so, i was perusing through the book of exalted deeds and noticed something. the Apostle of Peace. the class requires you to have the vow of poverty feat to qualify for it, but under weapon and armor proficiency it says:

"as part of their vows, apostles of peace foreswear the use of armor, though they may use magic items that protect them (such as a ring of protection or bracers of armor)."

Did they overlook the fact that you can't own anything of monetary value, or is this a special feature of the apostle of peace?

Well you can do lots of things if you want it does not mean that they are good ideas to do.

Most people consider it to be an error and that the items would break your vow. However other people think that it's a pseudo-class feature that allows them to have magic items.

Many other people think the error is that Vow of Poverty should not actually be a requirement for Apostle of Peace.

Waiving "Vow of Poverty" entirely is feasible, but allowing defensive magic items on top of it without breaking the vow is {a} not raw-legal even with the funky wording, and {b} just plain borked. One of the only things VoP gives you in decent quantity is static bonuses to AC; stacking that on top of defensive magic items gets kind of ridiculous, especially since VoNV and VoPe give their own defensive advantages already.

Just don't do it. Unless it's supposed to be a comedy game, in which case have fun!

Actually the highest bonus VoP grants to AC is an armor bonus that doesn't stack with Braces of Armor. And it also grants a +2 deflection bonus to AC (IIRC, AFB on the exact value) which wouldn't stack with Ring of Deflection.
