... and I would like to know which one I should get, so I seek the Playground for assistance. I like the Nook, but my heart isn't set on it, so tell me something good.

...What does it mean if even after all these years, this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_e-Reader) is what first pops into mind with that term?

Seconded.

I don't know... I have a Power Glove. And a Power Pad. And a Super Scope 6.

I mean, I think the biggest thing in ebook reader devices comes down to where you like to buy your books. So, Browse the libraries (http://www.barnesandnoble.com/u/NOOK-Book-eBook-store/379003094) of the competition (http://www.amazon.com/gp/browse/ref=_1_lnk1?ie=UTF8&node=1286228011&pf_rd_p=1319771142&pf_rd_s=center-40-0&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B0051QVESA&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1AMA43DJYXDYZP1769TD) and see which device has the better selection of your favorite books. Wouldn't hurt to stop in at your local library to see if they have anything for either, too.

Other things you might want to think about is whether you want a black and white screen or a color screen (which boils down to battery life or fancy stuff), and whether you want to manipulate your books via touching the screen or by pressing buttons.

You have a Power Glove? I think I just fell in love with you.

On topic... I have a Kindle 3 and it works great. I had a problem about a month ago where I was quite rough with a bag that it was in so the screen stopped working. I used Amazon's online live chat and they sent me a new one, free of charge that arrived at my house 3 days later (BTW it was still in warranty). Personally, just from my experience with Amazon customer service, I would go with them, they are simply incredible. As for specs, neither one of the two big ones (kindle or nook) is superior, so go with either, it'll be a good choice. Though if you're planning on getting a kindle, it might be a good idea to wait until November 21st, they're releasing a touchscreen version for 100$ (if you get the ad version) then.

I absolutely love my Nook Simpletouch, it's been wonderful to me. I got it because it was tiny and light, not as elongated as a Kindle, and I do like the touch screen. The Kindle Touch that just came out is cheaper though. If I were still in the market for an e-reader, I'd probably give that one a close look.
The Kindle's biggest problem is it doesn't allow you to get e-books from libraries, or anywhere that's not Amazon's library. The Nook lets you do that. The Kindle does have a very limited browser that will let you access recipe websites, which allows my sister to use it as a cookbook. If you don't have wifi, you'll want an option with 3G, which means either Kindle or Nook Color. The Kindle Touch doesn't have 3G yet.
Oh, and if you want an e-reader for PDFs of technical books or gaming manuals, I'd get the Kindle DX. It has a large screen which makes it excellent for that type of thing.

Depends on the library (http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?docId=1000718231), it seems.

They actually very recently added the ability to take books out of libraries. I haven't used that feature yet, I've got too many books already on my kindle for me to need to go out to get more, but I've heard good things.

Do NOT buy a Kobo. They tend to be $20-30 less than other brands, for good reason. The battery life is subpar at best, and the interface is very clunky.

Kobo was Borders' attempt at having an e-reader, and look what happened to them. Too little too late. I'm very glad I went with a more expensive option.
Glad to hear Kindle has library lending! That Nook salesgirl at B&N is going to have to change her pitch. :smalltongue: As much as I love my Nook, I might get a Kindle when it breaks. Advantage to going in this direction, if Kindle allows e-pub now (which it must because you can get library books) then I can move all my B&N books to it!
