On the Thrones:
Ashelon keeps the White-gold Bastion on the peak of Mount Celestia, guarding the Realms against the wicked. He teaches the importance of justice, how honest labor and vigilance must be rewarded, but wickedness punished. Despite its name, Bladebalm can be applied to any weapon. This alchemical substance temporarily adds an enhancement effect to any weapon its applied to. The balm lasts for 24 hours. There are many variants of the balm, capable of adding any enhancement and special ability to a weapon.

Faithful Blade
Prerequisites: Paladin level 1, Smite Evil class feature, Soul Knife level 1
Benefits: Your Paladin and Soulknife levels stack for the purposes of determining the bonuses the Soulknife gets on her Mind Blade. The levels also stack for the purposes of determing the damage of Smite Evil, although it does not affect uses per day of Smite Evil. In addition, all Blade Skill effects are determined by Charisma, not Wisdom.

At 10 HD, the feats Improved Grapple, Trip, etc., increase their bonus to +4. At 10 HD, the feats Greater Grapple, Trip, etc., increase their bonus to +4.

Great Fortitude [Combat]
Prerequisite: None
Benefit: You get a +2 bonus on all Fortitude saving throws. In addition, You gain a +4 bonus on the following checks and saves: Swim checks made to resist nonlethal damage, Constitution checks made to continue running, Constitution checks made to avoid nonlethal damage from a forced march, Constitution checks made to hold your breath, Constitution checks made to avoid nonlethal damage from starvation or thirst, Fortitude saves made to avoid nonlethal damage from hot or cold environments, and Fortitude saves made to resist damage from suffocation. Also, you may sleep in light or medium armor without becoming fatigued.

Lighting Reflexes [Combat]
Prerequisite: None
Benefit: You get a +2 bonus on all Reflex saving throws. In addition During your action, you designate an opponent and receive a +1 dodge bonus to Armor Class against attacks from that opponent. You can select a new opponent on any action.

A condition that makes you lose your Dexterity bonus to Armor Class (if any) also makes you lose dodge bonuses. Also, dodge bonuses stack with each other, unlike most other types of bonuses. The bonus from this feat increases by 1 for every 4th base attack bonus.

Deep Stubbornness [Combat]
You gain a +2 bonus on all will saves and checks to withstand intimidation. Similarly, all diplomacy DCs are increased by 2 when applied to you. Also, gain a +3 bonus on concentration checks.
Special: This feat count as Iron Will and Skill Focus(concentration) for purposes of prerequisites.

People are stupid (but a person might be decent)
The opening of the portals to the lower planes caused many, many deaths, including those of Karrin's parents. Karrin was, at the time, a naive, but not quite clueless, young teen. The demonic invasion caused much chaos and confusion, and most people did not make it to safety behind the walls of the most well-defended positions on the material plane. When Karrin's parents were killed, Karrin herself almost didn't make it, but someone saved her life. Karrin's savior, an elf named Liriam, described herself as a religious warrior, one that had clung onto tradition despite the popularity and prevalence of arcane powe. In a world that didn't make sense anymore, Liriam is an oasis of cool, reason, and relative safety.

Someone made a clerical error and I am a paladin. (I'm not nearly saintly enough for paladinhood)
Karrin, angry at the world for being so stupid and getting her parents killed, didn't want to lift a finger to help, even though it was precisely becuase of Liriam's selfless act that saved Karrin's life. Eventually, Liriam coaxed Karrin into paladin training, so that Karrin may also help others, but there were barely any weeks in which Karrin mentions about letting the "worthless, prideful maggots" lay in the bed they made themselves.

The building was on fire, and it wasn't my fault. (it couldn't be helped!)
Even when Karrin does try to help ut, sometimes her lack of planning and foresight puts her in situations in which collateral damage occur, like when she parried aside a devil's arm, and the beam of fire hit the building behind her instead. She tries her best, but her impulsive nature and her anger (that she tries to channel constructively) means that things often get messy.

