back into the same fear it was in in 1st and 2nd edition D&D, where you couldn't even sit down for dinner without fearing that everything in the room was going to kill you.

Though to answer your question I'd probably go elephant. Also, random thing, because Adamantine Body is a feat you keep the bonuses for it when you change shape. You can't be a druid with it, but you can always be any other spellcasting class with access to Polymorph. Adamantine elephant anyone? :smallwink:

Customize the hell out of them? That's what I'd do. Really though I think the Pinkie Pie toy's about the only one of the larger ones I'm happy with, even without the poofy mane and tail. She just seems to come closest to the adorableness of the actual show ponies.

Not exactly an expert on psychology, but here's my take.

The Cute)
First, the animation studio deliberately tried to make the design of ponies as cute as possible. Given a picture of a pony, ninety-nine percent of the time we'll think it's cute.

There's no risk to their risque. We know that most ponies don't even wear clothes, and have anime anatomy (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AnimeAnatomy). We know that those ponies aren't trying to get sex appeal, they're trying to imitate a human emotion. Essentially, they're trying to impress us. Note that most of the time, ponies will look rather childlike. Because of the design of the ponies, we often interpret them as younger than they are. So just by looking at the picture, it has the same 'cute' appeal as a toddler (the pony) trying to imitate its parents (human emotions).

The Risk)
So, where does our sense of titillation come from? Our second impressions of the picture. Even if a pony does invoke the impression of a child at first look, we know most of them are adults or older teenagers, enough to understand what they're doing. The artist makes their intent clear. And that's what makes them risque.

TL;DR: The design of ponies allow them to be both cute (first impression) and risque (second impression).

We were talking about how one player's character is a 12 year-old girl with 30 charisma and trying to figure out how that works since 18 charisma is already superhuman. Conversation switched to her appearing literally as an anime character, and he (well aware of my love for ponies) attempted to poke fun at me by saying I probably see his character as a pony. I'd probably rank the ponies pretty near a 30 in charisma, so that very quickly backfired on him.

(For whatever reason we normally end up seeing charisma as physical attractiveness. Doesn't really work for children though, which means they'd have to be super cute or something. We tend to have conversations like that a lot.)

Even Snips and Snails come close, but they at least accomplished something. (Setting aside the fact that luring the Ursa to Ponyville was a horrible idea, they still pulled it off)

Also I think I've figured out what I really want to see in season 2. I want to see Twilight have a massive nerdgasm over something. I want her to see something/somepony and go absolutely out of it like Dash did when she won the Young Flyers Competition.

My friend was a DM once, and one of the members of the party had recently died. The player shows up a week later, with a character that had ones in every attribute but Charisma, which he had fifty of (due to a houserule). He goes; this is [the DM's name], his only goal in life is to screw up and die horribly. So my friend trolls him for the next few days, making every character just give him stuff because he looks like a god. Eventually, he let the character die, but not after giving Throwaway Character a gigantic chest that had the engraving 'Happy Birthday!' on it.

I wouldn't quite call him a troll, rather just a mistaken individual with a deep hatred for bronies and furries.
The same Principe still applies though. You Must Counter-Troll Him using Logic and common sense. If that doesn't work, state that you will no longer feed him and quit.

From My point of view, he won twice.

I don't think that's necessary. It's entirely possible - plausible, in fact, MUST BE TRUE - that the Blueblood line gained their title through exaltation in the Moon wars. Both Leo and Blueblood II were potential Solars. Except Leo is, in fact, a solar, while Blueblood II is not.

1- Luna. I don't 'create a beautiful night', but I put HUGE amounts of effort into being as honest, trustworthy and dependable as possible. When a friend implies my opinion is invalid because of personal bias, or thinks I'd lie to them (either to hurt or spare their feelings) it's like taking a sledgehammer to the last 15 years of my life. And I've done some horrible things in frustration, and anger, and jealousy, because of it.

2- oh gosh. I don't even know, how could I choose 0.0 um. Bon-Bon. Fanon-wise, I've built her up into a pretty cool pony, and so has all the fiction I've read.

3- mayor Mare. What makes her hot stuff? She's all smug.

4- Princess Celestia. Poor gal has both the worst life and the best attitude this show will ever have.

5- Rainbow Dash. We'd be buds. I get a very definite 'let's crack a beer and relax' vibe from her. But since Equestria doesn't have beer, I don't have to feel bad about refusing! :D

6- Pinkie Pie for most useful. She can do everything nopony else could do, whereas all the other problems, anypony could solve.

See, the problem for Exalted is that it uses the WoD system, which is designed for average kinda people. And the Exalted bit is structured like an optional template to add on the top of that like the rest of the WoD splats, like Vampire and Mage.

And this is a comprehensively terrible problem.

Exalted's mechanics fail at achieving the effect they're aiming for in the same way that you probably shouldn't use a Ferrari to bulldoze a house. The essentially same core mechanic as applied to the WoD runs like a dream.

aye, I know. When I talk about the mechanics, I'm only referring to what I would have read up to character generation, and a little beyond. For example, that having a 1 compassion and a 5 compassion would be a flaw no matter which you picked? Beautiful. There is no 'I win' button there. There is a Character, a person, who makes mistakes. Who will be conflicted. And even if it never comes up mechanically, i find it nice to have those scales on paper.

Further in, the dice pool mechanic always seemed nice to me. The only downside is that, after so many sessions, two characters who started out differently (a military marksman and a college professor, say) would end up with the same firearms skill eventually. Without emphasis, specialization, or the like, the marksman has nowhere to graduate to if that's his thing. Theoretically, racial charms (or whatever you call them in other games) could fix this, but then the school teacher whines that he can't be as good as the natural-born, specially trained sniper...

Keep in mind though, I've never played world of darkness. I made a character for Werewolf: the Appocalypse (oWoD right?) that ne'er came through. So I don't have a feel for anything, only book learnin'.

I struggle to this day with when violence is and is no acceptable, morally, ethically, legally and emotionally. Heaven knows I've almost made the wrong decision, and I can micromanage myself. Can't micromanage children.

Multispell (su): all of Siuis' spells up to 9th level are automatically quickened. He can cast 6 total quickened spells per round without penalty, in addition to his other actions.

ArchMage qualities: as the most powerful spellcaster of his generation, Siuis has several benefits which others cannot fathom;
-Siuis adds his total hitdice to his caster level
-Siuis adds his intelligence bonus as a perfection bonus to his usual spellcasting ability score
-Siuis has no maximum cap on any spell whose effect increases with level
-wish spells cast by Siuis conform to his intent rather than the exact wording
-Siuis is entitled to an opposed caster level check when any of his items or effects are dispelled, disjoined, or subject to antimagic effects

Or until successfully hit Siuis), hypnotism as an (ex) ability (standard action, single target, and HD cap 48), ignore spell failure chance of 35% or less, can craft fey items (function as mithril or adamantine, requires *ten times longer than normal to craft, at double DC)
Siuis has bardic spellcasting, bardic knowledge and bardic music of a level equal to his fey hitdice.*

Gloamingfey qualities: as master of magic on Faerie, Siuis is akin to a god (though only a lesser power when not within his own realm) and can achieve amazing feats of arcanistry;

- Siuis adds an innate bonus to spellcraft checks equal to his fey hitdice (currently 20).*

I don't think that's necessary. It's entirely possible - plausible, in fact, MUST BE TRUE - that the Blueblood line gained their title through exaltation in the Moon wars. Both Leo and Blueblood II were potential Solars. Except Leo is, in fact, a solar, while Blueblood II is not.

aye, I know. When I talk about the mechanics, I'm only referring to what I would have read up to character generation, and a little beyond. For example, that having a 1 compassion and a 5 compassion would be a flaw no matter which you picked? Beautiful. There is no 'I win' button there. There is a Character, a person, who makes mistakes. Who will be conflicted. And even if it never comes up mechanically, i find it nice to have those scales on paper.

In my theoretical magical well-made Exalted system, the virtues are the core mechanic instead of an optional add on.

In fact, one time one of the developers said "Fighting a sentient, evil planet-sized city is a little bit outside the scope of the system". At first, I laughed. And then I stopped. And then I realised that a sentient, evil planet-sized city is one of the primary antagonists of the setting and if the system doesn't support fighting that guy then the system is borked. Likewise the mass combat system balanced around professional armies of mortals fighting professional armies of mortals. In Exalted, a war without supernatural craziness is the exception.

Further in, the dice pool mechanic always seemed nice to me. The only downside is that, after so many sessions, two characters who started out differently (a military marksman and a college professor, say) would end up with the same firearms skill eventually. Without emphasis, specialization, or the like, the marksman has nowhere to graduate to if that's his thing. Theoretically, racial charms (or whatever you call them in other games) could fix this, but then the school teacher whines that he can't be as good as the natural-born, specially trained sniper...

Keep in mind though, I've never played world of darkness. I made a character for Werewolf: the Appocalypse (oWoD right?) that ne'er came through. So I don't have a feel for anything, only book learnin'.

I don't understand this? Sure, the Twilight putting 5 dots into Archery will be as good at Archery as the 5 dot Dawn caste sniper, but Charms fundamentally change that dynamic. Specialisation is really infinite within each area.

In terms of the WoD, skills are so expensive so a 0-Firearms professor will take 45 XP (9 sessions) to become as good at sniping as the elite military sniper, during which time he's not practising magic or anything else. Seems reasonably prohibitive.

More to the point though, are the mechanics. The glamour wears away, and the guy who still thinks yellowbelt punching kata 3 is where it's at stays at yellowbelt. The guy who realizes all the kata are the same punch, and who 'masters' the basics climbs the ranks. Breathing. Presence. Control. Awareness. Poise. Everything else are just trappings to keep us rebellious youth interested long enough to get hooked.

Exactly. The difference between bending your knee and keeping it straight is the difference between a master and a newbie.

Charger's awkwardness stems from needing to explain things that don't need to be explained, which increases embarrassment which also increases word complexity, which sort of spirals in on itself until the romance has put it's hat back on and caught the bus.

@Phantomfox: I've read your story and it's currently percolating. I'll have thoughts to you tomorrow, but the main thing I'd look at right now is voice. Make sure the voices of your characters are consistent, I seem to remember thinking that a lot.

Hey, thanks! You reminded me of what one of my super tabs was.

1: I have this strange problem. It is only a problem because I like communication and full disclosure with other people.
That problem is, in my mind, there are colors, sounds, shapes and textures that don't exist. Especially sounds. There are dozens of words that I pronounce internally in some form of Master Tongue, that I just can't manage in English so I follow somepony else's example. For example, 'lichemaster' or 'lichegate'. The first five letters are all one consonant, combining a non-phlegmatic "hcgh" like you'd hear in Klingon, and the welsh double L. I don't have enough tongues or throats to make that work.

So it is with pictures. Unless I see a drawing in my head, which happens, I have nebulous yet concrete ideas of things. So any picture of Charger is going to look off next to my mutable and nigh-formless idea. I can only say how close it is, except for the rare instance where something gets it 101% right.

So far, the only thing that has EVER done that is mead. Honey wine.

What, while doing techniques? No tension ever. Your arms and legs should only be straight in the instant when you punch and kick, not before and not after (exception: wrists should always be straight).
