Welcome to the OOC thread. Everyone please reserve one post here to house your sheet (try to let everyone reserve a post before making a second post). I'd also like everyone to get started on hammering out guest-starrings.

Also, if your character has any particular location he or she frequents, or if you just have a good idea, feel free to bring it up! We'll all be cooking up Faces and Locations and Aspects and Threats for the city together. After all, they will bring the plot hooks and the action. and of course, if you wish to let me know of any character-specific plot-hooks (like goals) your characters have, feel free as well. The first thing I'm thinking about is where the Accorded Neutral Ground in New Cannes will be, and fleshing out the place and the Face there.

Phase 1: Amber's father, Raphael, was a wizard, unlike her mother. Her father was a rich man and he met her mother, Lilia during a business trip to France. The two fell in love during his time in France. However, their time wouldn't last as he was sadly called back from work and had to return to the United States after only a year of being in France.

Lilia discovered shortly after his departure that she was pregnant. She was worried that she would be abandoned and have to raise the kid on her own, a fear that was increased by the fact that Raphael didn't seem to have a phone or email for some reason.

However, her fears were for naught. Despite Lilia moving while Raphael was back in the USA, the lovestruck wizard showed up on her door one day and announced he'd be there to stay.

The two married eventually and raised their new born daughter Amber in France for the first two years of her life. Afterward, the two moved to the USA and lived a life of luxury supported by Raphael's money.

Amber, as such, grew up in a life of luxury with her father, a wizard, and her mother, a pure mortal.

Aspect: Living the High Life.

Phase 2:
It was at the age of sixteen that Amber's powers began to manifest. Her father hadn't rushed it, told her, or trained her until then. He had wanted her to decide on her own if and how she'd use her powers. However, once she learned about them it didn't take very long for her father to start training her long and hard. He taught her about the White Council, the Laws of Magic, and how to control her powers so as to not give herself away or to accidentally break the laws.

Occasionally Amber would lose control and mess up. In fact, after she accidentally destroyed one of their houses her father and her went off on a trip alone (After her dad bought a new house for her mother to stay in.) They trained away from society so as to avoid too much destruction due to Amber's raw power, but limited control.

After a period of training she eventually gained control of her powers and her father brought her before the White Council to make her an official member. And so at the age of nineteen she became a member of the White Council and began to train with them away from her father.

At first she was a bit uncomfortable and missed her family, but eventually she got a lot more comfortable when she started to come to terms with her sexuality. Her flirty, seductive manners made her rather glad her father was no longer around her during training.

Aspect: Always Looking for the next Mr. Wrong

Phase 3:
Shortly after turning twenty-one, Amber was sent to New Cannes to keep an eye on the things there. Although she was still a new wizard, the limited number of trained wizards due to the war had required them to send someone to New Cannes to monitor the various threats.

She didn't have to wait long and shortly upon arrival she encountered an extremely attractive man. Impressed with his riches that surpassed even her father's, his good looks, and his charming nature, Amber temporarily let her guard down. She flirted with him, he flirted back, and she thought she had him in the palm of her hands like prior boys she had flirted with. Rather than take the taxi that the White Council had set up for her, she agreed to the ride the attractive man offered her and got in the car.

Things turned sour however and Amber found herself incapacitated and unable to defend herself as the man, who turned out to be one of the vampires she had been warned about, attempted to feed on her. Apparently they had heard about a new White Council wizard arriving in town and had decided to take advantage of the new recruit. Caught up in the vampire's power she was unable, even unwilling, to resist.

Luckily, the vampire was stopped (cough opening for other players cough) before he could finish and she was snapped out of the trance and able to defeat the vampire. However, the encounter caused her to close up and become very untrusting of people.

Aspect: Never Let Them Get Too Close

Phase Four: "Wolfhound"
- Starring Caleb, with guest stars Grim, Amber and Brando

A small town lies under a cloud of fear. A pack of hexenwolves stalks the fields, taking animals and men alike. Authorities are baffled, and the howls grow louder every night. Many begin to give up hope.

But then, one day, a stranger drifts into town, a wolf corpse over one shoulder. There's a saying: One riot, one ranger. Tonight, the hounds of hell learn that to beat one pack, all you need is one Dog.

Gray lets Amber convince him that a road trip is just the thing to spice things up. Unfortunately, running out of gas in a small hick town filled with wide-eyed mortals wasn't quite the excitement they were looking for. When a group of hexenwolves start to howl at the moon, Gray finds himself in a party that he wants no part of ...

Aspect: Girls just want to have fun

Phase Five: "Charming Beasts"
- Starring Brando, with guest stars Grim, Amber and Caleb

Brando and his White Court girlfriend start attacking Red Court vampires. But what happens when the RC calls in support to attack the WC for breaking the truce? Can Brando and his friends intervene before New Cannes becomes a killing ground for a vampire war?

Answering a call from Amber, Grim finds himself embroiled in Vamp Court politics - not the way he wanted to spend his weekend! Amber however has a little secret, she'd rather have both courts get weakened so they can't threaten the White Council rather than get a quick peace. How will Amber's goals and Brando's mix?
Aspect: Ends Justify the Means

Item Slots:
-Focus Item (2 slots): Glove on right hand, rune on tip of pointer finger (+1 offensive control and power to spirit)

Amber's right hand glove is used to help her focus her spells. By using the glove to help 'aim' she points her hand as if aiming a gun in order to focus on the spell. The small nearly unnoticeable rune on the tip of the finger gives it the magical boost it needs. Overall the glove is meant to look like a normal glove to avoid drawing attention and only people focusing hard on it will notice the tiny magical rune.

-Enchanted Item (4 slots): +6 block, twice a session
If Amber's right glove is her weapon, her left glove is her shield. Amber spent a long time slowly strengthening this glove and the rune on this one is quite a bit more noticeable. This gloves rune is on the inside palm and she holds it out in combat to block. The glove creates a small and weak magical barrier to keep her safe. Unlike the right hand, the left isn't a focus item and when called upon, places a weak magical aura over her. The downside to this is that it lacks the power of her actual shield spell, but it gives her a quick use shield for times when she can't focus quick enough to use a spell.

ROTE SPELLS

Souffle de l'esprit
At the point of her finger a blast of powerful dense and focused spiritual energy fires from Amber. Souffle de l'esprit is Amber's preferred method of attack due to the fine control she has over it. It causes minimal exhaustion and is easy to pull off due to practice.
Type: Spirit Evocation, Offensive Attack
Power: 7 shifts
Control: Auto-succeed with focus item. Unusable without glove.
Target: One target within line of sight
Duration: One action
Opposed by: Target's Athletics or magical block

Âme du Bouclier
Amber speaks the enchantment then thrust both hands forward as if in a double stop like motion both palms pointed forward. The shield draws from her very soul and forms an invisible but powerful barrier around her. The barrier makes her appear to glow like an angel.
Type: Spirit, Defensive block
Power: 6 shifts
Control: Automatic success
Duration: One exchange
Effect: A wall of kinetic energy formed from the magic of Amber's soul surrounds her to block with a 6-shift block

**Two Not Yet Created. Will most likely create in game. Depends on how long we take**

Character Fluff

Picture: Note that hair is wet, thus its darker than normal

http://oi39.tinypic.com/149yx4z.jpg
Name: Amber Ranoue
Age: 21
Occupation: Wizard (Warden)
Appearance: Amber has green eyes and straight, dark blonde hair (http://www.wiggoddess.com/images/14-24.jpg) (almost brown) hair that goes down to the small of her back. She rarely puts it in any form of hair piece, preferring to let it hang loose. The length of her hair as such means she spends a lot of time combing it to keep knots out and keep it straight and beautiful.

Amber rarely wears make-up since she finds herself pretty enough without needing to add anything and prefers to show her natural looks as opposed to something fake. Her preferred style of clothing is a black mini-skirt and a black sleeveless top that exposes her midriff, but covers her cleavage. She prefers this clothing style due to the fact that it attracts attention, but doesn't show anything, much to most people's disappointment.

She also wears black leather gloves on both hands (see enchanted and focus items). In regards to jewelry she tends to wear very little, just a necklace and earrings. Her ears have a few piercings, two in the normal spots and one up at the top. She also has a belly-button piercing, but doesn't wear it as often as her other pieces of jewelry.

When she expects to go into combat or on Warden missions she wears a sports bra, but most the time she wears a typical bra. Realizing she could get into combat at anytime, she wears boy short panties (also black) most the time, saving her sexier underwear for dates and time off.

Personality: Amber is extremely flirty, not because she is looking for an actual boyfriend, but because she likes the ego boost and sense of power she gets when guys fall for her. It gives her a sense of control to know that with just a little effort she can have someone wanting her. Amber knows she is attractive and enjoys it.

She takes good care of her appearance, usually taking quite a bit of time in the morning to get ready between showering, doing her hair, and other forms of personal maintenance to stay in tip top shape. She wakes up early each morning in order to groom herself and also get in a workout to stay in shape. Once the workout and grooming are done she focuses on getting her mental state ready and recharging any items that need recharging.