There's a fine line between audacity and idiocy. (but there are things you can't walk away from. Not if you want to live with yourself afterward.)

One of the last things Liriam managed to instill in Karrin is the true meaning of courage. It's idiocy or even a form of cowardice if you do something suicidal for the wrong reasons. It's true courage if you do something suicidal becuase it was the Right Thing to do. Liriam demonstrated that by taking on 10 Bearded Devils by herself. She slowed them down enough for Karrin to get some villagers into a fortified area, and slew 6 of those Barbazus before dying valiantly.

From that moment on, Karrin is the last paladin. While she learned the lessosn Liriam tried to teach, Karrin's cynicism for those around her (hey, after all, if they were faster, Liriam wouldn't have needed to sacrifice herself) and her imperfect emotional control means that this last protector is a very flawed one. May the Three Thrones help the material plane. It'll need it.

Progress on the Sword of Retribution:
Having investigated Cabathad, it turns out some intelligence, hive-minded insectoid creatures known to Talyn as "psychanuans" had basically taken over the city 50 years ago via mind-controlling parts of the populace. They used the humans to breed, Aliens style. The sword's hilt was found, but the blade is missing.

In the year 312 of the Time of Kings, The Order of Illuminators, under the leadership of Solaire Whiteflame, did battle with the great Marilith Demon Xi'phen'ix'nef. During the battle, Solaire thrust the Sword of Retribution deep into the breast of the demon. However, the demon slew Solaire, and the sword broke. Its blade remains embedded within the demon's breast. The rest of the order lacked the strength to destroy her, and could only seal her back in her prison.

The demon must be destroyed to restore the Sword.

The final battle took place in somewhere named Teelmuatn, but no one knows where that is. The party also rescued a girl with psychic powers named Contessa. Her father, Talyn, is dedicated to wiping out the psychanuans, and has left Contessa in Karrin's care.
Retrieve the Lance of Fate from the elves, who reside behind their Spirit Fence. The gate to the Spirit Fence is the city of Vitharn
Retrieve the Heart of the Beloved, buried with Meridous. The burial site is unknown

Major Goal #2: [Done?] Cleanse away the influence of Ns'karra the demon. She has now been slain, however, part of the influence may remain in terms of sexual attitude?

Major Goal #3: [Done] Revive Lyanna with Ultimate Mercy

Major Goal #4: Find a way to awaken the celestial being trapped inside the Pillar of Aversion under Azkard. Destroy the Crucidaemon that emerged.
The architect of the Pillar had acquired the celestial somehow and used it as a power source for the Pillar. The Pillar's protective radius can be expanded to 30 miles outside the city by activating Phase 2, but that would consume the celestial.

Karrin has asked the dwarves of Azkard to study the Pillar to try to find a way to awaken the celestial without deactivating the pillar.

However, The Pillar apparently is powered via torturing the victim inside. The celestial...FORMER celestial...having been trapped in there for who knows how long...has fully gone insane and transformed into a Crucidaemon, bloody representations of death by traps or torture. It is now on the loose.

Major Goal #5: [Done] Rescue Mirabell near Goldharbor Mirabell has been missing, gone off by herself, ever since the assault on the devil secret base. Recent intelligence from the vision received from the Thrones indicates that Mirabell has been captured by the Crucidaemon somehow and is being held somewhere near the ruins of Goldharbor. It will take too long to travel to the south so Goldharbor via conventional means and routes, so it will be necessary to find an elven outpost in order to use the teleportation stones to fast-travel to an elven outpost near Goldharbor.

[Done] Step 1: Travel to Dragonsroot and find the abandoned elven outpost there. Use it to transport to Goldharbor.

[Done] Step 2: Gain the help of the local gripplis o be guided to Goldharbor.

[Done] Step 3: Find Mirabell, and defeat the daemons in the area.

[Done] Step 4: Evacuate the Gripplis from their village to the waystone while surviving the Crucidaemon.

