I need ideas for a Shield like character for a tough "Kick-in-the-door" campaign...if not a shield character than a trap-seeking character.

What do you mean by "shield character?" A frontliner/tank?

You have good stats, what books are available? Is this for 3.5 or Pathfinder?

Yeah, I meant shield as in a tank, it's for 3.5 and no 3rd party books. It's for the world's largest dungeon. I tried using a rogue last time and he didn't last too long. My downfall was no ranks in escape artist, which would have helped me greatly. The tank idea may not help me any better, but I'm more used to playing straight up fighter, whether two handed weapons, weapon and shield or two weapon fighter. The rogue was gonna be my second choice so I could try and find traps again, but I require the knowledge of being more crafty and/or strategic which compared to two others in the group I am not.

If you have access to every 1st-party book you have way better options than fighter and rogue. Is ToB allowed? Incarnum? Psionics? ToM?
