I'm moving my campaign to skype, and the first online session is tomorrow. (we've been having the things in meatspace so far, but college has put paid to that.) I think I can handle everything except the tactical nature of combat. I'd prefer to not have to describe movement in terms of "The zombie moves to tile B7" or attacks as " the archon creates an icy burst centred on tile G4". I don't think good old fashioned graphpaper will work over the webcam, much as I'd prefer it. Has anyone found something like this? Google gets me a lot of stuff I have to print out, and that's not helpful.

MapTool (http://www.rptools.net/index.php?page=maptool) is a pretty easy-to-use system to make use of, at least on a basic level. The other tools on that site are also useful for various things as well. I'm not sure what it takes to set up a server (I've not done it myself) but I'm given to understand that that isn't difficult, either, and if you can't manage it, well, there's always the "take a screenshot, post it to ImageShack or somesuch, and send out an image link" option.

Maptools is the obvious solution, but if you can't be bothered with the downloading and server set up, sharing a spreadsheet in googledocs is a crude but workable option.

If you do use Maptool, just make sure everyone downloads the same version.

As mentioned above, Maptools is also great for creating and uploading images of the battlemap which are updated over the course of a combat.

There's a map of the internet for you.

Yeah, that's how I read the title, too.

That map is strategic, not tactical.

Well, he did want the whole internet. It'd be hard to put the whole thing in tactical scale.
