Hello everyone and welcome to an epic journey that will probably eat up far too much of my spare time. But then my therapist says I should be doing things no matter what they are to stay active, so I assure you its purely for medical reasons.

I've been meaning to take the nuzlocke challenge for a while but have failed on account of not having an audience, which is where you all come in. In return for keeping me honest you'll get to vote on names and personalities for any pokemon I catch although as the writer I reserve the right to stretch things out to fit the story I am trying to tell.

In contrast to Illven's nuzlocke adventures I shall be keeping the pokemon world relatively nightmare fuel free. Not that there is anything wrong with nightmare fuel, only that I'm not as good at it and I don't need you all judging me. :smalltongue:

So without further ado let us join our hero Cal on his adventure into this brave new world!

That was how I met professor Birch. A nice guy, even if prone to being melodramatic on occasion. It was thanks to him that I was able to set out on my own and take on the pokemon league. But I'm getting ahead of myself. My name is Cal, and I'm the fifth champion of the Hoenn region. And this is, as best as I can remember the story of my time in Hoenn.
My dad had gotten offered a position as a gym leader in Petalburg so we were moving all the way from Violet City to Littleroot Town. At the time I was pretty bummed out about the move. I had been begging my parents to let me take on the johto league like my dad did when he was younger. I remember my dad said to me that anybody could win if they were determinned enough, but if we moved to Hoenn I'd get to challenge him myself, and the day I could beat him would be the day he'd start to think of me as champion material. And so it was with mixed emotions that I arrived in Littleroot. I was sixteen years old.

Yeah, right in the middle of the year too. My dad says I don't have to worry about school this year and that if I needed any help your dad had already volunteered to help out.
Oh thats cool. I've been homeschooled for ages. Its not a very big town and the nearest school is in Rustboro. Its okay though because I get to go on all sorts of amazing trips with my dad all around the world and help with his research.

The zigzagoon didn't look particularly threatening but the poor guy looked like he had been running for a long time. If I had known how fateful the next moment would be I would have taken a second to thank the universe but as it was I grabbed the first pokeball I could reach and released-

What are your rules? Are they just the standard two nuzlocke rules?

I go with a Mudkip just because it has the best typing for dealing with gymleaders.

Name Swampy. Personality Loyal and Kind always ready to talk if you need it.

Yes standard nuzlocke rules. I can only catch one pokemon per route and any pokemon who faints is removed from the game.

Edit: As for the item rule. I'm unsure. I guess we'll see how things go, as this is my first attempt and I haven't played a pokemon game in a while I may decide I need the help but for now we'll leave things as they are.

Hmm… As this is my first attempt, I'm going to say yes. Purely because I like variety in pokemon I have available to me.

And yeah I know, I timed it that way. But thats not to say there aren't a lot that have been attempted. (enjoyed most of them immensely)

Hey! I just wanted to say that I'll be reading this (was interested in Ilven's as well, but didn't feel like posting.) That said, I don't want you to feel disheartened from doing this, so I'll be keeping up and commenting.

As for my vote, I choose Swampert, more out of personal taste and association than anything else. Personality wise... make him somewhat broody and melancholy, befitting is name of Bogmire. :smalltongue:

Well it looks like you and I are gonna be together for quite some time… so… Welcome to the team Swampy… of one but we'll change that eventually. I hope we'll be the best of friends okay?

At that she jumped on my chest and slammed me into the ground before heading straight for the water. I lay there for a few moments then burst out laughing. I didn't stop for five minutes, although that was probably the sleep deprivation from the move. So I grabbed my pokeball, recalled my new best friend and went to go look for May.

Just remember that due to the environmental protection act, trainers are only allowed to catch one pokemon per route, and are not permitted to catch pokemon they have already caught.
Why is that?
As you know we humans live alongside pokemon. But in an increasingly modernized world it has become harder to keep pokemon populations stable in their natural habitats. So there are pretty strict regulations on the capturing of new pokemon. Thats why I need as many skilled trainers equipped with pokedex's as possible. Because it isn't always possible to capture and record a rare pokemon. But if we all work together we can learn so much more about our pokemon companions.Oh okay, that makes sense. I'll be sure to do my best professor.

