Hey,

I'm a newbie, just wondering what the difference is between non-lethal and lethal damage, and when each would be used.

Thanks.

Non-lethal damage doesn't kill; merely knocks people unconscious at best. Lethal damage kills. And a ton of things (constructs, undead, etc.) are immune to non-lethal damage. Immunity to lethal damage is exceedingly rare (though not entirely inexistent). For reference (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/combat/injuryandDeath.htm#nonlethalDamage).