[Done] Step 5: With the waystone misaligned and some of her her friends missing, Karrin must follow and rescue them.
[Done] Step 1: Find out where her friends are. They were held captive by the serpentfolk.

[Done] Step 2: Maintain relative freedom while figuring out a plan to free her friends. This was done by volunteering to fight the serpentfolk's enemy, the duergar.

[Done] Step 3: Impress the duergar enough to convince them to let Karrin defect to their side.

[Done] Step 4: Working with the duergar, attack the serpentfolk and rescue her friends.

[Done] Step 5: Track down her remaining missing friends, who were taken by the aboleths and illithids.

[Done] Step 6: Rescue her remaining friends, and attempt to start an Illithid (named Nomen by Karrin) on the road to reform.
[Done] Step 6: Lead her friends and the gripplis (and their leader, Sees-Great-Distance) safely back to Whiteveil.

Major Goal #6: [Done] Face Harbinger for the first time
Karrin was leading the gripplis and was almost back to Whiteveil when Harbinger attacked. Karrin faced Harbinger alone, buying time for her friends to escape, but disintegrated in battle. Her soul was kidnapped into Hell, where she had to endure countless torture. She met a unqiue devil-queen named Lilliel there, who is a fallen celestial. She was a part of the Thrones, until Oralius replaced her. Eventually heaven's forces rescued Karrin's soul and she was in Celestia, where she belonged...or was it? Shortly after meeting Liriam in Celestia, Karrin learned that Harbinger was about to conquer Whiteveil, and thanks to the combined energies of those that believed in her and worshipped her in Whiteveil, Karrin's soul was able to cross the divide and the paladin returned to life! Not just to life, but in super-saiyan mode no less! Karrin single-handedly defeated Harbinger and send the Pit Fiend running, and then collapsed. When she woke up, she was bac to her normal self (sort of. She gained some Divine powers), but with very little recollections of what happened during her time dead.

1. Destroy undead orc Gorgeroth and his army of undead near the ruins of Dawnspire

2. Retrieve the sword Moonshimmer for the ghost of General Celairon Dryearurdrenn, who resides under Fort Lindekaima

There is an outpost to the west of Azkard, near Dragonsroost, where it is rumored that the elves had a garden with silverwood trees growing. It was abandoned by the elves when they retreated behind their Spirit Fence.

4. Find out what happened to Liriam's fellow paladins that got corrupted, including Essex and Melliaus. Melliaus was mentioned to have ambition, and perhaps that led to the corruption of the paladins?

5. [Done] Free the goblins from Durblinger's tribe from slavery. King Bluddshank, a hobgoblin, rules over the area with an iron fist. The goal is to cause unrest within his support. Bluddshank is dead, as is the Immolator's Salamander. Grembler has stayed to help guide the goblins and hobgoblin to coexistence.

Important knowledge about places and empires
The Pryvirian Empire was founded by the El¨xor Dynasty 400 years ago at the end of the Time of Dragons. The El¨xors were, or perhaps are, recognized as the most powerful sorcerer lineage in all humankind. All Pryvirian nobles were humans with sorcerous heritage; the degree of which determining social rank. Not all noble families are directly related to the El¨xors; some were given titles as the reward for notable deeds on the behalf of the empire. Ruled from the capital of Dawnspire, it reached from Dragonsroost in the west to Stronghaven in the east.

Azkard has three major clans: Dunthal, Knarlad, and Hlaarkan. Currently, the matriarch is from clan Hlaarkan after Khouros of Knarlad was exposed to have been under devil influence, unbeknownst to him. The devil had resided in an enchanted warhammer that has since been destroyed.

I just realized I need to make a slight retcon that may affect your plan. I noted earlier that it was cold enough to snow in the evening. I'm changing the river to a hot spring, but it is only about 40 degrees F on the road. Do you want to change your plan? It won't kill you, but it won't be pleasant.

