View Full Version : Bardbarian feats?

Though it kills me grammar sense to say it that-a-way, I am rolling up a "bard/barbarian" or "bardbarian" (shudder) just in case my fairly easy-to-murder duskblade gets murdered in the upcoming nearly-end-of-the-campaign skirmishing and such.

So, I've been fairly lucky, rolling with stats with the little guy (human btw) and I've come up with a fairly typical guisarme-tripper warrior (although I'm gonna call it a "harpoon" cuz this particular skald is also a sailor) with the good old setup: Combat Expertise, Combat Reflexes, Improved Trip. But he's a Level 9 human which nets him one more feat. I was thinking either Power Attack, Extra Rage or Throw Anything (getting the harpoon enhanced to be a returning number...)

Speaking of numbers: Level 9 Human Male Bard/Barbarian, 17 y/o:
STR 16, DEX 14, CON 16, INT 13, WIS 12, CHA 15
Bard 1/Barbarian 2/Bard 2/Barbarian 1/Bard 3

Anyway, my question to you fine fellows and fellowessess (and thanks in advance, my seldom unhelpful compatriots) is what feat would you select to complete this guy as is for now, and maybe what would be good for him down the road. Equipment I also haven't planned much out either. Thoughts?

How about Snowflake Wardance feat from Frostburn to give you more melee striking ability that can possibly stack with that of rage?... have to be using one or more one-handed or light melee slashing weapons though.

I would also think about one of the following combo:

Troll Blooded as your first level only feat (Dragon 319 61) for Regeneration 1 (fire/acid) combined with the Heavy Legs construct graft (FoE 158) to ignore fatigue (Troll Blooded causes you to be fatigued when you are in sunlight).

You can get improved trip by trading out some of your barbarian class features. See here:
http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/variantCharacterClasses.htm#wolfTotemClassFeatures

Note that you don't need combat expertise and can dump your int.

I prefer this rage variant on my barbarians:
http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/classFeatureVariants.htm#rageVariantWhirlingFrenzy

Combined with reckless rage from races of stone:
http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20040807a&page=5

Your rage gets you +6 str, +2 con, and an extra attack at your full BAB (albeit with a -2 on all attacks that round).

As for feats on a barbarian:
knockdown, found here:
http://www.d20srd.org/srd/divine/divineAbilitiesFeats.htm#knockDown

Power Attack is a great way to turn extra to hit into damage. Cleave technically procs off knockdown, but even if that's too cheesy, it's still quite handy to have. Extra Rage is awesome. Song of the Heart increases benefits of bard music by +1.

For bardic music optimization:
A masterwork horn (natural or metal) gives +2 attack & damage, no morale bonuses. From 3.0 source, song & silence.
Song of the Heart increases attack & damage by +1
Inspirational Boost (spell from spell compendium) gives +1 on attack & damage
The exalted feat words of creation, from book of exalted deeds, DOUBLES all those bonuses. Requires you to be goody two-shoes, though.

There are also a couple items that can help you out.
