View Full Version : Did I Hear This Right? Cat in the Hat goes Eldritch

Had The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That on in the background while eating breakfast this morning. It featured the cat taking the kids on a trip to the bottom of the ocean. One of the characters they met was a baby angler fish.

Now, I only caught the fish’s name once. But it sounded like they called him O’R'lyeh—A pun on the prison of Cthulu.

Way to go, Cat.

That...is quite an esoteric reference on a kid's show.

Bah, it was probably named O'reily. Perhaps it was an irish angler?

If Dr. Seuss wrote The Call of Cthulhu:

Considering the rate of geeky mashups and remakes lately, an Eldritch version of Dr. Seuss wouldn't surprise me.

Man, that would sell like hotcakes at the college I RP at. They are both very fond of the Cthulu mythos there (at least the geek crowd) as well Dr. Seuss having a particularly special place at that college (the library is even named after him).

A parody is already being made. That cover linked above was real.

Here is the thing (http://drfaustusau.deviantart.com/art/The-Call-of-Cthulhu-Cover-260811086). 31 pages exist so far.

I'm holding my judgement until I see it in dead tree form

There's already a few eldritch parodies of children's books out there. I particularly enjoy "Where the Deep Ones Are" and "The Antarctic Express".

The original cover painting for The Shadow Out of Time always looked like it could've been from a children's book to me.

The Ken Hite ones? He also has "Cliffourd the Big Red God".

(Though I don't think "Where the Deep Ones Are" would actually have required much changing.)

Why does that look like that one shapeshifter from Futurama that tried to marry Leela and a bunch of other beings?

That's what that was a reference to.

Hm, Cthulu or Irish Fishing Magazine… (http://www.facebook.com/Irishangler) Tough choice.

Ooh, I think I know which college you're talking about! :smalltongue: And even though I don't go there, I'd love to see this too.