Despite her flirty nature, Amber is still a virgin due to the fact that she isn't actually looking for a boyfriend so much as she is looking for an ego booster or 'toy'. She tends to jump from one target to the another rather quickly. Once a man has fallen for her she loses interest and moves onto another. This quick moving on has caused her to not actually get very far into many relationships. This jumping around and flirting has also given her a rather bad reputation.

Amber is very carefree and just likes to have fun most the time. She realizes while doing Warden stuff she has to be serious, but the way she sees it that's just a job. When off the job she can have fun, relax, and enjoy life. After all, there is a time and place for everything.

"Who wants to be a boring stuffy stick-up-the-butt warden? Like that one jerk...what was his name? Morg? Mugran? Morgy? Something like that."
-Amber

I'll wait to brain storm locations, faces, threats until everyone has a sheet posted.

Character Details:Gray woke up with a start, the Glock 21 he kept under the bed already in his hand. His ears quivered, slightly orienting around the rooms like little radar dishes. He sniffed a couple of times, his eyes scanning the darkened room he had called home for the past two weeks, before finally lowering the weapon. With a sigh, he fell back onto his bed, arms above his head as his mind replayed the dream he just had.

He was standing on an empty, barren plain, nothing for as far as the eye could see. A sound of thunder echoed in the distance, as a thunder clouds began to form on the horizon all around. To his left, the clouds darkened, forming a funnel. To his right, the clouds unleashed a torrent of white, the blizzard obscuring all vision. As the two forces of nature closed on each other, Gray realized he was no longer alone - a woman stood next to him, smiling down at him. His mother's eyes looked so green, so alive. She leaned close, kissing him on the forehead. The next moment, he was standing on a small rise, watching his mother wave from between the storms. She called out to him, but her words were snatched away by the opposing forces of nature. He screamed back a warning, crying for her to come, but the confused look on her face told him his voice couldn't reach her. He started to run, faster and faster, dropping to all fours. The distance disappeared under his feet, but she was always just out of reach. Then, without further preamble, the two storms collided, and in a flash of red she was gone.
Sitting up, Gray stretched languidly, scratching his back with the barrel of his gun. Standing up, he pulled a button-up shirt over the wife beater he was wearing and pulled on a pair of jeans before he wandered over to the boarded windows and glanced through the cracks. Nothing stirred in the darkness of the empty streets, but Gray knew things lived within the pitch black. Hell, he was one of those things.

Moving over to the bed, he slipped on his shoes and sighed again. "So, how long you gonna sit there and watch me, Rich? I've got sh&* to do ..." He looked over at a section of the room that was completely empty. There was a pause, then a grunt of frustration. After a moment, the air shimmered and a slightly overweight man in glasses appeared, wearing a robe and holding a staff. "Damn, Grim, that was one of my better veils ... how'd you see me?"
Gray, or Grim as some folks called him, grinned, looking for all the world like the Cheshire Cat, which made sense in more ways than one. He almost told the wizard that he didn't see him, but could smell the power from a mile away, but then he wouldn't get to enjoy that look of flabbergasted confusion. So instead, he shrugged and walked over to a table where his backpack sat.

The wizard sighed, and leaned against the wall. "You don't have to go. You have a place here ... you have friends." Gray laughed at that, and looked back over at the man, his green eyes glittering in the dark. "That's rich, Rich. I saved your bacon once or twice, you and the others saved mine a few ... call it convenience, call it a working relationship, but let's not start picking out rings." Seeing the hurt look in the wizard's eye, he shook his head. "Hey, you guys are okay, as far as folks in our circles go. Um, it's not you, it's me. I'm not ready for commitment. I need to see other people. Dude, whatever helps you guys say good-bye and forget you saw me, go with that. I'm a stray. I ... stray. Go fight the big bad, save the day, all that. I just want to live long enough to crap in some Sidhe oatmeal, capesh?"

Sliding the pack onto his shoulder, he checked his pistol and slid it into his belt. "Say bye to Roz for me ... she's a peach." Walking over to the door, he looked at his watch and glanced out. "Gotta run, Rich. Keep your head on a swivel."

"Before they put it on a platter." Rich smiled sadly, finishing the joke. With a quick wave, Gray was out the door and gone. The half-Sidhe was like lightning, and twice as hard to bottle. He was almost all the way down the street when he smelled the wafting odors of magic, similar to Rich's, but darker ... fouler. He paused for a moment, glancing back at his former residence, knowing it was the target. Then he shrugged and took off in the opposite direction.

He did warn the guy.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Phase One (Background): Gray was born of the union between a mortal woman and wyldefae - the results of Winter gone wild, but with just enough emotion to give this a chance at being a classic storybook tale. However, like the REAL stories, the recountings, if you will, of the Brothers Grimm, this would become much more like the Faerie tales of old. For ten years, Gray grew up with his mother, knowing his father was Sidhe, but not knowing much of the politics involved. He lived a veritable charmed life, but not the kind you might envision. When the older kid came to beat him up, a slip on the ice here or a random teacher showing up there kept him out of harm's way. By contrast, when he was about to break a school scoring record, he would trip prior to the shot, or commit a penalty. He survived a fall off the roof of the house with little more than a scratch, but managed to catch pneumonia prior to a field trip to meet the President.

He should have expected there would be an eventual accounting when he came home with the certificate for a free Playstation 3 and a note from the cute girl three seats over. He earned a crash course in Faerie politics when a Summer envoy came a-callin' on his mother. To Gray's father's credit, the old cat actually showed to defend his ... 'holdings.' However, ensuing fight between the Summer and Winter vassals was probably a bit much ... as was, undoubtedly, the unintentional killing of the object of their desires through an explosion that leveled the house and half the block. However, the woman's death did serve to force the withdraw of the conflict from here in the mortal realm to the Nevernever, a fight that was a break in the Accords.

Crawling out of the mattress truck (mattress truck? I mean, really?) he had landed in, Gray was suddenly alone, with no family or idea of who or what he truly was. Being left to fend for yourself as a half-breed Sidhe is bad enough - try doing it when you're ten and living in the ultimate city of Good vs Evil - Washington DC. Power brokers, major players, elder abominations, vampires, Hillary Clinton ... there are no small amount of sharks eager to find even a trace of blood in the water.

- Phase Aspect: What the Luck? (When Gray is at his highest points, it seems that life likes to bring him down a notch. However, when days are darkest, he is one of the luckiest sonsuvbiatches alive ...)

Phase Two (Rising Conflict): Gray was moved to a foster home initially, but that lifestyle didn't really take. It wasn't very hard to leave and disappear into the shadows, finding scraps, slipping in and out of shelters, and keeping off the radar of the bigger things that went bump in the night.

The first two years were the hardest - Nature may hate a vacuum, but she sure doesn't mind sucking the life out of you when she gets a chance. He barely made it, and learned a valuable lesson about survival in the big city - to go it alone, you'd better pack major mojo, or have some back-up. Even the 'danes figured that one - 'hang together or we all hang alone' ... or some crap like that.

As he entered his teenage years, Gray had a better handle on what he was, where to tread lightly, and where to not tread at all. Without a job, it was easier to take what he wanted and the consequences be dodged! Hell, if Robin Hood could do it and get a movie deal, Gray figured he could, too. He even joined a band of not-so-merry men and women. Well, girls and boys - other orphans, outcasts, street rats and guttersnipes. Group dynamics provided more eyes to watch each other's backs, more claws to defend themselves, and more hands to snake those pockets. It was a good gig for a couple of summers. His traditional education might have suffered, but he learned things on the streets with those kids that got him a GED in CYA. Plus, he earned the nickname Grim, a play on his lineage and a shout-out to his ever chipper demeanor and 'can-do' attitude!

However, if there was one truth he had learned, it was that life was always willing to give you a lesson about the ways of the world. As he neared maturity, Grim and his band ran afoul of a set of particularly nasty worshippers of best unforgotten elder gods. Apparently, they didn't take kindly to anyone stealing their artifacts prior to a summoning ritual - so much so that even after getting the artifacts back, they killed a half-dozen of the 'band' just as payback. It served as a reminder to all the kids that in the big game of life, there were some rolls that ended your turn - permanently. It also served as a cautionary tale about ruthlessness for the cultists. At least, the ones who survived the Red Court vamps that showed up at their next summoning party, based on an anonymous tip concerning a White Council Safe house.

The other lesson he learned was handed over via a group of Dudley Do-gooders who attempted to incarcerate more than a few of the band and execute the rest, displeased with their penchant for wanton thievery. One of the band had tipped the Wardens, but their consistent disregard for any semblance of subtlety was as much their undoing as the betrayal. Keeping a low profile was beneficial, something Grim should have remembered those parts from the movies, and subsequently he made sure their actions were on the down low. Leaving the large rambunctious group of Robin Hooders, Grim found a smaller sect of more demure Marxists, taking from each according to their ability, and providing to each according to their need. In time, they was able to strike a balance, hitting both sides of the fences ... one time it was the local grocery store, the next time it was a low-level mobster, always limited and low key. Never pissing off the same people enough to become a priority.

