You enter Belelen Plaza in the Mage's Quarter. There is a magic shop selling various items of power on one side, while the rest of it appears to be residential, or at least as residential as a large collection of spellcasters gets.

bobthe6th
2011-09-06, 11:17 AM
Jedidiah starts looking for a master of conjuration his master said lived in the quarter.
you want me to make up a random name, or would you care to.

planswalker
2011-09-13, 03:10 PM
taking over due to him having to take over one of mine. howdy. You may make up your own name. that's fine with me. If you can make it sound to be of germanic origin, it will fit better into the naming scheme of the city. You might want to do a gather information check.

despite being unskilled at such things, Jebidia asks around for the conjurition master Gregory Minviada

check no rankes so a straight charisma check

He locates his shop at the corner of Jeneschal and Hordun.

bobthe6th
2011-09-13, 10:50 PM
Jebidia walks up to the door entrance or what have you and does the polite and appropriate action. knocking on the door/ pulling the bell pull/ ect.

planswalker
2011-09-14, 10:21 PM
The shop appears to be open to the public, and upon entering, he is greeted by the sight of a well-dressed man with horn-rimmed glasses standing behind a glass counter.

Various tokens and trinkets lie unlabeled behind glass cases all throughout the modest-sized room.

"Ah, can I help you, sir?" The man behind the counter asks politely.

bobthe6th
2011-09-15, 12:03 PM
"I am Jedidiah Faust, sent by my master (hmm... lets make him actually rather Germanic) Wilhelm von Hileburg (my apologies to the German people for so mangling there culture but there you go) to study with the master conjuror Gregory Minviada." show signet ring (useful item there)

planswalker
2011-09-19, 02:59 PM
"Ah, Will sends me an apprentice? How is the old man doing?"

bobthe6th
2011-09-19, 04:54 PM
"Ah, you are the Master, a pleasure to meet you sir." *slight bow, about 20 degrees* "He is fine, fine. He is whole and hale, despite his best efforts. The drink will get him one of these days, I fear." "But he feared his knowledge in conjuration was to limited, and thought you could educate me in that great art?"

planswalker
2011-09-19, 06:26 PM
"Aye, I can. Why should I?"

bobthe6th
2011-09-19, 06:48 PM
"friendship with my mentor? an extra hand to help complete work? smaller business you would not normally accept, but as a lowly apprentice I would happily complete? your kinder nature, assisting a student of little talent to make something of his power?"

rather blatant flattery there.

planswalker
2011-09-19, 10:27 PM
"How about the usual apprenticeship fee?"

bobthe6th
2011-09-19, 11:32 PM
"the usual?"

can I use house funds for any things like this? poor aristocrats is diffrent from poor.

planswalker
2011-09-19, 11:51 PM
"Of course. 300 gold and you are voluntarily placing yourself under my service."

hm... you could always ask...

bobthe6th
2011-09-20, 12:13 AM
"then I would happily pay it."
Jedidiah extricates 30 platinum pieces from the large pack on his disk and hands them to the mage.

wewh, was just thinking if it was 1000gp or something.

planswalker
2011-09-20, 12:19 AM
"It'll take me a day to draw up the proper paperwork. Come back tomorrow morning at dawn.

bobthe6th
2011-09-20, 12:22 AM
"you know were a good inn is? sleeping on the street does not appeal to me."

planswalker
2011-09-20, 12:26 AM
"The easterly crow at the end of the block serves an excellent wine with their roast ham."

bobthe6th
2011-09-20, 12:37 AM
"to the easterly crow then. good day sir." walking to the easterly crow at speed.

if he dosn't get mugged in the night will be un impressed

planswalker
2011-09-20, 01:15 AM
He arrives at the entrance to a beautiful inn with exquisite craftsmanship in the wood. The gilt lettered sign proclaims this to be the Easterly Crow, finest inn in the Quarter.

At the door, a warforged with gems highlighting silver tracery on his mithril body says, "Hello, chap. You here for a room?"

bobthe6th
2011-09-20, 09:45 PM
"yes my good it, does this fine establishment have a room that I might rent?"

planswalker
2011-09-22, 04:02 PM
"Indeed, 2 gold a night."

bobthe6th
2011-09-22, 04:49 PM
Jebidiah smiles "you have yourself a deal! meals are included?"

aristocrat wizard, he dosn't really realize he just spent 2 months wages for many people. going to play him like that for now

planswalker
2011-09-24, 09:08 AM
that's standard pricing for this style of living in this district. He's not being particularly scalped if he wants something so nice.

