So, I'm thinking about trying my hand at creating my own avatar. What site should I use, especially if I want to make completely new one? Any tips would be appreciated.

Here, try Trazoi's Guide. (http://www.trazoi.net/tutorials/inkscape/oots/)

Follow it through to the end once, and try making your own avatars afterwards. You'll need Inkscape. (http://inkscape.org/)

Seems Legit. Thank you so much.

It is THE legit guide. For Inkscape anyway.

So, to what site should I upload my avatar, to bring it to here? Would plain photobucket work?

Photobucket's what I use, and I suspect what a lot of the other avatarists around here use as well. I think some people use Imageshack, too.

Deviantart is also fairly common, especially if you may delve into other areas of fantasy art.

Okay, so I got everything all set. Its on Photobucket, uploaded and looking good. However, I'm running into problems getting it onto here, though. It ends in .png, so what am I doing wrong?

Nevermind that last one. I figured that part out. How do I shrink it down to size? As you can see, Its a little bit to big. :P

When you export the avatar from Inkscape you can choose the image size in the export window. Make it no more than about 120px high or wide and it should be fine (I assume it's about 120, it's been a while since I checked!)

You can also open up your image in another editor like GIMP and shrink it down that way, but it's probably quickest to do in within Inkscape.

I have done all these things, and thank you by the way, they were very helpful to me as well, but now when I upload my image to photobucket, Photobucket itself makes the image bigger, so when I link it to my avatar image, all you can see is the head, like right now. Help!! :smallfrown:

Edit: Nevermind, I got it working. Thanks for all the pre help anyway, I love using Inkscape, it is AWESOME!!!