Over the next few years, Grim learned that trust was hard earned, but also that it was harder to give. While even a stone-cold survivalist like himself needed allies, he dreaded long associations. A few times, he grew a little to close - none of those seemed to end well, but they all ended, one way or another.

Eventually, Gray took to leaving first; sometimes before trouble found him, sometimes after, but always on his terms. He walked the line - confrontations w/o making enemies; assistance, w/o friendship. He looked for opportunities and established alliances where he could, but nothing permanent. He learned to survive the hard way. In life, nothing is easy. But it was better than the alternative.

- Phase Aspect: Hardboiled (It's a hard world out there, and Grim knows it. He's seen the cold sh(* that lives in the darkness ... and sometimes it is him.)

Phase Three (The Story): Alone and Unafraid - Starring Alexander Drake, Dragon-born Scion; Magni son of Thor, Aesir; and Rosalie the Hedgewitch

After Gray reached maturity, he decided it was time to visit Daddy dearest. Unfortunately, for all his heritage, he had no idea how to open a way to the Nevernever. Determined to get an accounting of what happened that day long ago, Gray sought out a local practitioner named Rosalie, who was willing to open a Way across. He went, with a group of half-bloods, seeking out his father. The trip was tough, and the answers he found scarred him for life ... for the truth the Faerie tells is never the truth you hear. What he did learn was that both his father had been ostracized by the battle so many years ago, and was no longer welcome in the Courts of the Sidhe. By contrast, Summer had declared his father a foe, and Grim was his spawn. He was now outcast and disavowed by two Courts for the simple crime of being born to an arrogant prick. Isn't life amongst the Faeries grand?

Gray and the others barely made it out, with a warning that he was not welcome to in Nevernever without an official summons. He in turn declared his own private war against the Courts, vowing to harry their efforts until such time that his mortal bond said otherwise. His mortal bond being, of course, his deceased mother.

- Phase Aspect: The Grudge (When it comes to the Sidhe, Gray is rarely swayed, by Faerie or others alike. He enjoys any opportunity to wreak havoc upon the workings of the Faerie world, and is often resistant to their manipulations)

Description:
Gray is lean and lanky, looking for all the world like a piece of toughened leather, even though he doesn't appear older than early twenties. His skin is dusky without being dark, his eyes are emerald green, and his dark hair is usually short and unkempt. When he smiles, the grin is both infectuous and somewhat disconcerting. He tends to walk in a languid, measured sort of way, but when he chooses to 'exert' himself, he moves like lightning. His long fingers fingers are usually drumming a beat on his leg, or in time to some tune he is humming under his breath.

He typically wears old jeans and tees, usually with an unbuttoned long-sleeved shirt ... plaid, flannel, or darker tones. Both of his ears are pierced, with a small silver stud through each, and there is a tattoo of the Thundercat symbol on his left shoulder. He occasionally wears sunglasses, but rarely wears caps. When is is talking to someone one, regardless of how relaxed or disinterested he appears, his eyes (half-lidded or not) are locked onto the subject of his attention, usually bright and unblinking.

However, under the surface guise of mortality and normalcy, lies his other face. Green cat's eyes stare out from beneath long bangs, contrasted by tufted ears that twitch and orient on any sounds around him. A very faint coat of fur, almost indistinguishable from his skin tone, covers his exposed limbs, and his long fingers taper into sharp claws. The most disturbing part of it all his smile; that damnable, impossibly-wide grin that looks for all the world like something out of Wonderland.

Guest Staring Roles:
Phase Four (Guest Star): "Kiss me Deadly"
- Starring Amber, with guest stars Grim, Brando and Caleb

For her first, coming-of-age mission, Amber was sent to New Cannes to monitor the various threats. She didn't have to wait long to get into trouble when she flirted with one of the first attractive men she saw. Unfortunately for her, the man was a vampire who hoped to take advantage of the new White Council recruit.

Alone, incapacited and at the mercy of the vampire, it looked like this might be a short stint for the Council's newest Warden ...

Grim had only been in town a couple of weeks and was still feeling out New Cannes. He was slinking home from a night of bad intentions, sipping on a small bottle of whiskey when he smelled something in the air. Pausing in an alleyway he noticed an attractive girl being led to a car by an aflluent pretty boy. He watched for a moment, then moved up to the door and snatched it open, finding a vampire ready to sink his teeth into his prey. "A little fast for first base, don't you think?" Before the vamp could move, Grim's hand flew out and slashed the would-be rapist's throat with claws that seemingly appeared out of nowhere, then drove them knuckle deep into the man's stomach. Yanking the girl out of the car, he sprinted safety. Glancing back at her as they ran, he grinned his disturbing grin. "Name's Gray. But you can call me Grim."

With that, Grim gained his first ally in a new town ... and a whole mess of enemies.
- Phase Aspect: Making the List (Grim has an innate talent for gaining allies whenever he arrives in town, but it usually involves earning a few enemies as well. What's the difference between a rep and a bounty? Both get you street cred ... and might get you killed.)
----------------------------------------------------------

Phase Four (Guest Star Redux): "Wolfhound"
- Starring Caleb, with guest stars Grim, Amber and Brando

A small town lies under a cloud of fear. A pack of hexenwolves stalks the fields, taking animals and men alike. Authorities are baffled, and the howls grow louder every night. Many begin to give up hope.

But then, one day, a stranger drifts into town, a wolf corpse over one shoulder. There's a saying: One riot, one ranger. Tonight, the hounds of hell learn that to beat one pack, all you need is one Dog.

When Amber suggests that the gang take a road trip for a little fun, Gray agrees on a spur of the moment. Unfortunately, running out of gas in a small hick town filled with wide-eyed mortals wasn't quite the excitement they were looking for. When a group of hexenwolves start to howl at the moon, Gray finds himself in a party that he wants no part of and flying by the seat of his pants.

Perfect.
- Phase Aspect: Ready, Shoot, Aim (With reflexes like lightning, Gray tends to act on impulse and instinct, and worry about the consequences later. When push comes to shove, Grim will usually get the drop first ... but failing to plan could mean planning to fail.)

Caleb Shaffer
Caleb, in Hebrew, means dog. Shaffer is a surname I chose from a list of Mormon names that were of notable individuals around the time of the Mormon Exodus to Utah.

High Concept: Dog in the Vineyard (or Gunslinging Mormon Champion of Faith)
Deep in the unsettled, wild part of Utah, a secret organization from the days of the Mormon Exodus to that state still lingers. Staying apart from the Modern Church of Latter Day Saints, this group still pursues its original purpose (or at least one of its original purposes) even in the face of an increasingly skeptical modern world: protecting the faithful and innocent gentiles alike from the supernatural. It's full true name is The Order Set Apart to the Preservation of Life, but in short they are called "God's Watchdogs" or "The Dogs in the Vineyard."

Walking into the city with nothing but the clothes on his back and an ancient revolver, Caleb is among the last of these, blessed with the power of great Faith. He has been divinely inspired to head out from the wilds, for something great and terrible is about to happen in the great city, and the gentiles will need help to overcome it. Caleb goes to spread the faith, protect the innocent, and punish the wicked.

Although rustic, and a little backward, Caleb is actually plenty well acquainted with the modern world and decently educated. He doesn't rely on it often, but he won't be mystified by cars and microwaves. His lifestyle is more ascetic than deprived. At the Temple of the Dogs, he learned a myriad assortment of skills, lore, and doctrine, all to prepare him for what he might need to do and what he might encounter out there. He was notably accomplished with firearms, and was granted a relic of the Temple in recognition of his skill and divine calling.

But Caleb has more than powder and steel to call upon in his fight against the wicked night. His belief in the power of the King of Life is strong enough to perform true miracles.

(A note: Mormonism does not work this way. This is (and is intended to be) a fictionalization based loosely upon it (or rather, Dogs in the Vineyard based itself loosely of of early Mormonism)).

Trouble: A Stray in the City (or Different People, Different Ideas)
Caleb has gone from living in some of the sparest populated regions of the country to a big city, with glitz and glamor all around him. That is a big enough culture shock on its own, but now Caleb is immersed in societies and cultures alien to him. He has gone from living among his fellows to being amongst people who have almost nothing in common with him. He is a little lonely and homesick, and often the differences between his ways and the ways of those around him cause strife. Sometimes he despairs of ever achieving his purpose; how can such strange and bizarre people be helped?

Background: Runt of the Litter
Born in the wilds of unsettled Utah, one of the least populated regions in the country, Caleb was raised by his family in the rugged beauty of the unsettled land. They lived in a remote town, less than 100 souls in all, working and surviving off of the land. The smallest of 5 brothers, Caleb always sought to rise above his brothers and prove himself. He did that the day he was selected to be a dog.

Although an accomplishment, and therefore uplifting, this also humbled him, for when he did achieve distinction, it was by the direct choice of the divine: he realized he owed this to God, and that helped him realize how everything was in God's hand.

