What do you see as some of the more interesting, devastating, confounding, amusing, and/or fun elementals?

I'll begin by mentioning the Elemental Weirds (MMII and Frostburn). Their divination abilities and ability to command other elementals make for solid challenges and potentially interesting play.

I also think the Immoth (MMII) is interesting with its rich background text and its ice runes ability.

What other interesting elementals are there out there?

I've always liked the Thoqqua. Advanced Thoqqua invading a place and causing massive damage to it sounds like a good campaign premise to me, very "Devil in the Dark".

Unraveler. I love the fluff for it.

Void Elemental (technically 3rd Party) is a sweet epic monster. It makes wizards soil their man-dresses.

Necromental Template is scary on something that is already devistating. In an high epic campaign, my sicko DM threw us into a pit fight with 2 Void Necromentals. Needless to say, it was a TPK

I'm a fan of the Ruin Elemental (MM5)

HA! You "Neutrals", with your elementals.

Why, the Taint Elemental is obviously the best one! Especially working for a Tainted Scholar!

Or Shadow Elemental (ToM), which seemed pretty neat...

And, of course, any (Fire) elementals, as it's the patron element of most PCs.

Great OST visual here and a great idea.

Thanks all for these good recommendations. I will have to check some of these out. Which third party book did void and necromantal come from?

You could check out Denizens of the Elemental Planes, on Planewalker.com. It's full of old updated AD&D elemental creatures. Though a good chunk seems to be devoted to Al-Qadim Genies.

Thoqquas are oodles of fun. When DMs design dungeons, they never anticipate that the PCs will tunnel through walls.

Fire bats (MMII) are definitely *NOT* CR 3's (6 HD with Regen 5? Hello?). Be very careful with those, a few of them is a TPK waiting to happen.

Chraals (MMIII) explode when you kill them, which always makes an encounter more interesting. These pair up extremely well with Fang Golems (MMIV), which also explode, and are healed by cold damage.

Orglash and Thomils (Unapproachable East) are interesting. I used an Orglash once to help break into a prismatic sphere (they get cone of cold 3/day). Thomils have an Engulf (Ex) special attack at a fairly low HD, that might be useful for something.

The avatars of elemental evil in MM-IV are amazing.

No kidding. I had read these entries quite some time ago and forgotten all about them. Quite impressive.

I adore elementals, particularly the four classics and the weirds from MMII.

The Quasi-Elementals, updated over at Planewalker, are pretty delicious. God love Vacuum and Lightning Elementals.

Man oh man. It was not my intent for this thread to devolve so scatologically.

Any elementals worth noting out there?
