Asterisks in thread titles

Every thread title has asterisks between the words when looking at the subforum thread lists, for me at least.

Any idea what's causing it & how to get rid of it?

Someone did something very dodgy earlier and is lucky he avoided an instant ban. I'm still trying to clean up the mess.
