I really like this concept, specially with the Practiced Mindblade feat from Dragon Magazine. It's like, you summon 'spiritual armor' and 'spiritual blade'. I like Combat Slide, so I was thinking of going that route (plus the Step Up tree) for a mobile warrior type.
Does this sound doable at all?

This is doable, but I strongly advise you pick up Unlimited Possibilities (http://dreamscarredpress.com/dragonfly/Store/product/pid=77.html) (via pre-ordering the full book (http://dreamscarredpress.com/dragonfly/Store/product/pid=71.html) if possible to get everything else) for the Aegis base class instead. Not only is it very similar to a synthesist summoner in terms of customizing/tricking yourself out with various abilities, it has much better psionic flavor than a Summoner, and there is even a PrC in the same book that "theurges" Aegis and Soulknife to help you get the most out of your progression on both sides (it's called the Metaforge.)

Here is the preview (http://watermark.rpgnow.com/pdf_previews/95327-sample.pdf) showing the Aegis class table.