This can be good as well. If she can come back with a few real battle scars, her oratory will be that much more convincing.

If Vul uses his breath attack, can it conveniently destroy the extra sets of clothing? It is not necessary but will make even stronger Karrin's strategy of using fear and concern to motivate the inn's residents. This way, she doesn't even have to say that their nudity is part of a simulation, because the two women actually lost their clothing.

Very good so far! I'm glad Mirabell has been game to go along with Karrin's decidedly non-traditional strategies. I hope you'll continue to allow Karrin use whatever assets she has to accomplish her objectives (doing good). I see a lot of potential with Garm. He appeals to Karrin in the "practical, whatever gets results" way. Granted, that's not the paladin way, but it certainly appeals a lot to Karrin, and Karrin may be skirting the line a lot. I hope there's a lot of interaction between Garm and Karrin. I hope Mirabell hasn't regretted travelling with Karrin. What has been her reactions about what happened at the inn?

As for how long, probably wait 5 days, and of course if need be, try to forage/hunt.

Mirabelle's reactions so far have been, mixed. She's willing to stick with you mostly because she doesn't have any idea of what else to do. She also feels indebted to you for saving her from the goblins, and helping her go after Gorgeroth. She's willing to do almost anything if she thinks it will help people, but was obviously quite uncomfortable about the whole debacle at the spring.

Garm on the other hand is definitely not the type to look out for others. He's also pretty much a pathological loner, so Karrin will have to be convincing to keep him around. There's also the manner of his uncontrollable rage. If you can get around those two obstacles, I imagine he could be quite the ally.

Under the circumstances, you have a bit more leeway than the average paladin; I think you've figured that out.

We don't have to roleplay all the details out, but sometime during the next few days of watching the fort, Karrin would like to talk to Mirabell about Mirabell's youth and background. Karrin finds it slightly amusing that a rugged country girl seems more...uncomfortable and uptight about her own body compared to a paladin, even if Karrin is a paladin with a LOT of leeway.

when she has time, she also asks Garm about what Garm really wants in life, besides cracking heads.

Since I've just posted the next step, I'll fill you in on what you uncovered during the past few days. Keep in mind, this is based on your current relations with the characters.

You find out that Mirabelle was an orphan who never knew the name of her family. The village she grew up in was quite strict and puritanical; it was dominated by a Throne sect which believed the fiends were the wrath of the gods for punishment of mortal pride and transgressions.

She was raised under the care of a spinster who was a candle maker. The woman was a shrill harpy who poorly treated Mirabelle, almost like a slave. She was never fully welcomed in the community, and expected to live and die on her own. Then the orcs attacked, and everyone she knew was dead. You have a sense that she doesn't really miss them, but not why she pursues Gorgeroth so fervently.

Garm is not very open with you. His answer to your inquiry is, "Eat the next meal, kill the next foe, and live to see the next sunrise. There is nothing more." You do note he seems quite sufficient at living off the land.

Was one of them within Charging range? If so, try to kill one first. Thin out the herd. Basica strategy is to fight and movre at the same time, and try to not let the orcs get a good surround on Karrin and Garm.

Is the capital 'O' the big orc? If so, will Smite Evil and charge that one first.

Alright, you collect the rope.

Light grey squares have small amounts of rubble in them. They provide light concealment and count as difficult terrain. Dark grey squares provide full concealment, and require a Climb check to move on.

If you are thinking about giving out treasure, take into consideration that I want Karrint oe ventaully get a set of Adamantine plate mail. I don;t know the rules for piecemeal armor, but I guess Karrin can collect a set of full plate like that.

Or, if you want to consider a stronger-than-usual-mount as treasure, I'd also like karrint o eventually work towards a unicorn as her special mount.

I made a slight error, but one that doesn't really affect anything. The skill I should have used is Escape Artist, but your mod is the same. So no, you don't benefit from the rope. Sorry for the confusion.