Invoke: Survival experience, inspiration to rise above, faith, etc.

Compel: A need to prove himself, self-doubt, etc.

Rising Action: Loose the Dogs of War
The Dogs trained Caleb to be a a protector of the weak, a finder of the lost, a savior of the sinful, and a judge of the wicked. They taught him about the world and what he would face there, and how he would face it: with powder, steel, and holy verse. Caleb took to this well, and soon he was given his coat, the badge of office of a Dog, and let loose. Traveling with other dogs, he worked throughout Utah, fighting the night and spreading the daylight of the Lord's word.

While abroad, Caleb also ran into monsters of the human kind, and here he found his first true struggle. Balancing mercy and justice is a difficult thing even for a wise man. Caleb found that at times he had to let men go even when he wanted nothing more than to put a bullet in their head, and that still eats at him sometimes.

Invoke: Skills, particularly Guns, Conviction, Riding. Displays of Faith, and practical knowledge. Also possibly monster Lore from past encounters. Righteous anger.

Compel: Force mercy and compassion even when filled with anger, and to tempt towards anger and vengeance.

First Adventure: Wolfhound
A small town lies under a cloud of fear. A pack of hexenwolves stalks the fields, taking animals and men alike. Authorities are baffled, and the howls grow louder every night. Many begin to give up hope.

But then, one day, a stranger drifts into town, a wolf corpse over one shoulder. There's a saying: One riot, one ranger. Tonight, the hounds of hell learn that to beat one pack, all you need is one Dog.

Guest Star: Kiss Me Deadly
Aspect: A Gentleman Always Helps A Lady In Distress
Girls tend to be confusing to a young conservative man from a conservative religion, and there can be no more confusing a trial than Amber Ranoue. Pretty, flirtatious, and admirable in intelligence, she's also a servant of the White Council, tied to something either than community, duty, or God. Simultaneously attractive and unsettling, Caleb is quick to answer the call when she and Grim come under the assault of the Whitecourts. He's also quick to try and do more than Grim in that situation.

This aspect is in part about Caleb's love of being the hero. He wants to be known as a good man who helps people, and helping Amber and Grim out is a relatively guilt free way to indulge in that. It's also about Caleb's relationship with Amber and Grim. Caleb is halfway wrapped around Amber's finger and halfway running from her, and thus is sort of kind or trying to be a bigger, better man than Grim. Of course, what she and he makes of Caleb's behavior is another story entirely.

Guest Star Redux: Charming Beasts
Aspect: May My Hand Forget Its Skill
Protecting the innocent is one thing, but sparking a vampire war that might threaten civilian lives is just too much, even if it means the destruction of numerous Red Court monsters. Caleb is very unhappy with Brando and his girlfriend, and is one of the few advocating a peaceful solution to the conflict. He won't let his friends get hurt, but this war doesn't sit well with him.

Caleb is a protector. That is what this is about; Brando and his girlfriend's actions don't protect innocents, they endanger them, and Caleb can't abide by them. In particular, he suspects that the girlfriend might be using Brando for ulterior motives. This aspect is about Caleb's role as a peacekeeper, and his conflict with Brando over his love life.

Phases
Where did you come from?
Brando lived in San Francisco during all of his childhood. He was somewhat spoiled, younger of 4 and the only boy of them. He had a pretty easy life, his father a famous architect, and his mom a good housewife. His sisters also treated him well. A year or so before highschool he met Sara, and they dated until the end of highschool

Thus, it came as some surprise when, their fathers downright disagreed to marriage. And with stupid defiance and stubbornness, Brando, for the first time they knew, challenged then. Along with Sara, he made the decision to run away to Las Vegas. Of course, that had been predicted by his parents, and his father tried to stay in the way. In an act of what they considered utter insanity, he got into a fistfight, and managed to escape. They both worked at small jobs (Salesman for a Best Buy for him, an attendant at Starbucks for her), and that year wasn’t quite as good as he believe it’d be. He conceived going back to home…but after some time, decided against it, and understood that he couldn’t just think of the past like that, not after making a decision that changes everything. His future was more important
Aspect: Good Memories, Bad Memories…Just Memories

Invoke: Move on more easily, not getting angry or desperate over something that has already happened...

Compel: Stop him from acting on vendetta even if it would prove beneficial, make him do the right thing even if it'd create bad memories or destroy a good one

What shaped you?
The life with Sara was becoming boring. They were married for nearly years now and were fighting more than actually living with each other. Possibly not a surprise. But things went better, after some time, they were living happily again. And then one day, went a bit too much crazy. Neither knew whose idea it had been, but at a friend’s party, both got a bit too much alcohol…and during their return home, Sara crashed the car into another. The accident was lethal for nearly everyone involved. Brando, and a young kid and his mother in the other vehicle survived. Barely. The kid died in the hospital. He recovered, and the woman for some reason did not sue him. That changed him. He was now determined to save lifes, to make up for the one he couldn’t. So, he went to college. It was something new, and after studying non-stop for the rest of the year until the time for the tests come, he managed to get into Yale. With the lowest score, but did it

Despite already being there, keeping up was also hard. However, determination managed to make him go through. Among the best of the class even. He immediately went to work on Doctors Without Borders. When he believed there was no way to change even more, life made him see otherwise. There, he met Shaka, a healer. The man seemed to be more respected than him, even if most of the times the people did go to Brando when in need of medical assistance. After some time, he managed to make some friendship with the man. And Shaka, decided, that to pay for everyone he had helped, was going to teach Brando some magic. It seemed madness, but he accepted, trying not to disrespect the man

The training…worked. Surprisingly. Brando was able to shift into animal form, the only spell he was taught. A Liger. Apparently, he had been both, in different points of his life. Thus now, he ended in a cross between both. Brando paid back for this, by teaching the man everything he needed to know, and decided to return to U.S.A
Aspect: Daring, but never Reckless!

Invoke:Stop before things gets too dangerous or suicidal

Compel:Be pulled away from a course of action where there the risks are too high, even if the benefits are also high

What was your first adventure
"Charming Beasts"
After returning to the United States, and finding his family waiting for him, Brando is surprised. Having stayed away from them for around 8 years, he rejoices! They were together again, as they accepted what he did. They all moved to New Cannes, in Virginia to change airs. There, he stayed at their place for six months or so, found a job at one of the best nearby hospitals, and got himself a pretty big apartment. Every day he’d train his shapeshifting, and took some other training, learning some martial arts, and playing sports to keep himself healthy

And then again, after a long time of grieving, another girl caught his eye. Their meeting had been a bit random, he was jogging on the park(at 6 AM) when her chow-chow fiercely attacked his legs and knocked him into the floor. She was Aria, and after that, they spent some time together. As he noticed, she could make him feel better, almost…unnaturally

Thus, it was a shock when the truth appeared. She was a vampire, who could manipulate his emotions. She HAD made him feel better. It made him…furious. He didn’t want to be charmed, to have his life perfect. They spent weeks away from each other. But, he knew, they were both wrong. Wanting his life to be bad? He was just martyrizing himself…And thus, when they came back, Aria introduced him to the true magic world

Secretly, they were breaking the neutrality of the White Court, attacking members of the Red Court and eliminating them quickly. A bit later, he showed her his animal form. It wasn’t until something a bit too disastrous happened however, that he realized how fun was that. The Red Court decided to use one of the only known wizards in the city as the scapegoat. However, before he turns into one of the Red Court, he manages to get a message across, asking for help. Brando, manages to hear it, and despite Aria’s best charms to make him feel otherwise, manages to convince her to go with him to help. As they arrive however, it was too late. A small bloodbath in the building, the wizard now a vampire. It was a rather insane fight, despite Aria’s use of her Hunger and Brando’s prowess in the Liger form, they still are forced to use their minds to the most, thinking of new tricks and taking risks just to stand a chance. It was a nigh-miracle that they won. But to Brando, it was something else. He had felt alive, even good!
And thus, he remembered of everything that Aria told him. How the city was in the supernatural. And he went to help, probably a bit egotistical. It’s good to be in an adventure after all
Aspect: We Hunt!

Invoke:Take action instead of waiting for the enemy to make the first move in certain cases(like people in danger of life)

Compel:Make him act first perhaps a bit too carelessly, manipulating him into a premature action despite now knowing the full story

Okay, looks like everyone had a chance to post their characters, so I'm hoping the OOC is open game :)

Three things -
First, thanks for the opportunity, Frosty! I'm happy to be here and hopefully I don't disappoint anyone in the game. As soon as I'm not up to par, drop me like a bad habit and bring in one of the others - please!

Second, I took a stab at some guest stars. My story was based on another city, so it doesn't lend itself to guest stars from this group as well. However, it looked like everyone else's did! So take a look ... I went with Grim being one of the first people meeting Amber (he'd have an ulterior motive for helping her), and it would lend to the two of them joining forces later.