"Of course sir. We are not some filthy tavern unable to find fresh linens."

bobthe6th
2011-09-26, 03:23 PM
Produceing the gold, jebidia pays the it.

planswalker
2011-09-26, 11:02 PM
"Prompt payment up front. Very respectable sir. Please do come inside. I am afraid that I cannot take your gold however. You will have to speak to the proprietor."

bobthe6th
2011-09-26, 11:48 PM
"ah my apologies, I had you were it. could you grant me acces to this fine persons attention?"

as warforged are unsexed exept in their personal thoughts, is the pronoun it proper? was making it a point to be polite.

planswalker
2011-09-26, 11:50 PM
they use gendered pronouns and have gender personalities even thought they do not in fact have physical male/female differences.

"Head on inside and ask for Chogan."

bobthe6th
2011-09-27, 12:10 AM
doing as the war forged asks, Jedidiah advances to the main room

planswalker
2011-09-27, 12:13 AM
The interior of the inn is quite crowded. People are coming and going all over the rather large entry room. Patrons of any possible description abound, most content to sip the wines in their hands. No one bothers to turn their head when yet another patron walks in. The atmosphere of the place is slightly fancy and posh. Understated elegance seems to be the word.

bobthe6th
2011-09-27, 11:47 PM
walking up to the bar, or baring there being no bar, to any sort of waiteresqu person. "I was told to speak to Chogan about a room?"

planswalker
2011-09-28, 10:37 PM
"You'll find Mundoo in the back." the waitress says, pointing off towards a nicely decorated door.

bobthe6th
2011-09-28, 10:47 PM
"Mundoo?" with a quizzical look at the waitress

planswalker
2011-09-28, 11:35 PM
"Yeah, Chogan Mundoo."

bobthe6th
2011-09-29, 12:17 AM
Jebidia goes to the door and knocks

planswalker
2011-09-30, 07:08 PM
The waitress notices you knocking and says, "Just go through."

bobthe6th
2011-09-30, 09:16 PM
Jebidia steps through the door.

planswalker
2011-09-30, 09:21 PM
You spot a kenku (http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/13333975/images/1293689840945.jpg) in dull gray robes chanting and dancing around a pentagram.

"Just a moment."

bobthe6th
2011-09-30, 09:37 PM
Jebidia politely waits as the bird thing finishes its dance, looking for any arcane significance.

knowledge arcana check [roll0]
I think thats his modifier, not sure though.

planswalker
2011-09-30, 10:00 PM
It has no arcane significance. It's a show to try and scare onlookers.

"Very well. Now then, you want a room. Third floor work with you?"

bobthe6th
2011-09-30, 10:04 PM
"stairs or ladder? it probably will."

planswalker
2011-10-01, 10:42 PM
"You'll slip on the third step tomorrow morning, but you'll be fine. It will work with you indeed. You're about to pay in cash."

bobthe6th
2011-10-02, 08:50 PM
"Well you were correct in one facit at least, I will pay in cash. and because of that prediction I think I will be less nervous on the stairs."
pay the creature in gold, Jebidia awaits directions to the room.

planswalker
2011-10-03, 11:23 PM
"Third floor. Second door to your right. When you open the wrong door at first, I recommend closing the door and hurrying to your door. If you go fast enough, that baron won't get a chance to take a look at you and get you arrested. He's really overreacting."

bobthe6th
2011-10-03, 11:47 PM
"wait, you told me I will open the wrong... oh heck with it, its to late for temporal problems!"
Jebidia goes to the third floor, trying to find the second one on the right... he accidentally opens the first on the right, accidentally counting a broom closet as a room.

planswalker
2011-10-03, 11:54 PM
In fact, you are so preoccupied with counting doors that you open the second door to your left and spy a bare, hairy bottom that seems to belong to a fat man. A girlish squeal can be heard within, although the source is not immediately obvious.

bobthe6th
2011-10-04, 12:10 AM
Jedidiah luckly remebers the advice and quickly shuts the door. he hurries away, hoping to find the proper door quickly.

be sure to update your character sheet with your spell selections.

