Shield/Runic Guardians & some of the Homunculi from Eberron scaled up with the Improved Homunculus feat from Magic of Eberron seem to be a standard for Horde-based Artificers.
The absolute best constructs are warforged because levels, though.

Unless there's a way to craft them, that's kinda off topic.

Shadesteel Golems are my favorite general purpose constructs.
Medium size before advancement, perfect flight speed, Immunity to Magic, a decent negative energy attack as a free action every few rounds, and concealment at any time it's not in full daylight.
Have one carry/be equipped with a Greater Shadow Evocation Continual Flame spell and it can always act as if hasted while also healing 8 points of damage per round.

Sure there is!
- Craft a construct
- PAO to Warforged
- Thumb your nose at Cannith
- Profit

Theoretical optimization(that which doesn't belong at a gaming table) is probably off-topic too, honestly.
Besides, you don't need the crafting part in there to do PAO shenanigans.