Next, we could work the Wolfhound story in. Caleb's story obviously doesn't take place in New Cannes, so the guest stars would be on a road trip - it seems VERY plausible to me that Amber could use her wiles to get us all to join in as a part of her aspect development for "Girls just want to have fun." (PS, I wasn't trying to suggest Amber and Grim were an item, necessarily ... moreso that she would blink, and smile and say "Pleeeeeeeease?" Even a harda$$ like Grim would give in :smallwink:).

In Charming Beasts, the story just seems to scream SUPER HERO TEAM-UP! with battling the R/C. Almost anything works, so I went with getting embroiled ... maybe the White Council directs Amber to check into this inter-vamp warfare and she drags along Grim (and Caleb); maybe Caleb sniffs out trouble and tells the others. Just depends on the order of our meetings and team-ups ...

I just through down some ideas we could either flesh out or toss out ... I'm open. I figured this at least provides a starting point to get the juices flowing.

Third, I was looking at a map of Virginia and wondering if Richmond fits the bill for the location of New Cannes? It looks to be a couple of hours from the mountains and has a major river that runs to the ocean. Besides, it does a lot of the work for you if you can use a similar sized city as a template. The other option is to use Roanoke for location - it looks to be in the mountains, but has a river that runs into a lake. I'm just looking at locations to visualize while we play through New Cannes ...

Anyhoo, that's it for now. Thanks for listening!

This group should have a LOT of rp and conflict potential. For example, Grim's sort of selfish "Look out for #1" attitude might come into conflict with Caleb's more traditional soldier-of-god attitude. Amber, being a Warden, may be suspicious of the good doctor having a VAMPIRE as a girlfriend. And of course, the White Court can have lots of fun talking to (and using their psychic powers) on virgin-flirt-a-holic Amber as well.

So here was my take (pulled from my character post for ease). Let me know if any of these work ... or how y'all want to work the cross-over magic.

Game on!

"A little fast for first base, don't you think?" Before the vamp could move, Grim broke the bottle with a flick of his wrist, slashed the would-be rapist's throat, and drove the shards into his stomach. Pulling the girl out of the car, he sprinted safety. Glancing back at her, he grinned his disturbing grin. "Name's Gray. But you can call me Grim."

With that, Grim gained his first ally in a new town ... and a whole mess of enemies.
- Phase Aspect: TBD
(Working on the aspect)

- Phase Aspect: TBD
(Working on the Aspect)
----------------------------------------------------------

Phase Six (Guest Star, Again): "Charming Beasts"
- Starring Brando, with guest stars Grim, Amber and Caleb

Brando and his White Court girlfriend start attacking Red Court vampires. But what happens when the RC calls in support to attack the WC for breaking the truce? Can Brando and his friends intervene before New Cannes becomes a killing ground for a vampire war?

Answering a call from Amber, Grim finds himself embroiled in Vamp Court politics - not the way he wanted to spend his weekend!
- Phase Aspect: TBD
(Still working on the Aspect)

Speaking of where we go and stuff

Brando is obviously, a frequent vision in Saint George's Teaching Hospital (not an original name but...), and at the park, doing some running early in the morning. And frequent goer to the IHOP like Dresden =D (mainly for the milk-shakes)

Also, I though only one character got to Guest Star? (Two in total, for the other 2 phases)

That's for 3-player games. In 4-player games, more guests are allowed.

Also, Dresden favored Burger King.

Well, I didn't realize there were max numbers, which seems a little limiting, without any value to the story. Regardless, what does everyone want to do with guest star roles?

As for places in New Cannes that Grim would know or frequent, hmmm, that's a good question. I think Grim is new to town, so he's basically found three spots: 1) The Healing Place - a homeless shelter that's a good place to sleep when you don't have a home, provides lots of scuttlebutt (some good, some bad), and is frequented by drug users (which limits the amount of vampire targeting); 2) Clark and Teller Pistol and Rifle Range - decent range rates and has the standard local gun fanatics showing off their latest purchases and personal modifications; and 3) Magic, Mysteries and the Metaphysical (usually called M3P by the regulars), a local book shop that tailors to the occult and mystical side of things - the perfect place to research what's out there and how to survive an encounter with things that go bump in the night.

For Faces, we could develop the owner of M3P and C&T range ... or someone who frequents the places quite often. There might even be a homeless person that everyone thinks is crazy, but it's really because he's usually possessed by passing spirits ... it could lend to interesting RP and plot hooks.

I'll get up my guest stars soon. Just a quick question if we tied most our stories together (like Starbin did) would we all share guest stars and such? (Like my phase 4 would be Wolfhound and phase 5 would be Charming Beast?)

As for places to visit:

1) M3P obviously for magic stuff. Wizards have things to buy for spells and such.

2) Library: Always studying and learning more. Even your basic library is bound to have a few useful things (Example: Legends are based on reality so it'd be good for studying strange Fey creatures, etc)

3) Beauty Salon (Gotta get hair done and look sexy for dates :P Sue me. Plus buying things like perfume, shampoo, and other grooming supplies.)

4) Fencing school or a Renaissance/medieval fair. For a few reasons, one it keeps my sword work up. Two if I go with the fair then it's amusing because I can "dress up as a wizard" :P Thus I get the amusement of people trying to figure out how I do those 'tricks'. And viva la corset >:)

That makes the most sense to me ... assuming Frosty is good with that. It's always interesting tying the stories together, trying to get the timing down - if everyone guest stars in everyone else's main stories, it begs the question of who knew who first. I suppose we don't all have to be a guest star in each other's stories, but it links us together more, both RP and logically.

For Grim, Amber's story seemed an easy one to introduce him - I thought of it as being the first meeting between any of us. If you wanted to be a part of the other stories earlier, go for it! I'm easy ... well maybe not as easy as Amber, but easy none-the-less :smalltongue:

Feel free to guest star in each others' advenures however you like, as long as it makes sense.

I feel that there ought to be at leasto ne major museum in New Cannes. It's just not a posh, haughty city without one. Plus, musuems are always good places for history, lore, and sometimes even genuine magical items to appear. Maybe it be run by the Cannes Historical Society, which is a semi-clued-in organization?

How about there is a malaise that always surrounds the museum ("Kinda Creepy for a Museum, isn't it?"). It could be from the number of artifacts that find their way there ... or for the propensity for displays that show case the more brutal sides of history ... or a long standing spell that marks the location as Accorded Neutral Ground (which would make it difficult for those of a supernatural bent to steal anything, which might explain why so many artificats remain untouched).

Maybe, just maybe, the Museum actually sits on a seal for an Old One straight out of Cthulu ("What Lies Beneath"), and the folks that run the Museum are actually members of the Venatori Umbrorum, trying to avoid anyone learning that a gateway to the Outside is underneath the Museum.

Just some ideas ...

starbin: You've still got your old version of the phase three aspect in your sheet. Are you using that same story, just with new guest stars?

Guest Stars: I'm all for every character guest starring in everyone's Phase Three. At the very least, everyone is welcome to be a part of Caleb's Phase Three, and if allowed I'll give Caleb a part in everyone else's.

As a guest star, Caleb is most probably suited for the role of the proverbial cavalry, or as the heavy artillery in a fight. Aside from some wilderness skills, he lacks any investigative abilities, and doesn't have much in the way of social abilities either. He's best at dealing with overt, physical threats. Caleb is more of a defender than a monster hunter, more of a first responder than an investigator.

I think that Cale's Guest Star might need to be altered a little bit. It was originally supposed to be something that happened to him on the way to the city in the east, but if Caleb is going to participate in everyone else's stories which happen there, this story either needs to be first chronologically or needs to be changed to be better suited to New Cannes. I think the later option might be best; I'll get to work on that. So far, I'm thinking either some sort of incident in the "Wild Woods" and mountains to the west of the city (camping trip gone wrong?) or some kind of shootout in a bank.

For Kiss Me Deadly, I think Caleb should be one of the last parts of the story; an ally who shows up to aid in a fight of some kind. Maybe the vampires get together to get some revenge on Grim and Amber, and Caleb plays the role of the cavalry that helps tip the scales in a desperate struggle. Just a thought, though.

For Charming Beasts, Caleb could track down some suspicious stuff in the Wilderness with his Survival, if the conflict spilled out of the city and into the surrounding area. A more conventional use for him would be as muscle and fighting strength, which he can easily provide.

Group Interactions: Caleb is slightly alienated from everyone else. Grim seems a bit selfish and is part weird; Amber is a wizard, and Brando dates a vampire and turns into a animal. They're all the kind of people that make him slightly ill at ease, and the kind of beings Caleb expects to end up on the wrong end of his gun barrel often enough.

This is why I think having established ties to the other group members is important for Caleb. It would be nice for Caleb to have prior experiences with them and already have befriended them and come to trust them, so that his misgivings are mostly a background thing. There will still probably be tension between them, but some degree of trust of one another would be desirable.

Where Caleb goes: He might hang around a shooting range often; gotta practice those skills, after all. Clark and Teller could work for that. He also probably likes to go to the wilderness areas near the city, and hang out at the edges of New Cannes. It reminds him more of home than the city ever could, even if it is still a far cry from the deserts of Utah.