You hear angry shouting, but manage to shut your door before anyone seems to spot you.

bobthe6th
2011-10-04, 12:24 AM
hopping the door on the other side of the hall is the right door, Jedidiah tries to open it.

planswalker
2011-10-04, 12:34 AM
His key opens the door (which was locked) and he enters before the opposite door opens.

bobthe6th
2011-10-04, 12:40 AM
Jedidiah quickly shuts the door and examines the room.

planswalker
2011-10-04, 12:43 AM
There are fresh linens and well-polished furniture in the room. A complimentary tray of fruits is sitting on the nightstand.

bobthe6th
2011-10-05, 11:12 PM
if nothing else intervenes, Jedidiah eats some fruit and goes to sleep...

planswalker
2011-10-06, 10:00 PM
His sleep is restful.

bobthe6th
2011-10-06, 10:07 PM
8 hours later baring any problems, Jedidiah stretches and studies his spell book, gathering his energies for the day. (prepares same spells as yesterday.)

planswalker
2011-10-06, 10:27 PM
His preparations are preparatory.

bobthe6th
2011-10-06, 10:42 PM
activating his talisman to carry his stuff, Jedidiah leaves his room and goes to find out about breakfast.

planswalker
2011-10-09, 06:45 PM
Breakfast at the inn he's staying at will be 1 silver but includes two eggs cooked to order and a slice of roasted ham and a small loaf of bread.

bobthe6th
2011-10-09, 08:15 PM
he enjoys his breakfast, pays, and goes to his prospective masters shop...

planswalker
2011-10-29, 03:07 PM
Just as the bird said, as you were stepping out of the inn, you slip on the third step and fall. However, since there are only three steps leading down from the inn, your fall is quite harmless if slightly embarrassing.

When you arrive back at the shop, your new prospective master has the contract laid out for you.

"If you find these terms satisfactory..."

very sorry about this. On my list, showed me as the last one to update. Don't know how that happened. thanks for prodding me.

bobthe6th
2011-10-29, 09:14 PM
ooc:this need a profession: barrister check? or is it a straight int check? could see it as a wis check... or is this an actual written out contract?

planswalker
2011-10-29, 10:15 PM
this is a written out contract. If you suspect him of foul play, a wis check. If you think he's like most people and honest, you don't need to bother.

bobthe6th
2011-10-29, 10:59 PM

planswalker
2011-10-29, 11:10 PM
Best you can tell, it is exactly what it says it is. No extraordinary loopholes or such. There is one bit tacked on the end about needle mines should they ever become functional, but the meaning is lost in legalize.

bobthe6th
2011-11-09, 08:03 PM
Jedidiah signs the agreement, and hands over the 100 gp

planswalker

He smiles. "very good. Now, your first task as apprentice is to clean my workshop."

bobthe6th
2011-11-09, 08:36 PM
"Magic or no magic? summoned minions and prestidigitation?"

planswalker
2011-11-11, 10:50 PM
"No magic. The purpose is for you to learn what the tools of the trade look like and how to handle them without breaking them. That, and save me a spell for something you can't get an apprentice to do."

bobthe6th
2011-11-12, 12:59 AM
"fair enough..." despite his misgivings about paying a man so that he himself could do manual labor, Jedidiah goes about the labor as directed. To stay his ego, Jedidiah remembers that the advancement of his own learning is reliant upon staying in this mans good graces. his uncle had long since broken his will to resist silly training exercises. that one with the box and the cat was rather absurd, but it had tought several valuable lessons about the nature of divination...

planswalker
2011-11-29, 12:04 PM
I'm afraid that I'll be having to drop you as a pc of mine, seeing as I've just gotten too burned out to continue. The two week wait is unfair to you in the extreme. If you still want to play, I will see about getting another dm to take you on.

bobthe6th
2011-11-29, 12:42 PM
that would be nice, would like to see this charicter go on to greater things...

Jeriah
2011-12-22, 11:17 PM
Alright, I've skimmed through your thread and got the gist of what's going on.It takes you [roll0] hours to finish cleaning the workshop to your new employer's satisfaction.

"That's all for today. Be quicker about it next time, and you might have time to learn something useful."

bobthe6th
2011-12-22, 11:51 PM
sweet a DM!

quickly casting and cleaning his hands with prestidigitation
"If you manege to reach the same level of mess in one night... you may beat out my old masters record. about a week between total order and chaos. same time tomorrow?"

Jeriah

"Yes. Be here on time or don't bother coming back."

bobthe6th
2011-12-23, 12:11 PM
"as you well know, a wizard is always on time..." with that Jedidiah exits quickly from the building. as it is now early afternoon, he decides he should go out and see the city. returning to the Inn he deposits his things taking a all his alchemical items and his spell components pouch, pays for another night, and goes out to explore the quarter.

