In the bestiary, bite attacks deal piercing, slashing and bludgeoning damage. But for the purposes of critical hits (with a critical hit deck) what kind does it do? Ordinarily I'd assume piercing, but I want to make sure.

It does all three on crits as well. There are no real rules in D&D itself for handling those decks. If you're lucky maybe the deck has its own rules for handling multiple damage types.

I guess you could go with random cards?

We're doing Pathfinder, I forgot to mention, but thanks. I think I should assume piercing because it's more obvious with fangs.. o_o

Nope, it does all 3. Piercing is you biting down, slashing is you tearing and bludgeoning is the sheer bite force.

Wait, I thought bite attacks just did piercing damage, and that all natural weapons had crit stats of 20/x2. Or is this a Pathfinder specific thing?

Bites have always been BSP attacks, and natural attacks are infrequently given larger than 20/x2 threats.

My group has been playing it where we draw one card and then take the effect we prefer.

Bites do all 3 types of damage in both 3.5 (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/specialAbilities.htm#bite) and PF. (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/rules-for-monsters/universal-monster-rules#TOC-Natural-Attacks)

What's the language on the crit card? What are the rules for critting with a morning star?

Bite is a Dark-Type move! But in your edition I think it might still be Normal.

Herbivores would theoreticall only do Bludgeoning on their bite. There arent many in DnD but several dinosaurs were herbivores IIRC.

Incisors are almost certainly slashing (take rabbits for example.) If narrow enough they could be piercing too.

Several birds are herbivores as well - attacking with their beaks counts as a "bite" in D&D (as there is no attack called "peck") and would do all three types.
