I adore the Sneak Attack Fighter for just this purpose. Full Base Attack bonus + Sneak Attack means you will hit often and hard.

What I love about Sneak Attack Fighter is the simplicity. You got a newbie in a middling optimisation game who wants to play a dashing swordsmen? Combine with Thug for goodly damage and mobility much that feels like a swashbuckler, much more than Duellist anyway, but with more durability than a Rogue, so more room for mistakes.

If you're willing to lie to said newbie about where his stuff is coming from, drawing up a 'homebrew' class that's really just Scout 3/Cleric 1/Ranger 16 makes for a fairly good way of doing it, and will be better than utilizing sneak attack most of the time.