Jeriah
2011-12-23, 03:05 PM
Wandering around the Mages' Quarter, you find that it is fairly devoid of public businesses. The vast majority of the buildings are private residences. You eventually enter Belelen Plaza in the Mage's Quarter. There is a magic shop selling various items of power on one side, while the rest of it appears to be residential, or at least as residential as a large collection of spellcasters gets.

bobthe6th
2011-12-23, 03:10 PM
Jedidiah wanders into the shop, looking about to see if there is anything of interest, or anyone of interest for that matter.

Jeriah
2011-12-23, 03:11 PM
You enter Lloyd's Laudable Lavishments, the premier magic item shop in the city. A quick glance around at the small selection of items under glass displays, the golden scroll work and embellishments on the white marble walls, and the deep, plush red carpet as you enter all indicate that the items here are likely well outside of your price range.

bobthe6th
2011-12-23, 03:22 PM
The thought of money reminds Jedidiah. He should probably find some kind of work, as his master is unlikely to pay him. He wanders back to the inn, and asks around after work for a wizard...

Jeriah
2011-12-24, 12:28 AM
The warforged at the front door answers your question. "Sorry, we're not hiring."

bobthe6th
2011-12-24, 12:34 AM
Jedidiah goes to mix with the people in the common room.

Jeriah
2011-12-24, 12:46 PM
There's very little "mixing" going on. Most are contentedly reading alone or sitting in very small groups. It seems that this particular establishment is more of a relaxing area than a social one.

bobthe6th
2011-12-24, 05:07 PM
Guess I have to make it the old fashion way... well I brought the lab with me for a reason.

Jedidiah goes to his room, and collects 6pp, 10gp, 20sp, and 20cp. he then goes out in search of an alchemical shop.

Jeriah
2011-12-25, 02:09 PM
He quickly finds a place named Apothecary Jordain.

bobthe6th
2011-12-25, 02:58 PM
Jedidiah enters the store.

Jeriah
2011-12-25, 06:04 PM
He is in the store. The walls are covered with shelves of tightly sealed canisters with labels on each. There is no one else here.

bobthe6th
2011-12-25, 10:51 PM
Jedidiah starts looking around for the chemicals to make sun rods.
I'm sure sunrods would have a market here. must ask master if there is any good buyer around here...

Jeriah
2011-12-26, 02:37 AM
A quick glance around tells you that the shop stocks neither gold nor iron necessary for a sunrod's construction, but you are fairly certain that the other reagents are available.

Jeriah
2011-12-30, 03:16 AM
Nudge.....

bobthe6th
2011-12-30, 01:20 PM
Jedidiah gathers what he needs from the shelves(20gp in alchemical supplies for sunrods) and looks about to find the regents to make a tinder twig.

Jeriah
2011-12-30, 06:44 PM
He finds them rather easily...

bobthe6th
2011-12-30, 07:08 PM
he gathers 40gp in that form of regent. he then approaches the counter to purchase them.

Jeriah
2011-12-30, 08:04 PM
There is still no one at the counter or in sight anywhere in the store.

bobthe6th
2011-12-30, 08:15 PM
Jedidiah still walks up to the counter, and looks around for some form of bell by which to summon the shop keeper.

Jeriah
2011-12-30, 08:17 PM
Except for an ornate device with numbered levers on it, a box of individually wrapped candies, and a merchant's scale, there is nothing on the counter.

bobthe6th
2011-12-30, 08:23 PM
Jedidiah sets down his findings and starts looking about for any place the Merchant might be hiding. taking 20 on a search gives him 23.

Jeriah
2011-12-30, 08:35 PM
There is no back room, no other doors, and the inside of the building appears to be the same size as the outside. You simply can't find anyone here.

bobthe6th
2011-12-30, 08:43 PM
This is a rather odd way to run a business...

Jedidiah leaves his selection on the counter, except for one cp in regents. he then exits the building. if nothing stops him, he returns and repeats the process with a growing quantity of regents(one sp, one gp, ten gp, the full order). if nothing has happened then, he returns his order to the table and goes to the guard.

Jeriah
2011-12-30, 08:56 PM
Nothing happens.

