It seems odd to me the way you have the play by post games set up - one area for OOC threads and another for IC threads. Wouldn't it be much cleaner to have a subforum for each individual game so that the IC and OOC threads for a particular game could be in the same area? Then DM's could also generate new threads as new chapters in the campaign unfold and you're not searching through everyone else's games for the right thread.

....And THAT is the story of how GITP got 100+subforums

Just one thing I'd like to point out: you don't have to search for your thread among the others. If you're doing play-by-post, it's highly useful to just subscribe to the IC and OOC threads.

You can do this by clicking on Thread tools--->Subscribe to this thread in the top right corner of the thread you're interested in. This way, each time the thread is updated it will show in your user CP when you click on it (top left corner of the screen).

Also, you can see all your subscriptions by clicking Quick links----> Subscribed threads. This way it becomes easy to keep track of all the game threads you're in!

Sure, that has a fair number of benefits. But there's two major drawbacks:

1) somebody has to create and maintain all those forums.
2) There's enough pbp games here that the list of subforums would very quickly get unwieldy.

Agreed. Sheer volume would make it daunting to maintain. Thanks for answering me!

Each subforum greatly adds to the resource usage of the website. We already have enough server problems, and there are literally hundreds of games going on at any one point. Plus, moderators would need to get involved in making new subforums and deleting old ones, including determining whether old ones were still active or not. It's a lot of unnecessary work when the current system works just fine.

As suggested, there's no reason anyone should be searching through the entire IC forum looking for your game. Your DM should link you to the IC and OOC threads when he creates them, either in the Recruitment thread or via PM. Then just subscribe to the threads in the games you're involved in, and you can find them through your User CP page (located at the left end of the brown bar at the top of the forum pages).
