The game involves players creating and destroying various types of blocks in a three dimensional environment. Honestly, it's almost as if you're not completely obsessed and actually have a life to attend to or something. :smalltongue:Well, there was that hotfix last night that made 1.08 (more) playable. Though I kinda liked the idea that the vending machine looting was broken in the sense of "fundamentally unraveling the fabric of the Dredmor-verse," rather than the current "free food, booze, and ammo" sense. :smalltongue:

While I was waiting for the patch I tried out several of the HiB4 games:Super Meat Boy -- awesome game, had it since it was in the Potato Sack, sitting on something like 75% completion right now.
Shank -- mindless violence usually doesn't appeal to me ... except when I'm in the exact state of mind I was in yesterday evening. The art and the story aren't half bad, either. :smalltongue:
NightSky -- nice to see a puzzle/platformer in the mix, though I certainly wouldn't object to more-but-shorter level packs.
Jamestown -- strikes me as being in the slightly-bizarre middle ground between "Western" and "Bullet Hell" shmups, much like it's in the slightly-bizarre middle ground between historical- and science-fiction. First impression was good, but I'd probably like it more if I had potential second (and third and fourth) players at hand. Or a ship with a wider firing pattern, and make my hitbox more visible, and a way to slow down my movement ... y'know what? Just ... mod it until it could pass for Touhou, and we'll talk more then. :smalltongue:
Bit.Trip Runner -- so very different from Bit.Trip Beat ... and this is one case where I'm not sure if I like the more-but-shorter levels and auto-restart-on-mistake features.
Gratuitous Space Battles -- hoo boy. Yet another game that parts of my brain want to view as an optimization challenge, with quick enough feedback that said optimization is intuitive and/or fun rather than tedious. Easily 20% cooler than just hearing about it led me to believe.
Cave Story + -- it's on my to-do list, arright?

For the first couple levels, I kept finding myself holding shift out of sheer habit and wondering why I couldn't see my hitbox. Focused movement really spoils you after a while. :smallredface: (Luckily, all dem bullets onscreen helped with the other half of FM by slowing down everything)

Their are ways to have fun that don't involve Terraria? And relatedly, is it just more, or does that game get harder with every update? Pre-1.1, never encountered a harpy on my sky bridge, now their as common as taxes. Also have a weird glitched chest I can't remove that I keep for novelty (and because that world is my main).

Terraria 1.1 doesn't work on my laptop, unlike terrarria 1.0. That must have been some update. I use to get a nice 40 fps. and now I'm lucky to get four. This means I'm unlikely to ever play it.

The long list of game unplayable on my laptop grows. Which is good because it is suppose to be a work laptop, free of distractions.

The thing about indie games is that many of them are "throwback" games, bringing a modern polish to old-school gaming standbys like platformers in Super Meat Boy's case. Since older games tended to be a lot harder than modern games these games that are trying to emulate their feel will likewise be much harder. Also since really hard games pull in far fewer purchases, due to the fact that most people don't want to be frustrated by their games, its rare for big publishers putting out any truly hard games, leaving that niche to be filled by indie developers.

I don't know, that Engie shotgun is probably going to do pretty lousy damage, even if it'll be kinda fun to piss off Medics, I'd still rather use the Widowmaker or the vanilla shotgun as a combat Engie.

Valve'll probably slap a 30~50% damage penalty on the gun for such a power. Which essentially makes it useless for anything other than to annoy spies and medic. Great support weapon I suppose, especially if it drains on hit.

Let me put it this way:

It's Double Dragon fixed to a single plane, with free-flowing combat, on steroids. It's really awesome.

Also, is there a drawback to the new Engy shotty?

I don't know if anyone else noticed, but the Dungeons of Dredmore DLC released yesterday. Still havent beaten the base game, or even gotten farther than floor 5, but damn it I want it. Maybe next paycheck, if anyone has it are the new skills any good?

It's currently bugged, because Gaslamp is the new Bethesda.

Basically, it will run on OS X and Linux. It won't even acknowledge that you have the DLC on Windows. This will be fixed tomorrow, hopefully.

You're not the only one, though in my folly, I still try to use the Degreaser in a misguided attempt to learn how to puff-n-sting effectively. I usually fail horribly and switch to Demoman soon after. :smallbiggrin:

You're not. From what I can tell, the better Pyro players don't use it (and for good reasons!) but I do enjoy it. I love to switch to Pyro on maps that have good ambush points and wreck enemies with the Backburner. It's more or less useful depending on how aware the enemy team is, but it's always satisfying to get those quick kills.

I too try to use Degreaser every once in a while. It's a bit more difficult than the Backburner, though. I decided to give up using the Reserve Shooter - too much of a hassle to throw someone in the air, switch and shoot before they land. Postal Pummeler after igniting them works well enough. I suppose I like the Backburner because I can't use the air blasts to their full potential even with the normal Flamethrower or the Degreaser yet.

