View Full Version : Has anyone reworked Illumians to add extra support?

Has anyone redone or reworked Illumians so that their racial features support more obscure classes of various sorts, and more combinations of weird classes? I'd be interested in a homebrew 'this actually works with classes that don't neatly fit into the form of the phb classes' options for their racial abilities. Does anyone know of some homebrew modifications for them, or extra rules regarding them, or anything like that?

Well you would think that Illumians would be a shoo-in for bonuses in the Truenamer class, but since nobody supports that class either... :smallconfused:

Agreed. If any race would be an auto-pick for racial sub levels for Truenamers, illumians would be a perfect fit in both fluff (they're made out of words!) and crunch.

Anyway, part of why I like illumians so much is that they don't really need that much support. While some of the combined power words don't work perfectly when you get outside of core, all of the individual sigils work just fine on their own, and some of the power words work anyway. Not saying that they absolutely couldn't use some support, but really, I don't feel like they desperately need it. I've played illumians before where I've totally ignored my power word and just focused on my sigils, and that worked just fine regardless.

They're a shoo-in for the entire ToM. Truenamers for the reason Zaq mentioned, Shadowcasters since they were born on the PoS, and Binders because they epitomize versatility. (Also, they have a thing for esoteric squiggly shapes.)

But what they really needed was more explicit psionic support. :smallfrown:

Wasn't there a WotC article online that gave them some additional stuff?

I think you are remembering the 'Preview' that is almost completely different from the final product.

Did it have crunch in it though? I'd take anything to be honest.

It took some digging, but I found it. (http://web.archive.org/web/20041207024604/http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/iw/20041114b&page=2)

It appears, the rewrote the page after they released RoD.

Jeeze... I am glad they changed it. It is hard to think wizards actually dodge a bullet for once in it's life, but it did.
