My DM is letting me use the UA domain specialist on a beguiler. What domain should I pick? I'm tempted to get Cold, Storm, or Fire, for the damage. We're starting at level 1, and I'll be lucky if the game lasts more than 5 levels. So polymorph, shapechange, gate aren't going to see any play.

I'd advise against storm domain: beguilers can already cast obscuring mist, and gust of wind isn't that great a spell (Mostly it's good to prepare just once in case the situation comes up where it will be useful) so it doesn't really pay off until lvl 6 when you get access to lightning bolt.

Cold domain also isn't too great: beguilers want to stay out of melee, and the first two spells are touch spells while the third level spell is an area control, and beguilers already have a few area control spell.

I'd go for either fire or evocation domain. The downside of fire domain is that you only get one damage type, while evocation domain gets you three, but flaming sphere is slightly worse than scorching ray.

At lvl 3 or 4 you can get gloves of the starry sky, for 1100gp, which glow on command and basically add magic missile to your spell list, but only castable 3 times per day.

Focusing on fire isn't so bad. Dip into Sandstorm and you can roast fire elementals.

Chill Metal is a close range spell. Sleet Storm is basically grease on steroids. But Scorching Ray and Fireball are fun.