Well, I don't think we have to guest star in everyone's intro, although we could. I had originally left Grim's initial adventure based on his previous city (DC) since it ties in with his background. I figured he was fairly new to the city, and so his first appearance with others will be as a guest star in their adventure. I think we've got enough folks that it still allows for everyone to get their two aspects and press forward.

As for Grim's personality, he's not the kind of guy that grabs a seat first, drinks all the beer, or eats the majority of the pizza ... he's not selfish, he's a survivalist. So, he could very well wait for everyone else to sit, but would put himself in a position to take the seat that can see the whole place (or exit the quickest). He will be as friendly as the rest of the group (always grinning that slightly too-wide grin), but wouldn't think about bolting on the group unless it looked like a complete route. Remember, he thinks he needs allies - there's strength and safety in numbers ... and the more targets the better. He doesn't have to outrun the bear ... :smallwink:

Hopefully that makes sense.

That is still the definition of selfish, and that's nothing necessarily *wrong* with that in a character.

Neon, shouldn't Caleb at least have some Scholarship at Fair or better with regards to religious knowledge? The group would logically come to you for that, since you're like Michael Carpenter with a gun.

I wouldn't say so. Caleb is knowledgeable about his religion, but he's clueless and isolated from religions in general. He's a holy warrior of a particularly reclusive cult in the Utah Desert. It doesn't make sense that he'd know a lot about the religions of the outside world.

Curious ... Neon Knight, did you want to change your intro story, or could you work with my proposal (here (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=12384828&postcount=9) for guest starring? I think you could still do the whole wandering into a little town ... plenty of those around here! Heck, if we use Richmond as a proxy for New Cannes, then Roanoke works well. Just curious ...

Same question to DukeGod, I guess. Major, I PM'd ya.

While the entire group would probably still provide a challenge to him, it's not the same thing as the underliger victory I was going for

Yeah, family stuff is eating into my time.

And I'm still not certain myself. Like I said earlier, it seems to me that the decision to use my existing story or not is dependent on the timing of the others; i.e. what order do they occur in.

I think my character is complete...don't think I missed anything. Let me double check.

Let's see...missing two rote spells, but not making those yet (saving for in character).

And I just gotta toss the aspects in and name them for the group things. Errr that's important.

Edit: Hmmm, had no problem with the one about the road trip. "Come on it'll be fun". That can be drawn on a LOT by the DM as a compel. Then again it might be too close to "girls just wanna have fun"

Damn...not sure what either of the guest star phase aspects could be.

Ok, here's a location and a face. Lemme know if this is a location you like.

Location: Tashir's Tomes
This small, out of the way shop stocks mostly books, although a few other curiosities can be found every now and then. Having mostly old tomes, Mr. Tashir doesn't do a lot of business with the modern, glitzy crowd living in New Cannes nowadays, but historians and those who are Clued-In keep him in business. Those with enough Lore and/or Scholarship might be lucky enough to find some real treasures here in times of need. The building, despite looking somewhat dilapidated from the outside, seems sturdy from the inside, and there's not a lot of wood in the construction. Probably less of a fire hazard that way.

Face: Mr. Tashir
The large, bald man of middle-eastern descent is a person of few words. Often wearing glasses as black as his mustache, he can be an intimidating presence if he wants to. Mr. Tashir is usually curt and professional, and only turns on the menace if someone is causing trouble within his store. The way he moves, people suspect that he wasn't always a civilian, although Mr. Bashir never talks about his past, and won't even say how old he is!

Aspect: Don't ask me where I got my stock.

....not really. My problem is that both of my Guest Stars involve vampire fights; on a combat character who already has a fighting aspect or two, it's rather difficult to come up with aspects that don't overlap.

My problem is that both of my Guest Stars involve vampire fights; on a combat character who already has a fighting aspect or two, it's rather difficult to come up with aspects that don't overlap.

Well, don't focus on the fights, then. Each character's starting adventure was sure to include RP opportunities ... you don't have to focus on the antagonists. For example, maybe your guest star in Amber's story gave Caleb an aspect that focuses on his opinion of her 'flirty' behavior, or one of the others. If he becomes somewhat preachy, then maybe you take 'Saving the world, one tarnished soul at a time' or 'Not holier than thou, but holier than you!' or 'Friends, comrade and degenerates, lend me your ears.' Or maybe he becomes a bit more chivalristic .."Ladies first" ... "Show some respect!" or something like that.

If that doesn't help, at the end of the day just pick a few personality traits you want Caleb to have and build those into your portion of the story. You only need a few lines in the Guest Star section anyhoo.

I'm still blanking on my own aspects, but I was kinda waiting to see if the guest star stories were going to stick.

Frosty, do you want us to just go with two guest stars, whichever those might be? Or do you want us to have three? I guess the beauty of aspects is the more you have, the more RP opportunities, as well as more compels ... so there's probably not much of a balance issue, but I wasn't sure what you wanted across the board.

Edit: still having trouble with a phase 5 aspect.

I moved "Girls just wanna have fun" to phase 4 since the point of that one was "A road trip will be fun!"

I placed the old one of "Won't let me guard down" for phase 3.

Still need a good one for 5, and maybe a better one for 3.

Well, for your guest redux, I'd say go with something that gets to your responsibility as a Warden in a city on the brink of a vampire war ... 'Heavy is the Head' or something, where Amber has to figure out how to stop the bloodshed for the good of the city, even if she hates both sides. Doing the right thing, even when you don't agree ...

You could refer to 'Enemy of my Enemy' or 'War makes Strange Bedfellows' - Amber learns that to win the war, you have to play dirty, so she's willing to risk all-out war in order to weaken both Vampire courts. While the ends may justify the means, can you live with yourself in the morning?

For your initial story, I'm not sure the 'Never let my guard down' meshes well with your flirty, have fun side. One bespeaks of paranoia and mistrust, while the other speaks of a lack of concern for consequences. I think Girls just want to have fun covers the flirting, but nothing more side. While a "Never let them get too close" seems appropriate, it might be too close to the 'want to have fun' aspect. Of course, if your flirtation is more with the team and 'known' entities (white council, friends, etc), then your default for outsiders could still be "Background check Required" or "Just Because I'm paranoid, doesn't mean that vamp isn't out to get me!"

I don't know if that helps, but maybe it will spark your genius. Mine is broken :smallwink:

I like that. Not sure how "War makes strange bedfellows" or "Enemy of my enemy" help. But I'll work to come up with one with that in mind.

Also, never let them get too close works perfectly. It works in a few regards in that it matches for the fact of not letting dangerous things nearby AND also in regards to I'm flirty but not making it serious. Background check required is also good, but I like the Never let them get too close.

Edit: Added a special line to the end of one.

Another location and face.

Location: Decadent Delights
This sinful location has more glitz than a Las Vegas show. Officially a strip club, it really is New Canne's worst-kept secret that this is one of the most popular brothels in town. The girls there are invariable young, pretty, curvy, and very willing. Unlike certain expensive 'gyms' in other cities, this place doesn't even try to pretend to be anything else but a brothel. For the right price, one could get any type and combination of girls there to do almost anything one want. No one tries to shut this place down, and in fact, many of New Canne's more prominent men (including politicians) frequent this place.

Face: Amelia Vasquez
Amelia is a tall, leggy woman of Mexican descent, looking to be in her late twenties. Normally dressed in a too-small tank-top that can barely contain her huge chest, a miniskirt, and 6-inch clear high heels, she certainly doesn't look the part of manager. She appears just as eager as the rest of the girls to service customer, and seems to work especially hard to bring in men that might not usually patron a brothel. She is absolutely shameless, seeming to not mind at all at being called a low-class whore.

Aspect: Vice for a Price.

It's a reference to Psalm 137, verse 5. "If I forget you, Jerusalem, may my right hand forget its skill." It's a sort of oath that expresses those sentiments. If I ever forget my ideals and my calling, I am not worthy of my skill. If anger or frustration ever makes me misuse my hands, then may my hands forget their skill.

EDIT: Also, I like the location.

Sorry, my net is a bit unstable.
Since no one had guest-starred in Grim's story yet, I gave it a try

Guest Star:Alone and Unafraid
Aspect: When all you have is a wereliger form...
Summoned to help by Aria, Brando begins to understand what kind of nightmare the White Court was. They apparently needed this Alexander Drake guy, except they couldn't be the one to get him, but thet were gonna be the ones to get him. It seemed simple though, follow the man around the city. Get him. THAN he entered the Nevernever. Oh great. Aria was no longer with him, trying to deal with some other insanity. Using a bit of of her contacts however he locates a wizard in the town who can open a way for him. But not before he pays the favor by finding some enemy of the wizard. Also in the town. And then in the Nevernever he meets the group he was following about to die. Through the use of cat's paws he manages to help them get out alive (they were his paws and he's a feline. Totally cat's paws) and once the group splits get the man and leave.

