Been meaning to learn how to use it properly for a while, I finally had a decent effort at it this weekend.

Would really like some constructive feedback.

Finally going to put my nice camera to good use. :D

(why the mood to finally go out and make good use of all this hits me right when its the worst weather to go out and take photos is beyond me, lol)

I see you're suffering from Filters Syndrome. While filters can be very useful when combined in various ways (to quickly generate textures, for instance), they are usually not a great idea to use on anything at all. A simple Image>Auto Tone, Auto Color, Auto Contrast will set most photos close enough to passable, and Levels (or Curves, if you're of that persuasion) can do the rest.

looks nice considering you're just getting into it.
short of classes, one of the best ways to get a feel for it is to start turning stuff up to 11

Hehe, yeah. Mostly just doing the filters to see what they do then posting the ones I like.

I also spent a little while crudely swapping the faces on family photos, but I'm not to post them on pain of death apparently.

A more subtle one here of my dad (http://phishf00d.deviantart.com/gallery/?catpath=scraps#/d4ce12i)

One thing I need to beware of is I have a tenancy to over-saturate the photos, whenever I do photos at work I nearly always bung em into MS picture manager and do +10 saturation. At least PS saturation seems more subtle, and I've seen a tutorial on "dynamic" saturation which I want to play with.

The Fairhaven Lake one is a good example of abusing the saturation, I was just amazed at how much colour I could get out of what looked almost like a B&W photo.
