Hey, guys, just stopping by to ask for a little help. You see, I'm trying to throw a party in a couple of weeks, and while I have some experience with doing so, I want to try a little experiment. For music, I normally set up my music list filled with a few indie mixes, some rock, some hiphop, a couple of 80's tracks and the occasional club mix. This time I want it to be filled with nothing but music from different animes. Opening, endings, BGMs, trailer music, etc, and I figured this board in particular has a big love for Japanese animation, so why not try here?

However, the goal isn't to troll the people there and leave them bummed out for like five hours or to get them to leave (I'm inviting a couple of groups of friends that I know don't care for anime), but to just see how long they can go before noticing (hopefully the whole night). And thus I need help finding good, innocuous (hopefully with some English) tracks. I already have Lithium Flower form Ghost in the Shell: SAC, but what else do you guys think I should add in?

You already have Lithium Flower, so might as well go with the rest of Yoko Kanno stuff. Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex has a lot more excellent tunes, the Cowboy Bebop soundtrack has a really good funky feel to it and Kanno's work on the Macross series is very catchy and not that blatantly Japanese in feel.

I especially like the soundtrack of Macross Plus. Here's an example (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82tzllnsQ38), I doubt your friends will pick music like that out as very "anime", though it is a tad exotic in some other ways.

A lot of other good songs in there, too, and Kanno does a wide variety of different stuff so you're bound to find something to your liking.

Magia (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_Npgd6_Hpk) could be good for your purposes, though it is in Japanese. Nothing terribly anime'ish about it. Maybe God Knows (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xiEDIrFj3Cs) too, though again Japanese. Beyond this I'm not quite certain, most anime tends to have music that doesn't really hide that it was made for a show. Also, a lot of it is kinda bad.

Four words, and I'm only going to say them once:

COWBOY BEBOP

(and)

SAMURAI CHAMPLOO

(doesn't get better than that)

If you want Yoko Kanno party music get a hold of Get9 also of GitS:S.A.C. also Run Run Rabbit Junk and Torumekia along with Inner Universe and Rise the season opener musics. The woman is a master worker.

Someone mentioned Macross Plus, I would likewise second recommending Information High. All very techno-pop-psyidelic music made of win and awesome

From TTGL... Viral's theme Nikopol is probably the best party music for being noticable and energetic. A heavy rock here. If you want rap in there the of course its time to Row Row Fight the Power.

Also on rap you have the first Shippuden opening Hero's Come Back and Samurai' Champloo's OP.

Gundam Wing is a positive gold mine of 90s J-pop courtesy of Two Mix. Which would give you Just Communcation, Rhythm Emotion, White Reflection, and Last Impression.

Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha helped launch Nana Mizuki to be one of Japan's top artists. From there we have Brave Phoenix, Take a Shot, Eternal Blaze, Massive Wonders and Pray with at least one I'm forgetting. She also did the banging ending theme for the otherwise lackluster (anime, manga is incredible) Rosario+Vampire's Dancing in the Velvet Moon. Also one near to my heart because its a totally under-appreciated series would be Dog Days OP Scarlet Knight also by her.

Another potential source OPs would be .hack//SIGN's Obsession, Outlaw Star's Through the Night. An oldie but a goodie would be Bleach's Number One, sadly the same can't be said about the series

And while they are strictly BGM so I don't know if they would make good party music but G Gundam's Shining Finger and Burning Finger themes (I don't have a translation on their names) much be mentioned for sheer badass. While Gundam Unicorn has given superior work with the Unicorn theme and it red zeon counterpart Full Frontal (plus whatever the heck Kshatriya's theme is) in general Gundam Unicorn has a frakking epic score. Which would also go for the main theme of Char's Counterattack, EPIC. Speaking of BGMs I'd be remiss not to mention the Nanoha's own Ace of Aces... or as I like to call it, music to shoot through walls and annihilate the sadistic bitch tormenting your daughter with maximum firepower.

I'll add my vote for Yoko Kanno.

You might want to check the OST of Darker then Black: 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JqK7N2AdUL4&feature=related), 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MjesylGsz0&feature=related). Also Hellsing (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T7muVn6YZbw&feature=related).

From the golden age of japanese-french series comes Ulysse 31. Either the original (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-N0Nfqmf1kM&feature=related) soundtrack (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIpmAGZoBs0&feature=related), or it's revisited version by Parallax (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_a2EhbTYVgM&feature=related) - 80's in their best.

Side note: this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AOPmu_ZX1lk&feature=related) is quite amazing.
