My DM just told me he has made a Sorcerer Variant called Chaos Witch. The class is as Follows:

PF Sorcerer's Class Features except I do not have spells known, per day, or a defined spell list. Instead, when I choose to cast a spell, I have to roll a d10 to determine what chart I cast from. The spells range from 0-9 within the tables. From there, I roll a d% to decide what spell I get. On a 01, I move one chart down, on a 100, I move up one table and add a random metamagic feat, determined with a d12. So in simple English, I am at the mercy of the dice.

I want to test this out, and the fluff alone is SWEET! I also plan on taking Wild Mage from Complete Arcane, mostly just for giggles (and to watch my DM's reaction as I roll to determine what my spell is)

My question is: What Race? And Please, not Human (I'm Sick of Human)

Go for something weird if you're bored, like a Fetchling or a Merfolk.

If the name is Chaos Witch... then go Drow, worshippers of Lloth, goddess of Chaos.

I mean... it's a role-playing choice, and a number of people here can probably give you a better class/race combo than that, but if you build a female and remember to praise Lloth in everything you do, maybe you can get a blessing from her, if She decides you are both wicked and chaotic enough.

A DM once called divine intervention for a PC in 4e, a Paladin who always prayed for Pelor's blessing before going into any conflict, even if it cost him his turn in the initiative.

One time, during a particularly long petition to his god (with long-winded prose riddled with flourishes and embellishments) for how to deal with a Bullywug we'd just captured, Pelor's radiance shone down upon his bound enemy and smote it to dust... making our choice on what to do with the hapless creature all-too-abundantly clear.

The DM rules that sort of stuff... but good role-playing goes a long way to influencing that, and Drow are notoriously overzealous to Lloth, and Lloth stays pretty intimately involved in the intrigue and designs of her children.

Fetchling? Wassat?

And if you are male, it's called Chaos Warlock. Gender Neutral, Let's just call it a Chaos Invoker

So they are essentially Shadar-Kai?

I guess? Can't say I know much about Shadar-Kai. Or anything, actually.

Shadar-kai in 3.5 are shadow fey from the Plane of Shadows. They look like humans, but have drow-like abilities (namely, darkness-based)

Oh. Alright then.
. . .
Carry on.

I'm looking for a race that if it isn't pathfinder is a 1la race (DM said 1 LA = Pathfinder Friendly) or can easily be "pathfinderized"

first of ll i think the class is bad, really bad... there are far more spells out there that are useless to you than there are useful in any given situation. and the entire power of casters is using the correct spell for the right purpose. most chances you'll be having useless spells 5/6 of the time, unless the DM intentional fills the table with usefull and versatile spells. check it out. (jump spell? create water? erase? breath water?)

once you know whcih spell you have, MUST you cast it? i think some situations might make it problematic.

that said, it could be quite fun, and suddenly casting high level spells at such a low level could be cool.

i'd personally go with halfling- bonus to cha, and dex is always helpful, and small size is good for casters. i think i mentioned to you on another thread a gypsy halfling- you could play yourself being "Cursed" by the fates (perhaps for daring them too far?) and thus you magic has turned unpredictable, dangerous, at times rewarding, at times punishing. of course, that doesn't mean you have to stop daring the fates... it only means things got interesting :smallamused:

Here's how it works: I cast the spell. Random rolls happen, then I cast whatever the random roll is. Some are "classic" useful spells, some are homebrew, and some are useless unless used abusively. The rolls determine the spell as it is being cast. It's not "crap. I rolled Detect Thoughts." It's "Hope this works!"

I had a backstory planned: He made a Witch/Divine Oracle/Pale Master angry when he challenged her to a spell fight. He lost when she hexxed him so he was at "the will of the Wheel of Fate." Ever since then, he has been trying to reconsile.
Secretly, the Witch was Lady Luck (the Faerunian deity) who saw he was becoming power-hungry, so she saw fit to "punish" him by reminding him that luck still was the greatest power. He doesn't know this.
