View Full Version : Pathfinder - Unspecified Bonuses treated as Enhancement?

A couple of players here seem to remember reading somewhere that, under spells, if a specific bonus granted by the spell does not have a "type" (like enhancement, luck, resistance, etc) then it's implied that the bonus is "enhancement". They can't remember where they saw it, but think it was a Paizo FAQ on a forum somewhere. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Thanks.

If it doesn't say what type of bonus it is, it is an untyped bonus which stacks.

Correct. For instance, see bull's strength (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/b/bull-s-strength).

The spell grants a +4 enhancement bonus to Strength, adding the usual benefits to melee attack rolls, melee damage rolls, and other uses of the Strength modifier.

Compare to haste (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/h/haste).

A hasted creature gains a +1 bonus on attack rolls and a +1 dodge bonus to AC and Reflex saves. Any condition that makes you lose your Dexterity bonus to Armor Class (if any) also makes you lose dodge bonuses.

Yes, this is the accepted definition. We have a couple of people, though, who are certain that they saw somewhere that any bonus that is not given a specific type should be treated as an Enhancement bonus, and they seem to think it was somewhere in a FAQ from Paizo. I can't find any such reference, just wondering if anyone else has. Personally, I think it was a DM's House Rule a while back, but I just want to be sure.

Thanks!