To be fair, you haven't given Lyanna a lot of time to think; she's not used this level of stress. She does, however, have some alchemical grease that will give you enough of a boost to get through.

If it helps, remember that a Special Mount is not like normal Animal Companions. These mounts have 6 int, so they can be roleplayed as simple-minded people really. In fact, I'll be teaching my mount to read and write (albeit slowly, with hooves, in the sand/mud)

Query: I'm statting out the horse right now. You described it as having heavy barding. Does that mean it already spent its 3 feats on armor proficiencies? Also, what is that barding equivalent to in terms of armor? I was hoping to actually give my horse the Track feat, pump Survival, and let it use Scent to help track down Mirabell.

For Trombe, I decided to let it have Track, Combat Reflexes and Bodyguard feats. Bodyguard is from the APG, and I'm sure it'll come in handy lots to help Karrin survive.

Is there a map for this new fight vs the goat demons? Also, are the goat demons medium sized? If so, Karrin gets a +1 bonus for being mounted and attacking a creature smaller than her mount.

Also, remember that if Trombe has any AoOs left, he can spend one to give Karrin (or any adjacent creature) +2 AC vs one attack (subject to all the restrictions specified in the Aid Another action of course)

Depends on whether Trombe feels that his bites and kicks are being negated by Damage Resistance, but for now, use up his 3 AoOs first come first serve. In other words, if there's a chance to kick an enemy, do it. if there's a chance to give Karrin +2 AC, do it.

This is why I've been asking in the posts whether Karrin feels any sort of DR or not. I didn't see this post before I did the full-attack, oh well. Trombe probably does next to no damage.

And umm...Karrin can do some damage, assuming those enemies have DR/Good. Does the knowledge check reveal that? If Karrin can't bypass that DR, then she's forced to do mounted charging for any real damage.

Guess next round will move away and then cast Bless Weapon sigh.

One of the reasons why they're doing so well is that they work together, and they have weapons that can be braced against the charge. Plus they seem to really like targetting the horse horse. They're really smart, and this is a very dangerous encounter for Karrin right now. But, I will find a way to persevere :smallsmile:

Hmm, I wonder how inter-species attraction and standards of beauty work. I didn't figure that a goblin would find a human attractive. But, Karrin really isn't the specie-ist type, so she doesn't have a negative gut reaction to this.

As far as the romance is concerned, it was really something I started thinking about the first time they went to Crossroads Inn, but I kind of winged how she would start romancing Mira. I just thought about Karrin's personality and insecurities and hopes and dreams, and it came naturally.

As far as making friends with all sorts of strange creature, that was all planned. Karrin knows she needs allies.

Maquise, this is an important point in the story where we need to take a small pause and discuss the direction we want to take. Maybe even metagame a little bit.

Taking in a demonic co-pilot in Karrin's head to save Mira would be a self-sacrificing thing to do. It's kinda like at the end of Diablo 1 how the hero decided to contain Diablo within his own body. It makes for GREAT story narrative if it means the next story arc or three becomes all about Karrin dealing with this evil influence in her head, struggling to keep her sanity and struggling to either maintain control of her own body or to prevent her own personality from being changed to evil. Superb roleplaying opportunities.

This all assumes that inviting in a demon isn't an Evil act that's going to make Karrin either insta-Fall or that the demon isn't going to auto-win and have control of Karrin, making her effectively an NPC now. How do we want to proceed? How does this possession thing work? Karrin might not know in-character, but we should discuss this OOC.

I will admit it, this caught me completely flat-footed. I did not see this coming, having pretty much winged the whole babau encounter.

This decision would have lasting consequences. The first thing to note is that a fiend who enters at the consent of the host is much more difficult to remove. The largest consequence would likely be driving a wedge between Karrin and her gods. I don't necessarily mean falling, but their help, should it come in other forms, may not be accessible. A more immediate result would be Karrin's relationships with her companions. Remember there are three people currently in the room. I believe a pertinent quote would be:

As I continue with this game, I start to see things I wish I would have done differently. I have a retcon I am considering.