Well I mostly do contests so yeah, I've got better chances of winning that way. Thats not to say I won't keep training though. I won't lose to you next time.

so there I was about to embark on my epic quest. Only me, Swampy and the wide open road. I could taste the adrenaline as I stepped out onto route 101. My very own adventure was about to begin.

On route 101 I can catch a Zigzagoon, Poochyena, or Wurmple.
On route 102 I can catch a Zigzagoon, Poochyena, Wurmple, Lotad, Seedot or Ralts.
On route 103 I (think, walkthrough isn't clear) I can catch a Zigzagoon, Poochyena, Wurmple or Wingull.
On route 104 I can catch a Zigzagoon, Poochyena, Wurmple, Tailow, Wingull, or Marill.
In Petalburg Woods I can catch a Slakoth, Shroomish, Tailow, Silcoon, Wurmple, Poochyena, or Cascoon.
Feel free to suggest names and personalities for any of them.

So before I suggest personalities I have some questions.

Do pokemon have human-like intelligence? Do only some species (Primarily psychics) have human-like intelligence?

If they do can they understand human speech. Are they capable of speaking in the same way as us?

Pokemon can and will talk. Its the mark of a good trainer that they can understand their pokemon. Cal just isn't there yet. (don't worry it'll happen soon so we don't miss anyone.) Psychics and other very intelligent pokemon can however communicate with anyone.

Wurmple Crawly. Likes scaring people.
Wingull Caw Loves to fly high and touch the sky
Marill Puffball. If it doesn't have huge power it's jealous of everyone with a higher attack, if it does it thinks that it is the strongest in the world.
Tailiow Tobias Thinks he or she is an animorph. Wants to fight the slug people
Slakoth No idea for a name But very lazy, until it evolves where it starts taking stimulants to speed up, at the cost of never sleeping, it eventually decides to give them up when it evolves to it's final form

I suppose I'll comment in Blazing Hate somewhat, although given your particular brand, I may just be asking for brain bleach more than anything! :smalltongue:

As for names and personalities:

Zigzagoon: Crook. A pokemon who can find how to "acquire" things. He also has a bent tail, and seems to be unable to walk in a straight line.

Poochyena: Pooch. Likes to talk in shorthand when at all possible, sometimes to the point he makes no sense.

Wurmple: Not sure on name, but constantly bickering about how wurmples are abused for their silk for clothing. If it goes down the Beautifly line, it becomes something of a one-man activitist. If it goes down the Dustox line, it becomes a terrorist of all things silk, attempting to eat any silk fabric when it is safe to do so.

Wingull: Ace. Likes to dive and ram into someone with its beak. Eventually becomes like a bomber when it evolves into Pelipper.

Marill: Sorry, I've got nothing. :smallfrown:

Taillow: Illven's take is exceedingly humorous enough for me to agree to. :smallbiggrin:

Slakoth: Hyperion (nice little pun involving the Greek deity associated with watchfulness.. I suppose name it Hyperia if female.) Likes to simply sit and observe everything, and puts a premium on watchfulness. However, is prone to sporadic bursts of energy, especially in combat. Also, if you get a Slakoth, you should totally get it to learn Hyper Beam! :smalltongue:

Lotad Pond Likes tricking people into thinking it's just a lilypad then attacks them when there back is turned,
Seedot JohnLocke.
Ralts Likes the fact that people fawn over it's evolved forms, thinks you should give it special treatment.

You can only catch Nincada in Route 116. Some trainers use it, but you can't catch any in Petalburg forest.

Right, getting ahead of myself. It works out though because I needed to evolve wurmple anyways for fear of doubling up.

But you can still accidentally double up. If you evolve into Silcoon you may get Cascoon, and vice versa.

Also we know one of your catches :smalltongue:

And I'm willing to bet nothing that you have Ralts, Seedot, or Lotad :smalltongue:
