in Venezuela (http://newsfeed.time.com/2011/10/12/silent-treatment-mimes-enforce-traffic-laws-in-venezuela/). Odd. I would expect that putting people in traffic that I desperately want to run over as a public service wouldn't be the way to enforce the rules. But what do I know?

Respectfully,

Brian P.

I... well... um... ok then?

I... am honestly unclear as to how this works. I mean, in this country, putting mimes on street corners would lead to MORE accidents, as people stopped to converse with/look at the mimes, which would lead to breaking traffic laws, leading to more frantic miming, leading to more people wondering what the damn deal is with the mimes, etc.

What transcendent genius had the idea to put mimes on street corners, anyways? Can you imagine that meeting?

"We need to get traffic violations down, and cops aren't cutting it. Ideas?"
"Mimes?"
"...BRILLIANT!"

We can't do that. What if there's actually someone trapped in an invisible box? How are we to tell the two apart?

I have to say I prefer those crosses that show where there have been lethal road accidents. :smallsigh:

If you like this sort of thing, I recommend listening to "Wait Wait, Don't Tell Me," the comedic NPR News Game Show. They broke this story a couple weeks back and they do similarly interesting/silly tales all the time.

I'm just wondering, when you first saw the thread's title, did you for a split second see it as "Mines as Traffic police"?:smallwink::smallbiggrin:

A genius plan. Clearly they must expand it though, it hasn't gone far enough. They need to add mimes to the regular police force. Homicide detectives. Everything.

Crime will be rendered...speechless. :smallcool:

It actually makes a lick of sense, though.

You have, as a traffic director, someone well-versed in grabbing attention from onlookers, conveying intentthrough body language, and used o not screaming in frustration when people ignore them.

Just... Just don't actually put them in mime costume and we'll be fine.

As a part time mine, I support my brothers in law enforcement endeavors.

True story, I used the lasso move to keep an old lady from running over my friend. That lady was a notoriously bad driver.

It's the intimidation factor. Would you be scared out of your pants?

And don't get me started on clowns.

Mimes as traffic police? What's next? Jugglers as life guards? Clowns as security guards?:smallwink:

Are You Afraid of the Dark? :smallconfused:

I saw it as a kid, but I don't remember that many an episode. I re-call the werewolf episode and the one in which a boy gets trapped in a video game.

You are not alone in that regard.