Since Lyanna gets such piddly damage as it is (especially vs fiends), I'm considering giving her a quarterstaff instead, along with a few tricks to go with it. I'd run her more with using combat maneuvers to hinder opponents (tripping, disarm, etc.) and aiding others. I would also house rule the quarterstaff to having the trip feature, since IMO it should anyway.

Your opinion?

Lyanna should be sattted organically. In other words, how did she survive all this time before she joined up with the party? The skills and feats that allowed her to do that should be what she has. If that involves quarterstaffs and tripping, then so be it (I can totally see it. She trips some enemies and RUNS while grabbing the treasure, Indiana Jones style).

If the Archeologist gets some bonuses on Disable Device, perhaps you can have her start crafting and using Traps in combat, like the Combat Trapsmith of 3.5. If she's really good at IDing enemies and recalling lore, she might use it somehow to grant an edge to herself or to her party in fighting those enemies? 3.5 had the feat Knowledge Devotion in the Complete Champion book which is totally up this allie.

To be honest, we might just use the Factotum class from 3.5 for Lyanna. She looks a great fit. It screams Archeologist definitely.

The setting is great. I love how much detail you put into everything, both the setting and the dungeons. The combat is fun, although slightly repetitive since I don't have much in the way of comat maneuvers. This combat has been very unique however and I do like it. Forcing Karrin to really explore all of her options, even if they are weak, is good. I think at least one person in my party ought to start specializing in ranged weaponry however. The roleplay is terrific as I love devleoping relationships and friendships with all the people that I bring along.

I really wish there would be some actual towns to explore though. I know there might not be too many in this sort of post-apocalyptic world, but solving quests and problems not related to bashing heads in would be fun too :smallsmile: Like, something Karrin can do to help via leading by example. Perhaps after some sarcastic comments the bad situation, she can use her diplomacy and smarts and maybe even looks to help the town out.

Berich may have some area of effect spells, but demons have resist 10 vs a lot of elements...

And I don't think channeling positive energy actually harms demons. Although...I think getting Berich to Grease me is a good idea. It'll help vs grapple. My CMD vs grapple goes up by 10 if I'm greased right?

As for Mira, don't worry about turning her into an actual paladin. Training her to act paladin-like does not in fact require a smart horse and self-healing. She can stay a fighter, or retrain into Cavalier, or do any number of things. It doesn't matter as much for how she thinks and acts. She's already very willing to help, so she's ost of the way there.

Retraining her into a Cavalier would be awesome though. She'd get her own special mount!

Not familiar at all with X-Com. You don't necessarily need to know all the lore for Starcraft. I can put together and link you to some primers. It's a pretty fun world. Very crapsack, gray-on-black morality. Very violent too. It's similar in theme to the Warhammer 40k universe, but there are decent people and heros as well, so it's actually much less hopeless and much happier in tone compared to WH40k (not that this is a difficult feat...).

Ghosts are psionic. They're very powerful, and require specialized training. But, we don't necessarily have to use that class. You could very well just be a marine or medic with minor latent psionic powers.

Spectres are Ghosts that went down a different training path (which is not a part of the normal Dominion or Confederate army. It is a training available only ina splinter group that is outlawed), and they are umm...typically amoral. So unless you want to play evil...

Don't get me wrong, you *can* play a ghost if you want. But you'll have slightly less flexibility in your background because of what it takes to be a ghost. In fact I might just make Ghosts a prestige class.

My character doesn't have any personal grievance with magic users, but he's one of the few non-magic users who can reliably go after them. I'd mainly like to play a Boba Fett type character, really.