This aspect is about how, while Brando is NOT someone very resourceful he finds a way to adapt his resources to the situation. Granted, it's not usually the best course of action, and it definately might end badly, but it gets the job done. Or blows everything up

The fight with the hexenwulfs seems obvious, but I'm trying to fit an aspect to that one(granted, I also have no idea on what aspect I'd go for in Kiss me Deadly either)

Well, the reason no one else was using my adventure was because I figured Grim would have cut ties to his previous life, keeping with the 'stray cat' concept. Plus it made it easy than trying to horsehoe everyone into the each other's backstories.

If you really want to be a part of it, that's fine ... remember that Grim's journey to the Nevernever was about trying to find out about himself, getting ostricized from the Sidhe, and cementing a deep-seated dislike for all things Faerie Court.

That being said, I'm having a hard time following the story ... it's just not clicking, but maybe I need to read it again. No offense, but it feels a little too busy to follow.

Location: Cortisha's Coffee
This small, quaint place is located underground, and is run by a small, pudgy african-american woman who welcomes almost all-comers. The place itself has some strange seating and decorations. The seats are all very low to to ground, and are covered with colorful cushions. The decor involves lots of windchimes and bells, which for some reason often ring and chime even when there are no wind within the shop. Neither the decor nor the seating are as strange as the usual patrons, as this coffee shop is Accorded Neutral Grounds. Minor practictioners come in all the time, and can discuss their business relatively freely, thanks to the privacy offered by this shop being underground.

Face: Cortisha Thompson
Cortisha is a small, plump woman of african-american descent in her 40s. Her smile seems to never leave her face as she greets each and every customer by name, always being warm and friendly. Usually talkative and full of advice to offer, she nonetheless is able to see when someone just wants to be left alone, and is ok with backing off and giving space. Cortisha welcome all with open warms to her small shop, except for those that cause trouble. Most people do not cause trouble after having a taste of her coffee...described as true ambrosia on Earth. People don't want to cause trouble because then they would no longer be able to taste the nectar made by the coffee-mancer.

Aspect: Zone of Peace

Which is why I tried to have Brando work in the background where no ties would be formed. And hopefully he wouldn't even be notice(like a ninja!)

Well, not that I downright want it, but it seemed a fun way to get entangled in more WC Politics while still leaving a humorous tone ("THEY WENT INTO THE NEVERNEVER? HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO KIDNAP HIM NOW?FIND A WIZARD? YOU THINK THAT'S EASY?...(long time after). I turn my back on these guys for one bloody second and they are already being condemned to death. Great! What did Aria say again? If needed help through cat's paws..."

The fact that he's not following at all times but rather ends up kinda meeting at random points of the story must make it confusing XD

Gotcha. I wasn't sure. At the very beginning it was a "what is your character's economic state" IE: Car, house, apartment, etc.

I was merely asking if that was something the GM just felt like doing or if it was in the rulebook.

A note: 1d3-2 generates results the same as a fudge dice: -1, 0, and +1. 4d3-8 is the equivalent of rolling 4 fudge dice. It generates results in a range from -4 to +4. I personally prefer this to rolling 4d6 and then editing in results. I've had some bad experiences with editing posts with rolls in them. Just food for thought, and another rolling option.

1) to be highher profile than the average joe (which can be bad if enemies are after her)
2) to expose a lot of her body

That said, being very risque doesn't carry quite as much social stigma in this town as it does in other places.

Damn...number three is the rough one. The first one is a no problem (understanding the risk). The second it depends, she likes to tease and has no problem teasing but isn't really at "willing to be a stripper." So risque and exposing a lot without being pure nudist is fine with her. (mainly because you lose tease value if you show everything).

Hmm...I think she'd probably try to be a bit careful with three to avoid it as much as possible, but at the same time would still do it. As in, "yes it might happen, but let's try and avoid it as much as we can."

The agency has asked Amber to do topless shoots (to market lingerie), but not nude shoots...yet.

Some girls don't like to tease. They just get straight to the point. Luckily there's room for all types of modeling in this town.

Major
2012-01-21, 05:35 PM
She'd first look for other options, possibly another agency that would accept her essentials being covered as part of a contract, but if not (due to the town unlikely) she'd reluctantly agree but would mostly try to keep it to contracts where it's as skimpy as you can get without any actual naughty parts showing :P

Long story short it isn't something she is UNWILLING to do, just something she prefers not to. (Depending on what you mean by topless. If by the whole type of topless that can be publicly shown where the nipple is blocked by something, hair, etc. Then she'd not really care and would be fine with it. If you mean topless as in BAM here are my full frontal nudity tits, it'd be a last resort.)

Frosty
2012-01-21, 07:53 PM
The agency has asked for entire chest exposed, but in *most* of your shoots, in the final photo your nipples are hidden. And hey, it's good rp in the sense that for example Harry Dresden often complained about his job not paying enough. In your case you're not always complaining about the money but rather about how much you have to expose.

Depending on how long Amber has been in New Cannes, Amber would know that this is pretty common in New Cannes.

"Empty Night" House is Aria's unnoficial name for the White Court Mansion in the town. She doesn't really like her relatives, so the girl tought it'd be a cool idea to nickname it after one of their worst curses =D

Oh I'm fine with it, just wanted clarity. Like you said. RP point, not everyone is happy with their job, but it pays. She wouldn't be thrilled, but job is a job and at least most aren't too bad.

If it's permissible, I'd like to spend a Fate point per Guide My Hand to use Conviction instead of contacts for this roll; if so, the above will have +5 added to it. Otherwise, it stands as is.

I'm sure he would, but it will be fun to tease the guys! Mainly questioning if Grim has used lots of toliet paper lately and also trying to "corrupt" the poor Caleb by slipping pictures into his view and then basically being like "Like what you see?" And if no act all sad and hurt and offended that he thinks I'm ugly. And if he says yes harass him about being a naughty boy!

That being said, I'm ready to press if our doctor doesn't mind making the call. If he does, then someone else can call and pretend to be from the hospital or whatever.

Gonna make the rolls here and you can compare with the intensity.

Stage 1: Open the sight (see in character thread)

Stage 2: Understand what I see
Lore vs Intensity
Lore: [roll0] +4= 1 (Doubt I understand whatever metaphor you make :( )

Stage 3: Defending against the Intensity
Discipline to defend: [roll1] +5= 3 (Ouch...could be worse, but owww...)

Amber only plans on keeping it open for the exchange it takes to look at the lady. Assuming I win the defense she will close it.

Stage 4: Close the Sight (Assuming I win the mental battle). If I lose the defense then let me know and we can fight another mental battle to try and close it next exchange :P

Neon Knight

This actually brings a question to my mind that always comes up when there's a Wizard in the group: has Amber looked at any of the other group members through The Sight yet?

Major
2012-02-03, 04:32 PM
That's a damn good point. I'd say she hasn't done the...what's it called? Soul gaze? Due to the fact of "Don't let them get too close."

But the Sight is one way...hmmmm probably, should I do rolls for each so I know what I knew from the backstory?

Frosty

Defense against the Sight: [roll0] + 3 (Intensity) = 2

Amber succcessfully defends, and may close the Sight.

Caleb actually would want to inform the police of what he saw, if only anonymously. Of course, being Caleb, it is entirely possible he left one or two obvious clues that could be used to track him down. And he'll readily admit to the woman that he did inform them, giving them another trail if they really want to hunt him down. It is alright to go ahead and assert that Caleb called the police at some point to inform them?

Also, what is the exact timing of Caleb's vision in relation to the events he saw in it? I've been assuming that what Caleb saw was in the past, rather than something happening concurrent with his seeing it.

Frosty
2012-02-08, 12:08 PM
Yeah. He saw past visions. Caleb should say what Caleb is comfortable with. I mean, if you send a note anonymously to the police, it kind of gets thrown in with the rest of the tips and leads. Do you know how many anonymous tips police get?

When you all think about this, you realize that out of everyone, the most charismatic is actually the Warden. Also, if you wanted to use any tracking spell, it might be a good idea to try to find something Priscilla actually carried around. Grim knows of the bar, the Wet Clam. He hasn't been there in about a year, since the change in ownership. Grim knows that it's a pretty rough place. Best go in there in force, as a group, just in case.

Amber has a Great Presence and a Fair Rapport. Unless you plan to BEAT the information out of the people there, she's probably your best bet. If asking men, she migth be able to Invoke one of her aspects for a +2 on the Rapport roll.

Oh, Frosty, don't go bringing logic into this! It's much funnier when the players try to use skills they aren't very good at in delicate situations, and inappropriately leverage the wrong folks for the wrong tasks at the wrong times!

Justification: She is ALWAYS looking for guys to pick up. Clearly this means she is used to it and as such bam.

I am using one of my two fate points >.>

-----------
If you as the GM approve of my justification take one fate point and here are my rerolls

[roll0] +3

Edit: Alright! I got a +3 if you accept it

Edit2:

ACTUALLY...Can we keep the -1 and make it a gay bar? That would be hilarious from an RP sense. "Hey guys, bet I can attract all the men!" *runs in and tries to be sexy before the party tells her its a gay bar*

Frosty

It is, as you will see soon, not a gay bar.

