When I look at some posters' profiles, I see this "[Poster's user name] is not a member of any public groups".

(I haven't yet seen a profile in which it's stated that the poster is a member of a public group.)

But what is a public group? How do you become a member of one, if you wanted to?

This forum doesn't make use of that feature.

In general, the "group" feature allows for more control over who accesses what content. For example, an admin could define a "Zherog's Forum" and then add me and you to that group, and only you and I could post there. I believe there's a few other things group access can control, such as size of PM inbox. Generally speaking, nothing super-exciting.

There are no public groups. Therefore, you won't find anyone who is a member of a public group.