The deal with Alpha and Beta accounts is entirely to keep Mojang's lawyers happy. Originally Beta accounts were going to have the same benefits as Alpha accounts: all updates free forever, but by that time Mojang had lawyers looking at things, and nearly had an aneurism over that idea, so they adjusted the language for Beta.

What will probably end up happening, as stated by Notch at one point, is that he would like all paid accounts to get all future content free forever, and while this is guaranteed for Alpha users, this may not be the case for Beta users, but that is a thing he will try his hardest to avoid.

Nope, beta is a farce nowadays. Last content patched into main game from beta was October, and before that, April.

Third Degree is the least broken weapon so far in that display.

"Why didn't you just minigun him to death?" is also a valid question for the back crits, but I suppose unless you're using the Tomislav, the spin-up time would give your target some time to react rather than them being stuck laughing. Still kind of a gimmick though.

Based on what I've seen (Admittedly not much), it seems a reasonable trade off. You lose your knife for a while, but the Pyro will probably stop spychecking you after you fail to catch light initially.
Though, once they get used to it, they may start spychecking again 2 seconds later, at which point the Spy-cicle may become a bit rubbish.

You're neglecting to consider half of the classic combination. W+M1. The inclusion of the W means that no, they will not be spychecking the same patch of air more than once. They will move onto different patches of air, while the Spy laughs at them.

Looking for someone who has played Skyrim, Minecraft, and Fallout 3(Or new vegas) for a comparison question. So naturally I come here.

Is Skyrim more like fallout 3 or minecraft? I've heard rumors that skyrim you craft pickaxes which you use to mine ore which you smelt and craft into items, exactly like minecraft. And the rarer the ore (Like diamond) the more difficult to find, mine and more powerful item you can craft from it. So it got me thinking, What exactly is an open world RPG? Is minecraft? Is Skyrim? Is fallout 3?

I ask because I feel I need to know if Skyrim is more like Fallout 3 or more like minecraft. It will determine whether or not I buy the game. Because 600 hours into minecraft, I rub my hands together in glee thinking, now's the time to learn the magic of redstone, but 5 hours of fallout 3 and I think "Alright, I'm bored. The game play is so repetitive(Shoot, shoot, loot, repair, repeat) and the plot is going nowhere, time to play minecraft."

Don't get me wrong. Fallout 3 is probably an amazing, fun, exciting game for some people. Just not me. If Skyrim is similar, a fun amazing game for some people who are not me, then I could save myself a LOT of money. (Now really wishing I asked this prior to purchasing New Vegas)

Just being the same genre doesn't make them the same game. Final Fantasy VII is technically in the same genre as all of those games, but it certainly isn't anything like them!

The question I'd have to ask you is: what is it you liked about Dragon Age, and what did you dislike about Fallout 3? Speaking personally I'm pretty much the same--I think this is largely because Fallout 3 seemed to be a whole lot of messing around without a lot of story or a clearly defined goal most of the time. This is certainly not the case in Skyrim, where the main plot is extremely well defined and all the ancillary side-quests are just gravy, really. I like Skyrim (must do, have 65 hours played and am nearly level 40 now!), so you can take that for what it's worth.

The thing about MONOCULUS! is legit, though. The eye locks the CP as soon as he appears, and it's so much more fun to try to get a MONOCULUS! "high score."

I can see both sides here. I suggest that people only try to get achievements if EVERYONE agrees to it, or at least a large majority agree, and everyone knows.

While I, crazy person that I am, try to get achievements in regular play. If I join a server and find everyone is achievement farming, I leave and find a different server.


I'm not sure if there are any, actually. I assumed there were based on people's desperation to complete them as quickly as possible. Reminded me of the stuff surrounding Monoculus.

It's probably due to different version between your game and the server's. Since different servers update at different rate, and TF2 helpfully only shows servers that matches your game versions, well, you get the disappearing server syndrome.

Nope. For one thing, TF2 does show servers which are running a different version of the game, and you get told as much when you try to connect to them.
Secondly, I look in game, I can see 4 servers in my favourites. But if I look out of game, just in Steam, I see those 4 servers and then a list of IPs for servers which are not responding.

Though... right now, ChHa appears to be up again. Like I said, it comes and goes.

Heh, I have 4 items in my steam inventory, which shows up about half the time, and 3 in portal 2 which has only shown up as an option to view once in the 20ish times I've tried looking in my inventory. Oh yes, and there's no items visible in any of the inventory tabs.

OK, so I've got Day of Defeat: Source (Is it any good?), 25% off a Valve game (Might be helpful, but probably not) and 50% off Assassin's Creed Brotherhood (Not planning on buying that, so probably going to trade this or give it away).
