I'm trying to find a way to modify/change a gnomish steamrazor into a steam powered weapon that would have been used/invented as one of the more spectator inventions during the steampowered era for my factotum, I tend to lack in flavoring items into this theme any suggestions of how to interpret this weapon into this time with any name suggestions would be highly appreciated.

What he said, blade in a housing that pops in and out in response to a very minimal gesture like extending a finger.

How about Sweeny Todd style barber razors for a more Victorian feel (granted it lacks steampower)?

I actually like the idea of it being more like the assassins creed blade, but instead of it being spring loaded, making it maybe making it steam compressed?

Making it run on steam just makes it needlessly complex, spring loaded would work just fine. Unless you intend to have it oscillate in and out constantly or something, in which I could see something like that.

Isn't steampunk ALL ABOUT needlessly complex wotsits?

Depends what sort of steampunk you mean. Not in my preferred conception of it, but a more warcraft-like one I could see the needlessly complex machine view.

Wouldn't you need to oscillate it constantly if using iaijutsu focus, or is it only after the first initial draw that matters, and will it work if you attack more than once?

Yes. Sweeney Todd made me aware of the joys of shaving with a straight razor a few months ago and the blades on real ones are maybe about 3 or 4 inches long.

the reason his are so big in the movie (and also in the stage play. watch it on youtube, it is better. george hearn and angela lansbury ftw) like 8-9 inches is so the audience can see them. this is especially important in the theatre.

this is also the reason our beloved D&D fantasy weapons are all so retardedly enormous, realistically sized swords/daggers/morningstars/etc are small and as a result harder to draw and put detail into. all that beautiful filigree on depp's razor wouldn't be possible with a razor half the size

I was gonna say sweeney todd's razor, but you beat me to it.

on a related note, the pic for avenging executioner is also holding straight razors.

I happened to draw a picture of sweeney for gotterdammerung and I can't scan it on my HP 4480, it just keeps printing copies, but won't save it to my machine. can anyone help me out? I'll post a link to photobucket once this becomes possible

Pneumatic Auxillohaptic Autolacerator.

The wind-up/spring-loaded version would be:

Convolvent Auxillohaptic Autolacerator.

Convolvent Auxillohaptic Autolacerator.

But everyone would end up calling it a Switchblade, Quickblade, or Fastblade. See how fast you get tired of saying "convolvent auxillohaphic autolacerator"? That's why.

EDIT: For the OP, just say it's clockwork on the inside, is made of brass, and is covered with baroque embellishments.

it doesnt make sense for it to be steam powered, only spring loaded.

However. a gnomish quickrazor that you can fire at an enemy and explodes into several blades? that could be steam powered heh.