He finds a guard.

bobthe6th
2011-12-30, 09:04 PM
"sir I suspect a kidnapping has happened. I just visited the 'Apothecary Jordain'. I have never visited it in the past, but I entered and went about finding some alchemicals I needed for the creation of sunrods and tinder twigs. there was no shopkeeper at the counter, no note denoting that the proprietor was out, and the door was unlocked. I searched the shop, and made sure the shop had no automated payment system.

unless the proprietor chose for some odd reason to let all his goods go for naught, I suspect some low skulduggery was involved."

Jeriah
2011-12-30, 11:44 PM
"Alright, let's go check it out."

bobthe6th
2011-12-31, 12:24 AM
*walk*

"well this is the place..."

Jeriah
2011-12-31, 01:11 AM
The guard enters, motioning you to wait outside. A moment later, he exits.

"I see no signs of struggle, and the only items disturbed are in a pile on the counter. Perhaps he simply forgot to lock up when he stepped out?"

bobthe6th
2011-12-31, 01:29 AM
"With a fortune in alchemicals on the walls? in the mid-afternoon? seems odd... but you are probably correct. I guess I will wait for his return so I can make my purchase."

Jeriah
2011-12-31, 02:14 AM
"No, no. I'll be staying here to guard it until we discover what's going on. You be on your way. This is a potential crime, even if it is unlikely, and I can't have you meddling."

bobthe6th
2011-12-31, 02:19 AM
"I would rather like to find the answer to this mystery... would you let me search the room for magic at least? I am a fairly competent wizard if I might say so myself. Taken without a struggle reeks of magic."

Jeriah
2011-12-31, 02:08 PM
"I'm sorry, but this is Watch business now. I'm going to have to ask you not to interfere. The best way to help is to go to the nearest Watch post and file a report on the incident."

bobthe6th
2011-12-31, 02:14 PM
"fine... would you mind directing me there?"

Jeriah
2011-12-31, 02:31 PM
"Of course. The building right next to where you found me is the local post. You should be able to find it without too much difficulty. Johann should be there and will help with the paperwork."Sorry, I'm really not trying to be difficult... I'm just DMing it the way the Watch works.

On another note, would you be willing to critique the home brew in my sig?

bobthe6th
2011-12-31, 02:46 PM
nah I understand. If Jedidiah had any real standing in the city(like say if he were an established wizard, or from a more powerful noble house) he would be throwing his weight around. but as a recent immigrant to the city, and an apprentice, he doesn't have real power.

also, pokeing through the classes...

*walk...walk...walk*
knocks on post door.

Jeriah
2011-12-31, 03:23 PM
The post is little more than a shelter to get out of the rain. Johann, however, is standing in the shade provided by the building. As you approach, he looks up.

"May I help you?"

bobthe6th
2011-12-31, 03:33 PM
"I suppose you can. I am here to file a 'report of an incident'."

Jeriah
2011-12-31, 03:46 PM
"Okay then. What seems to be the problem?"

bobthe6th
2011-12-31, 03:52 PM
"I suspect a kidnapping has happened. I visited the 'Apothecary Jordain'. I went and informed the watch that was standing there, and he came with me to investigate. he searched and found no signs of a struggle. he had me leave him guarding the place, and sent me to file an incident report."

Jeriah
2011-12-31, 04:00 PM
"Let's get some paperwork filed out for you."

He hands you s piece of paper with several blanks on it and a large space for writing. It asks your name, place of residence, citizenship status, and any other contact information. The large space is for you writing in any details about the incident you wish to report.

Jedidiah returns to the Inn, stopping at the warforged in the entrence hall. "Does the Inn have anything against alchemical crafting in its rooms?"

Jeriah
2011-12-31, 10:17 PM
Gorman is standing outside the front door of the inn.

"Not unless you break, burn, melt, explode, or otherwise ruin something."

bobthe6th
2011-12-31, 10:28 PM
"Fine fine!"
Jedidiah walks up to his room and deposits his purcheses in his room.

Jeriah
2011-12-31, 10:34 PM
His purchases are deposited.

bobthe6th
2011-12-31, 11:02 PM
Jedidiah wanders down for a late lunch.

Jeriah
2012-01-01, 12:47 AM
His lunch is so late by this time that it's dinner. The sun has set, and the common room is full of the same kind of quiet, studious people from before. In fact, you would swear that some of them are the same people as before and still reading the same books.

bobthe6th
2012-01-01, 01:08 AM
*nom nom nom*

after finishing his dinner, Jedidiah wanders back up to his room for another nights rest.

Jeriah
2012-01-01, 01:56 AM
He sleeps.

bobthe6th
2012-01-01, 02:11 AM
*snooz*
later that morning...
Jedidiah prepares his spells for the day
0level: Detect magicx2, Ghost sounds, Arcane mark, Prestidigitation, catlethrops

2level: Summon monster IIx3, Summon undead II, Summon swarm, Melfs acid arrows

then walks down for breakfast.

Jeriah
2012-01-01, 02:27 AM
You are paying for these meals, right?

bobthe6th
2012-01-01, 02:31 AM
I didn't think of it. silver apiece right?

Jeriah
2012-01-01, 02:50 AM
Yes. 1sp each meal.

Edit: Did you take a look at the homebrew?Your breakfast is filling.

bobthe6th
2012-01-01, 02:54 AM
its about 5pages of text... it may take a bit. from what I've seen you cleaned up the paladin nicely, But I was never sure of the main complaints around them anyways. the hex blade is more antipaladin-ish, and thats as far as I got.

Jedidiah goes to his masters shop for another day of grind.

Jeriah
2012-01-01, 03:22 AM
Mr. Minviada is standing there watching a clock on the wall as you enter.

"Another 20 seconds, and you would have been late."

bobthe6th
2012-01-01, 03:51 AM
"Guess I should go out and wait for another 19..."

Jeriah
2012-01-01, 04:45 AM
He does not look amused.

"Get to work."

bobthe6th
2012-01-01, 01:02 PM
"Yes Master."

Jedidiah goes about whatever task is at hand.

Jeriah
2012-01-01, 03:42 PM
He is once again set to the task of cleaning the workspace, but this time, he is specifically told to not clean the tools. It takes you [roll0] hours to complete the labor.

bobthe6th
2012-01-01, 03:49 PM
"well that was exiting!"

casts prestidigitation to clean himself.

"same time tomorrow? also, do you know of a merchant that buys alchemicals?"

Jeriah
2012-01-01, 03:51 PM
"yes.

There are several who will. Just look around, probably South Market is your best bet."

bobthe6th
2012-01-01, 03:57 PM
"Well see you on the marrow!"
Jedidiah exits the building, and starts walking to the Inn.

Jeriah
2012-01-01, 04:07 PM
You hear him grumble something on your way out, but you don't manage to catch what he actually said.

Gorman greets you on your return.

bobthe6th
2012-01-01, 04:17 PM
Jedidiah walks into the dinning hall for lunch.

Jeriah
2012-01-01, 04:24 PM
Eight hours from the time you left, they're serving dinner.

bobthe6th
2012-01-01, 04:43 PM
what a great diet, two meals a day will work wonders...
*nom nom nom*
pays a silver.
goes to his rest.

Jeriah
2012-01-01, 04:51 PM
He rests successfully.

bobthe6th
2012-01-01, 05:00 PM
and round we go again.
spells, breakfast, walk to masters shop.

Jeriah
2012-01-01, 05:09 PM
What is it that you're wanting to do with this character? I'm not sure what it is you expect...

bobthe6th
2012-01-01, 05:25 PM
well... he was going to learn conjuration, and at some point get dragged into planer affairs I was hoping... or just dragged into a general plot line. But as this is a sandbox I probably need to start the plot don't I... hmm... really, I was planing on doing a whole planer wizard thingumabob...

Jeriah
2012-01-01, 05:29 PM
Planar wizard thing? I'm not sure I understand...

bobthe6th
2012-01-01, 05:35 PM
well... plane hoping around, meeting and greeting planers, making contracts for planer binding... but as those spells are levels away, I was thinking the master was going to start making his apprentice go get exotic regents for spells, find rare artifacts, assist him in summoning, and other such things...

Jeriah
2012-01-01, 05:39 PM
Ah, plane hopping is a little beyond the scope of AVB. We pretty much try to stay on the material plane and within or just outside this one city. The master is busy working on something this morning. As you enter the door, he throws a small bag at you.

"There's a list. Go get everything on it."

He goes back to work, ignoring you.

bobthe6th
2012-01-01, 05:42 PM
then I guess he will be stuck at summoning random planers. still will be fun.

"ok then..."
Jedidiah reads the list as he exits the building.

