View Full Version : Charger questions

Right now I don't plan on making an ubercharger with my character, because that'll make DMs cry. What I wanna do is replicate Giga Drill Breaker as a finishing move against hurt/dying enemies, or as a desperation move in case we're about to die.

The character in question is my Warblade/Crusader gestalt (let's not go into debate on how unoptimal this dual choice is, just roll with me here), so I have a stance that will boost my charge damage. I can also take advantage of Smite and Steely Resolve for more bonus damage.

So here's my plan: I'd have a spiral drill shaped lance for the drill with at the very least a crystal of least Return so I can replicate the speed of drawing a drill out, and take one level on one of my Gestalt sides into the Wrath Domain of Cleric so I can get Rhino's Charge.

My questions now are which charger feat should I choose, given my two class choices:
1. Leap Attack or Shocktrooper? (I don't want to grab both feats because that'll set off red alarms in my DM's head of an ubercharger, and that's something I don't want to happen)
2. Are there MIC items that can also give bonuses to charge attacks or make it easier to charge?

1. Leap Attack to avoid red flags. Shock Trooper takes all the risk out of PA, with Leap Attack it's still a game of risk and reward.

Nitpick:

One of those is a theoretical attempt to use a mount and Leap Attack with Pounce, while applying the benefits to every attack made that round. The other is a commonly used glass cannon.

Please learn the difference.

Halberd of Vaulting (Arms & Equipment Guide 109) + Battle Jump.

Halberd of Vaulting (Arms & Equipment Guide 109) + Battle Jump.

So how would this pan out, assuming I'm understanding multipliers correctly?

Rhino's Charge (2x) + Halberd Drill of Vaulting (2x) + Battle Jump (2x) = 4x my charge damage?

Yes, if you can make a 40 Jump check with a running start (to activate Battle Jump against a Medium creature).

If you're an orc add Headlong Rush ( Orc only feat, double damage on charge, http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20030301a )

Valorous weapon enchantment; double damage on a charge, a few levels in cavalier or frenzied berserker make those charges/power attacks go further too

Unapproachable East, I believe.

Wow the sourcebook looks old, like 3.0 old. O_o

However, being a +1 weapon enchantment means it'll be incredibly easy to get, instead of paying over 20k gold for a Drill of Vaulting (meaning I won't see such a weapon until at least mid to high level). I'll see if the DM will be fine with such a weapon enchantment.

Not Raptorian. Raptoran. Why does everybody make that mistake?

Neraphim get +5 racial and can catch their foes flat-footed for free 1/encounter with a charge.

Not everyone is an English native speaker. Why does anyone forget that?

Power Attack Optimization (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?p=7165087)
Pounce and Free Movement (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=103358)

Those should give you all the various methods of optimizing your Charge damage to whatever level you feel is appropriate. Also, remember that Shock Trooper requires (and dramatically improves) Improved Bull Rush. So if you only want to spend one additional Feat optimizing your damage output, then go with Leap Attack.

Though I would argue that a Warblade//Crusader will get tons of damage options from your maneuvers, and should instead focus on various battlefield control combos (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=127026) instead. Decide whether or not you want to keep enemies away from you (Fear effects, Shock Trooper/Bull Rush, smart tactical movement) or keep enemies locked within your reach but not adjacent to you (Thicket of Blades, Stand Still, Mage Slayer, Dazing Strike maneuver, Knock-Down, having a big size/reach, etc). Which direction you should go in depends heavily on your personal play style and attributes.

While not arguing with you, I think Annulus is nitpicking a bit too much, Raptoran isn't an english word. How would being an english speaker help :smallconfused:

When Races of Destiny first came out and people started using raptoran in various builds, I assumed that they were Jurassic Park velociraptor dinosaur humanoids (saurons?), and not bird people. It's easy to mess up and confuse such things. So whatever.

Hmm, so you think due to my two classes and the maneuvers I can grab, trying to optimize charge damage may be a moot point/effort?
