I don't know where it got into my head to want to play as a blind charicter, but it's there. So I was sondering, are there ways to do so while still being a resonably capable charicter?

If it helps, I'm planning on playing a Bat-themed Druid. If going the (Pf) Bat Shaman route (and really, why would I be doing this if I wasn't) I actually get Blindsight out to 20 feet for 2 minates/level and Blind-Fight for free (not that Blind-FIght would really help a spellcaster much).
Any thoughts?

For a character to be "effectively blind" would IMO entail that you do not try to amend his/her disability. With cure blindness/deafness being readily available it makes little sense for someone to wish to remain blind in the first place.

Still if you remain blind (for which ever reason), even if you do get feats/abilities such as blindsense and scent you will still have to deal with mischances etc. due to your affliction. All things considered I would recommend against this particular idea.

Well, be a Druid and take the Blindsight feat (prereq: need to be able to wildshape into a dire bat; benefit: gain 120' blindsight).

Or buy a Blindfold of True Darkness. I don't remember where it is but it's pretty cheap.

Edit: Oh yeah, and when a newish DM allowed "Blind" as a flaw, I quickly proved why that was a bad idea by casting Remove Blindess/Deafness on the character at the beginning of the game. She had eyes, they just didn't work, so the spell worked. Otherwise I would have had to use Regenerate, which one almost never gets the chance to do anyway unless DMs houserule called shot type things.

I let a player be a blind monk with no penalties besides they had to dump a feat in blind-fight; very low optimization game, but he got to roleplay the blind master (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/HandicappedBadass) trope.

WARNING: TV Tropes.

Grimlock (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/grimlock.htm) Divine Minion (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/mb/20050209a), Master of Many Forms. Note that you retain your special qualities when you Wild Shape, which would include Blindsight.