Jeriah
2012-01-01, 05:57 PM
The bag contains 50gp and a list of various reagents written in an arcane script, requiring either Knowledge (arcana) or Decipher Script to understand.

bobthe6th
2012-01-01, 06:00 PM
Jedidiah has max ranks in both so... He quickly studies the list, recalling from his studies the names of the regents. he also recalls his accidental lessons in reading terrible hand writing, his uncle never had gotten the hang of writing in common...

Jeriah
2012-01-01, 06:01 PM
He'll still need to roll a skill check.

bobthe6th
2012-01-01, 06:13 PM
oop, miss read.
knowledge
[roll0]
DS
[roll1]
a 16 and a nat 20.... think that might do it?

Jeriah
2012-01-01, 06:50 PM
17 mandrake roots
5 roots of ginsing
4 executioner's caps
1 stone's weight grave dust
3 whole blood moss

bobthe6th
2012-01-01, 07:13 PM
"hmm... bet the apothicary would carry some of that, or know were to find it."
Jedidiah goes to the Apothicary Jordan

Jeriah
2012-01-01, 07:59 PM
The door is barred with a note from the Watch indicating that it is closed until further notice.

bobthe6th
2012-01-01, 08:24 PM
odd...

Jedidiah goes to the other apothecary.

Jeriah
2012-01-01, 09:17 PM
He easily finds another apothecary.

bobthe6th
2012-01-01, 09:27 PM
*walks through door*
*goes up to counter*
"excuse me, but do you happen to have any mandrake or ginsing root, executioner's caps, or blood moss at this establishment. if not would you no were to find some?"

question... due to knowledge of the arcane, and some skill in crafting alchemicals would Jedidiah know if grave dust meant dust from graves, or a form of herb?

Jeriah
2012-01-01, 09:49 PM
The man looks at you and blinks.

"Ginseng I have. It's a common medicinal herb.

The mandrake, well, that's not so common. Too many side effects with that one, so I don't normally carry it... but I can get it, for the right price.

We don't carry such poisonous mushrooms as the executioner's cap.

Blood moss, well, you're not likely to find that in any shop. It has to be harvested fresh and used within two or three hours, or it's no good."

bobthe6th
2012-01-01, 10:03 PM
what will the master be doing with poison...

" first the legitimate, what are you selling ginising at? I need five roots...
secondly the favor, do you happen to know were to find blood moss? I have need of it as a magical urgent...
*whisper*and lastly the less legitimate, what would it take to get mandrake root?*whisper*

Jeriah
2012-01-02, 02:52 AM
"You don't have to whisper. The ginseng I can sell you for 2 copper total. The mandrake will be 1gp per root. As to the bloodmoss, it grows only in shaded areas where blood has been spilled, or so the story goes..."

bobthe6th
2012-01-02, 12:18 PM
"Well then, I need 17 mandrake roots, those ginsing, and do you happen to have 'grave dust'?"

Jeriah
2012-01-02, 06:42 PM
"Can't say that I do..."

He provides you with the items and takes your coin.

bobthe6th
2012-01-02, 06:47 PM
now to find a poisoner... and a grave yard...and a slaughter house

Jedidiah now searches for a graveyard...

Jeriah
2012-01-02, 07:11 PM
It turns out that Aldhaven has no graveyards. After serious trouble with necromancers about fifty years ago, a city ordinance was passed requiring the cremation of the dead and the banning of all undead within city limits.

bobthe6th
2012-01-02, 07:18 PM
Jedidiah walks to the docks... theres gotta be some spilled blood or a poison merchant around there.

Jeriah
2012-01-02, 07:46 PM
It's currently about 11am. The gate closes and locks at 6:30 and will not open again until after sunrise.

He is now in the docks, just outside of the gate on the north side of the river.

bobthe6th
2012-01-02, 07:51 PM
oh shiz oh shiz its not night its not night its not night, won't die instantly yet...

Jedidiah walks down the main lane, looking for anyone shady, or a recent murder site... additionally checking for anyone following him.

Jeriah
2012-01-03, 03:59 AM
He immediately sees three mean looking hobgoblins sizing him up, probably wondering how good he would taste.

bobthe6th
2012-01-03, 06:21 PM
gathering his will(and a vial of alchimests fire in one hand, ready action to throw if the charge.) he approaches the group.

"greetings gentlemen, I was wondering if you knew of any recent blood shed? um I mean... oh Damn, that was a bit awkward. do you know of any local disused slaughterhouses?"

Jeriah
2012-01-03, 07:17 PM
"Yeah, yours."

The draw weapons and start to approach you.