Now, normally, a re-roll using that aspect would be perfectly acceptable, BUT...due to the circumstances and customs of this particular bar, what happens would make much more sense if you actually retained your initial total of -1. Would you accept that?

Ref the question about smelling - I see Grim as having really good senses (hence the Awareness 5), so in general better than a human. But as it pertains to smelling, it's not like super scent (i.e., a werewolf, or animal-man, or anything crazy like that). So I'm guessing his ability to detect smells is reflected in his high awareness, but he's not going to be able to track a dude by scent (unless there's something very obvious, like a strong perfume, cloves, gasoline, etc).

Each spell has a different range that you should discuss with me. For the sleep spell, I'd say you need to see the target clearly, so you can use it from up to one zone away.

Type: Spirit Evocation, Offensive Attack
Power: 7 shifts
Control: Auto-succeed with focus item. Unusable without glove.
Target: One target within line of sight

So if that has a one zone range...does that mean I can move one zone then blast him? Because...well, I'll let Amber explain her change of heart in character.

Yes, if you move one zone as a Supplemental action, you can still cast your Spell, albeit at a -1 on the Discipline roll is aim the spell.

What are the chains that are holding the girl made out of? Look like they'd be easy to shoot off, where they connect to the floor?

For DukeGod, I think I get your meaning, but if those chains are steel / iron, then I won't be doing anything with them.

So, you guys decode whatever he means by body language and if it goes wrong it might still get fun as hell =D

Well, I guess it depends on whether I got that extra refresh point for tagging my own aspect of "Ready, Shoot, Aim" ... I asked about that when we first started, and mentioned it again in the firing post, but wasn't sure if it actually netted me anything.

That being said, I would would definitely use the freebie to tag the "Flat on his a$$" aspect (which I should be able to do, right?). As for the damage, I'm using a Glock 10, but I don't know what that equates to equipment-wise. All I remember was that folks with weapons or guns are assumed to have a weapon or gun (within reason).

Frosty
2012-05-25, 03:42 PM
I will be gone likely for the next 3 days.

As for the damage roll, your attack roll IS the damage roll, so you can spend FP after the fact to increase your damage further by 2 if you want, invoking a relevant Aspect.

Starbin
2012-05-25, 04:26 PM
Copy, then Grim will use the refresh point for +2 dam (total 8, I guess). "Groin shot".

Frosty
2012-05-27, 06:51 PM
Umm, I don't see a "Groin Shot" aspect on your character sheet. There is only a "Flat on his ass" aspect on the ghoul because Brando *created* it. You can't just make up an aspect and tben invoke it.

However, "What the Luck" might be able to fit, and I'll let you use it as justification to get "good luck" once in a while if you're doing something important.

Ok, so your total is a +8. The Ghoul's total defense roll is +6. The difference of 2 is the damage you do befroe facotring in weapon strength and armor. The pistol is a Weapon: 1 weapon, and the ghoul appears to have no armor, supernatural or otherwise, so that comes up to a 2 + 1 = 3 stress hit. Since the Ghoul has already filled in his 3rd stress box, he *can* instead fills in his 4th stress box (leaving his 1st and 2nd still available), or he can take a minor physical consequence to drop the damage by 2 to a 1 stress hit.

In this case, the Ghoul will take a minor physical consequence of "Shot in the Groin, OUCH!" Because you created it, you even get a Free Tag on it (which you can pass on to someone else if you want). And remember, in subsequent rounds, unless the Ghoul successfully gets up, "Flat on his Ass" continues to stick for a while, and you can spend Fate Points to gain an advanrage (basically compelling the Ghoul).

Note that because you *compelled* the Ghoul's (even though the cost was free) *aspect* of "Flat on his Ass" (it doesn't matter that it's temporary), the Ghoul gets a Fate Point. Every time you compel someone else's aspect, that's a Fate Point given to that person.

Starbin
2012-05-29, 07:05 PM
Well, classic example of me not understanding the rules and it coming across garbled via post. I was trying to figure out how I added damage, so the "Shot in the Groin" was my attempt to explain it ... hence why I added a roll, just in case I needed to 'add' the aspect to the ghoul. I apparently dorked that up, so pressing on ...

One more question ... you mentioned in OOC post 183 that most pistols are Weapon: 2 ... so is the Glock only a Weapon 1, or was that a typo?

Thanks for your patience!

Few questions:
- I was trying to follow the whole spell vs 'perception' ... so was it the total from the spell (+7) vs the mom's investigation (+5)? Or did she get a +3 modifier, making the mom's total of 8? Bad luck on our part in her rolling almost the maximum amount possible!

- Brando's still in big kitty form, right?

- @Amber, you could always tag Mega-Ultra Tired from your spell, right? That should have an impact on whether Doreen noted the badge, or maybe what she thinks about all of this ... Does it cost a point to tag, or is it automatic for Amber?

I guess that's it for now ... sorry I didn't respond earlier, but weekend's usually equal family time

Frosty
2012-06-04, 07:52 PM
The mega tired is going to wear off soon, since a number of exchanges has gone by already. Use it soon! Amber can tag it once for free to make it harder for Doreen to see carefully, making the difficulty go up by 2. Doreen would still make it though.

Starbin, here's how it works. Amber put 6 shifts of power into the spell. 3 goes to create the base object. The other 3 goes towards making it *better* so that it's harder for someone to pierce the illusion. That's why Doreen needed a 3 or better to see past the illusion. She got a 5 total, so even with the Mega Tired compelled against her, she would see past the illusion.

And yes, Brando is still in kitty form, obviously NOT a canine :smallwink:

Oh! I forgot about that tag that I nailed her with earlier. That's a good point. I should be able to tag free since I placed it on her, but I got 2 fate points either way.

And that was my fault for missing the complexity. I only put in 6 shifts because I figured with a max of +5 she'd have to roll well assuming she had +5. I forgot complexity raised it, but whatevs.

If I understood she got a +5 vs my +3, so tagging an aspect should help if it isn't too late. *goes to post in ic thread*

Edit: Just checked, unless it's too late since I forgot about the aspect then yes I should get one free tag for a +2 which would be +5 vs +5. What happens with a tie?

Frosty
2012-06-04, 08:14 PM
In a tie, the "attacker" usually has the advantage. In this case, you've created a block, and Doreen is the "attacker" trying to pierce the veil, so she wins the tie.

You dont actually get to talk to animals. You can achieve an instinctual understanding with beasts of a similar nature. In your case, to predator-cats like Lions, Tigers, Pumas, etc (but not to housecats). Also, why would a Grimalkin-Scion be able to understand cat-speak anyways?

(For a note, my first plan involved roaring, tackling Grim, kidnapping Amber and getting away, making it so that his Liger form took the blame for the deaths. Than he'd call Grim and tell him to act as if he was hired as security, so he'd have a believable reason to be there. Also wrecking some mayhem in the nearby houses to make sure everyone got the message that there was a crazy beast loose)

If you all leave and he gets here, he's entering a crime scene and then there might be all sorts of confusion if the police happen to show up around that time seeing him all alone in the house. On the other hand, Amber probably wants to keep the corpses for...study? Or at least for someone else to study?

I think this is prime opportunity for a Social conflict, where you all try to convince the police that you are all innocent bystanders.

OR...

Option B: Call Aria. Right...the hell...NOW. The WC has bound to have a lot of pull in this city. Since this is at least partially a WC mess, you may be be able to (via probably a social conflict) to convince her or other local WC leadership into interceding and making sure that everything is "tidied up" by the time the police arrive.

*growls* Well Amber would be against B, so that'll be up to anyone in favor of that plan to try and convince her. But with a burned down warehouse, a new warden, and a dislike for vampires that might be tricky.

Ugh...I'm leaning towards option A, but either way the girls body needs to come with us which means running off as the Liger form with the girl's body at a minimum. Maybe some picture or something as "proof". A blurry, dark pic, but still.

Soo, I was looking at my Aspects and stuff and started to consider chanigng some of them

For starters, the only truly defined one is that i'df like to swap my Trouble from "My girlfriend is a succubus" to something more along the lines of "Fearless as a Fool, Careless as a Cat". I think a protagonist's Trouble shouldn't have involve someone else. Additionally, I'm guessing that Brie is gonna try to invoke my trouble on this meeting so I didn't want to change it to something that would make her unable to do so. Invoking that might get him confident to actually try the stupidity of trying to date 2 vampire girls at the same time

The reason why did accept to date Aria even after knowing everything about her after all was that he had confidence he could take it despite knowing full well he had been easily fooled before and was almost addicted to it.

I'm possibly gonna remove "Daring but never Reckless" because as said before it sortof cancels "We Hunt". I'm not sure as to what, maybe something like "Do no harm(to most)"

That and add my guest apperance into Amber's story which I swear I tought I had already done >.<
