Empower Bear
Transmutation
Level: Druid 4
Components: V, S, DF
Range: Close
Target: One living bear
Duration: 1 round per level
Saving Throw: Fortitude Negates (Harmless)
Spell Resistance: Yes (Harmless)

As you wave your holly branch and chant the words of power, the bear sheds its outer facade of innocent cuteness and shows its true colors, as a godless killing machine!

This spell can only affect black, brown, polar, dire, and dire polar bears. The target creature grows one Size category larger (to a maximum of Colossal) and receives a +8 Size bonus to its Strength score, a -4 Size penalty to its Dexterity score, and a +2 enhancement bonus to its natural armor. (These bonuses replace the normal bonuses for advancing in Size as stated in the Monster Manual. Everything else, including increased bonuses to Grapple and Trip, and increased Size penalties to attacks and AC still apply)

The bear is enraged, as if the closest creature to it cast the mindless rage spell on it. The bear mauls the closest creature to it until that creature dies or the spell ends. If the closest creature dies, it continues on to the nearest closest living creature.

The bear leaps and slaughters with abandon. It gains the rend and pounce special attacks, and every time it drops a creature to 0 hit points or below, it releases a gush of blood with its claws that causes all creatures in the area who can see it to make a Fortitude save (DC 10+bear's Strength modifier) or be sickened for 1d4 rounds.

The bear is in no way loyal to the druid, even if the bear was the druid's animal companion. It will attack whoever is closest to it, regardless of the druid's wishes. If the druid dies, the spell ends.

Awesome spell!

Since it's a godless killing machine, do you think a profane bonus somewhere might be appropriate? Or maybe some sort of fear aura...

It's a tribute to Stephen Colbert. If you've never seen The Colbert Report, then you won't get the joke. :smalltongue:

It's... It's beautiful.

Why thank you very much!

Edit:

Profane bonuses actually come from evil deities, so that would be the exact opposite of "godless". :smallamused:

As for the fear aura, that was the point of the sickening from just how incredibly brutal the bear is mauling people.

Ah. I have watched the Colbert Report, but not recently enough to have seen that bit.

Left out giving them Divine Defiance, the feat that gives you a Will save vs. all targeted Divine spells that don't have saves, as a part of the spell.

Question: can a Druid wildshaped to bear form cast this on himself via Natural Spell? Do creatures polymorphed into bears count as bears for targeting purposes?

Ah. I have watched the Colbert Report, but not recently enough to have seen that bit.

His pathological hatred/fear of bears been a part of his character since before he had his own show.

This should also affect Owlbears and any Tauric creature that is half-bear. I mean, yes they bearly qualify, but still!

No. It doesn't change your type. Your type is still humanoid, not animal.