Roll initiative.

bobthe6th
2012-01-03, 08:02 PM
[roll0]
(note the readied action with the fire...)

If Jedidiah wins the initiative he takes a five foot step back, and summons a celestial dire badger between him and his asalents.

Jeriah
2012-01-03, 11:07 PM
He loses initiative. Two of the three circle around him, taking up flanking positions, while the third takes a moment to pour some sort of oil onto his weapon.

Your turn.

bobthe6th
2012-01-04, 08:06 AM
Free action: 5ft step back.
Ful round action:cast SMIII, summon celestial dire badger.

Jeriah
2012-01-04, 08:47 AM
You begin summoning the dire badger.

The leader charges you, hitting you with his longsword.
You take [roll0] damage and must make a Fort Save.

The other two move to attack you with their knives. One hits, but the other misses. You take [roll1] damage.

You must make two Concentration checks to maintain casting the spell.

bobthe6th
2012-01-04, 11:32 AM
oop, forgot. Jedidiah casts summoning spells as a standard action(cost him his familliar(UA Conjuror veriant, rapid summon))...

Jeriah
2012-01-04, 04:24 PM
Then where do you summon it, and does the dire badger do anything during your turn?

bobthe6th
2012-01-04, 06:23 PM
standing in front, redied action to claw any foe that enters melee range.

Jeriah
2012-01-04, 09:13 PM
Then the events happen as previously indicated, except that the animal gets its readied attack, and you don't have to make concentration checks. I still need that Fort save though.

bobthe6th
2012-01-04, 10:41 PM

If Jedidiah doesn't die from the failed fort, move action back, and summon another dire badger in the way of his foes.

bobthe6th
2012-01-04, 10:53 PM
and oop, if the caster is still alive the first badger gets a full attack on the leader, starting with a smit evil...

and the new badger prepares an action to smite the first foe to enter range.

and aoos as needed
[roll14]
[roll15]

[roll16]
[roll17]
and the dice gods hate me... dam the Jedidiah has 3HP left...

Jeriah
2012-01-05, 03:25 AM
Jedidiah feels his muscles seize up as the poison invades his system. He takes [roll0] Dex damage and is poisoned.

The badger's readied attack hits, but his AoO does not.

Jedidiah is now in melee with his foes. If he doesn't make a Concentration check, they get AoOs from his casting.

Smite only applies to one attack in the round.

bobthe6th
2012-01-05, 08:24 AM
Oop:edited that out of the title of all but the first, forgot to get it out of the damage line...
He staggers back5ft and let's off a cone of acid.(acid breath)

Jeriah
2012-01-05, 04:01 PM
Why are you taking another turn? It's still their turn. I was asking for a Concentration check to see if they got AoOs before they attacked. I haven't even told you the results of what happened on your last turn.

bobthe6th
2012-01-05, 05:00 PM
Oh... I thought the five ft step put him out of reach...
Then I think there was a check in the last post, snd here is another
[roll0]

bobthe6th
2012-01-05, 05:01 PM
Mind if I point out this just would mean the spell fizzles, not a free aoo?

Jeriah
2012-01-05, 06:35 PM
I don't know if you understand what's going on...

{table]Round 1|They surround you
|You summon a badger
|
Round 2|They charge you
|The badger attacks
|You try to summon a second badger
|
Round 3|It's currently the hobgoblin's turn, but they have not yet acted[/table]

The concentration check is for the attempt to defensively summon a second badger. All the actions you posted after that have no effect, because it's not your turn.

bobthe6th
2012-01-05, 06:47 PM
yes. that is the situation.

I believed they had taken a smiler turn as the last... but was incorrect. I currently await their nex turn...

Jeriah
2012-01-05, 07:37 PM
You fail to summon a second badger, though the one you do have summoned manages to seriously injure the leader.

The three attack you again. One of the lackeys misses, but the leader and the other underling manage to hit you. You take [roll0] from the leader's longsword and [roll1] from the underling's dagger.

bobthe6th
2012-01-05, 07:40 PM
and -11 is reached....

very very very dead...

Jeriah
2012-01-05, 08:07 PM
Sorry about that...

bobthe6th
2012-01-05, 08:18 PM
eh... time to roll up a fighter, with less silly HP. I mean 17 was sad...

Jeriah
2012-01-05, 08:20 PM
Well, go back to the recruitment thread for that.

bobthe6th
2012-01-05, 08:24 PM