My character was born into the squalor, growing up in some of the harshest conditions. However, he doesn't actually care to improve these conditions; as far as he is concerned, he was able to pull himself out of it, so anyone can with enough willpower. He thinks of himself first and foremost; if you are useful to him he'll protect you, if you are a liability he will remove the threat you pose. He is not, however, vindictive or wasteful. He only kills when it is profitable to him, and not without first considering whether he could in some way profit more by keeping his victim alive. He is calculating, and will always move in the straightest line from point A to point B, and will crush anyone who stands in his way.

Moving in the straightest line doesn't always mesh well with being calculating. Remember, there's always someone with a bigger gun, so sometimes you have to use alternative routes.

Perhaps a more accurate way of looking at it is that he takes an accurate assessment of the situation and then takes the most efficient actions to achieve his goals.

A lot of this depends on what sort of resources I start out with. If he's just starting out, I wouldn't imagine he would have much in the way of contacts or freetime, or even a permanent address. That might be the most difficult; if he does have one it will be in a very difficult place to find. Now that I think of it, he'll probably have safehouses and stashes scattered all over the playable setting, depending on how big the "sandbox" is.

As far as friends go, I think he would have someone to serve as a Mission Control. He calls her Tech Girl. I'd imagine their interaction would be solely through electronic means, and she'd run the Matrix-side of his business, sorting through possible jobs, doing the accounting, pirating prototype equipment schematics for him, hacking his targets, etc. They go back a long way, and he's reasonably sure he can trust her, but he does have insurance in case she tries to screw him.

You'd only have multiple safe houses if you were very rich. Most shadowrunners are lucky to maintain a Medium lifestyle while keeping up with the latest cyber implants and other equipment.

And remember: In this day and age, there's electronic eyes everywhere. Unless you want to live far away from any city, your best protection is to try to hide via anonymity. Besides, it takes too fraggin' long to meet your chummers at the nightclubs if you live 70 miles away.

As for female Otakon (aka Tech girl), you'd only have something like that if you have a dedicated sponsor. Like, serious backing from one of the megacorps. If you have a team to run with you, they'd be on site with you during the run. Many computer systems are off the grid if they need to be *truly* secure from off-site hacking.

It sounds like he's mostly a loner thus far. What is his normal life like? Surely he does something other than kill people or commit crimes?

Read over the backgrounds and the setting some more tonight when I email you the stuff. SR has a rich world worth exploring.

As for a day job, I would imagine it would be something mundane, low-profile, but with at least a decent salary, and most importantly, give him access to resources he normally wouldn't have. I'm thinking something in information technology, where his 9-5 would be to sift through and organize vast amounts of data. Maybe he's a bank accountant, which lets him legally track vast amounts of currency transfer. Another option would be working for a communications network.

You can have a Day Job. In fact, it's a Negative Quality (aka Disadvantage. You get more character points because it hinders you in some way. In this case, it eats up your time, and it's hard to keep your job if you need to hide out for a week while the cops stop looking for someone with your description) although you may wish to choose less than 40 hours a week.

I think he spent the majority of his life being told that he would never amount to anything, and is motivated above all else to prove to the world that they're wrong about him; he isn't some drugged-up street thug who spends all of his free time in the bar, high or with a woman.

Nowhere does it say it only works 1/day. In fact, you can keep on using it to even stack all the different penalties.

Can I use the evil eye hex more than once on a target?

Yes. As long as you apply a different penalty with each use of the hex (AC, ability checks, attack rolls, saving throws, or skill checks), you can have multiple penalties on the same target. Applying the same hex penalty to a target just resets the duration to the most recent use of the hex.

Example: On round 1, you hex the target's AC. On round 2, you hex the target's attack rolls, so the target now has two evil eye hexes on it. On round 3, you hex the target's saving throws, so it now has three evil eye hexes on it. On round 4, you hex its AC again, resetting the duration of the AC-hex (which does not add an additional ľ2 penalty to its AC). The same thing would happen if two witches were using evil eye on the same target--as long as each evil eye hex applied a penalty to a different thing, they'd all apply.

