View Full Version : Classes that give Skill Focus as class ability?

Does anyone know any classes that give Skill Focus as a class ability so I don't have to take it as a feat? preferably at first lvl, factotum5/chameleon10 has 5 lvls left at the end of the build to play around with and the game's not hard enough to need the extra 3 factotum for cunning surge, so I was thinking of taking a 1+ lvl dip in exemplar for free skill mastery since my character's int based.

the only ones I can think of are malconvoker (bluff) and invisible blade (bluff) but those are wrong for the build and too feat heavy and not good for the build anyway.

the actual skill is irrelevant as far as exemplar's concerned, but a good one would obviously be preferable.

Marshall gives Skill Focus (Diplomacy)

Healer (Minatures Handbook) gives Skill Focus (Heal) as a bonus feat. Truenamer gives knowledge focus, which you might be able to convince your DM to let count as skill focus. That's all that's coming to mind.

One level of Marshal is probably your best bet, but two levels of Dragon Shaman can get you Skill Focus in any of the following skills:

Appraise
Bluff
Disguise
Gather Information
Heal
Hide
Jump
Move Silently
Spellcraft
Survival
Swim

excellent! just what I needed. this site never fails to impress, every possible answer in 40 minutes.

I had honestly forgotten that marshall gave skill focus (diplomacy) I for some reason thought it just added its cha bonus to diplomacy again (I was probably confusing that for its aura)

for a 1 lvl dip, what's the best minor aura? I figure the dex one since it helps with initiative checks.

I'm thinking human paragon 3/marshal 1/exemplar 1

Master Specialist gives Spellcraft as well. Not that you qualify...

How are you taking exemplar before lelel 11?

Legendary Captain 1 (Stormwrack) gives you a Skill Focus, but you have to already have Great Captain.

How are you taking exemplar before lelel 11?
He's not; those are his last 5 levels.

Ah, thanks for pointing that out, I completely missed it.

Yes, those are my last 5 lvls, sorry for the confusion, it'd be human paragon 16-18/marshal 19/exemplar 20

Afraid I'd need profession sailor 8, knowledge geography 7, and leadership too. (I am already captain of a ship though) my dm, like most, doesn't allow leadership, so definitely in another game, just not this one. thanks for the tip though, I'd never even heard of that class, it sounds awesome and sounds like it'd provide pretty decent synergy with dread pirate

for a 1 lvl dip, what's the best minor aura? I figure the dex one since it helps with initiative checks.

Dex, Int, Wis and Cha all have strong arguments for them, depending on your focused skills, but generically, Dex is probably strongest, with Cha being the 2nd most awesome if you've got the strong Cha to turn your social skills into +yes.