Witches are usually very, very useful. While Im fine with Grembler not being as powerful up until now since he's an NPC and roleplaying-wise he's not a powerhouse, I *do* at least want him to gain the full benefits of what he is entitled to mechanically :smallsmile:

Cacle is scary. Very scary. It's easily the best Hex for a witch assuming he has something to pair it with. He can keep Evil Eye and a successful Misfortune literally going the entire fight if he's willing to keep on spending Move actions. Given enough time, he can have hexes on all the enemies. Witches are scaaaaaary. If he had taken Fortune instead, he could keep the Fortune bonus going for the entire fight as well.

It's too bad. Given the Dragon Order Cavalier's abilities to aid another much better than others, she can do what Trombe is doing, but give more AC, if she takes the Bodyguard feat.

The unseat feat is ok I guess, and makes sense in character if she feels she'll be facing a lot of other mounted characters. In most campaigns I've been in that feat would almost never come into play.

But yeah, I'd just have Anita replace Death or Glory with Rhino Charge (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/combat-feats/rhino-charge-combat). Now she can move into position and ready a charge! Plus, she doesn't *have* to attack with a charge. She can Bullrush instead to help the rest of the party out if necessary.

Oh yeah, where is her Mount's character sheet? The horsie needs feats too :smallsmile:

I figured that much out (and wrote as such in the quest log), but is there an official entry for them in one of the bestiaries? Or was this an original (and very cool) creature?

Well, the method of mind control is different than usual. Once I figured out that Remove Disease works, I basically treated them as Aliens with telepathic communication.

Oh yeah, Grembler should add the new bracers and the ring of protection to his inventory. I didn't see them on his sheet. Maybe I missed them. I also need to get the Circlet of Persuasion back from Kensin.

Champion of the Gods is too strong for a Level 2 spell. It would be fine as a higher level spell. I say switch it with Celestial Steed. The ability to do 1d4 ability damage per round is certainly on a higher level than letting your steed Fly.

"According to this, this Pillar of Aversion as it was called is the foundation for the ward that protects the city from the fiends. It spoke of a 'source' that the architect 'obtained' in order to power it. Based on the way this is written, I would say that the 'source' is the angel."

Mirabelle asks, "You didn't get a clue about this before?"

Lyanna shakes her head. "It's all very vague and clinical. Regardless, the architect bound the source to the Pillar as a means to protect the city from a fiendish invasion he foresaw. Once he had the first phase complete, he constructed a second phase which would extend the field to a thirty-mile radius around the city. It was fully functional, but he never activated it."

"And if you fail, both the pillar and the angel will die!" Says the dwarf.

"The knowledge used to create the Pillar is beyond our current knowledge. The elders will defer to me, and I will advise that attempting revival is too great a risk. One life is not worth this city," the forgemaster says.

"Attempting the revival *now* is too risky. But maybe with some time for your people to learn from the device, you can gain the knowledge to do it safely. I understand the importance of this device. All I ask is that your people not move onto phase 2 until you've studied the device more and awakened the Outsider. We probably missed some scrolls somewhere that tells us more about how the device works. Take some time. Send exploration parties. Don't commit murder."

Destroying a fiend can have any number of results, depending mostly on the manner and nature of the fiend.

The majority of fiends destroyed by mortals are not truly destroyed, especially not if they are destroyed in the Mortal Realm. Their "souls" if you will, sort of spread out, and dissolve back into the substance of their home plane.

What happens next depends on whether they are demon or devil. Devils when returning to the Nine Hells due to destruction of their forms undergo an evaluation concerning the cause of their destruction. If they are determined to be a failure, they will be demoted, some of their power removed.

Demons undergo a similar, if less ordered process. They return to the Abyss, and must forcefully pull themselves together all the while being preyed upon by their fellow demons, who will use this opportunity to steal some of their fallen kin's power.

However, a sufficiently powerful destruction, such as one brought about by divine wrath, may scatter a fiend so completely there is not enough left to reassemble. In this case, the fiend as a conscious being is for all practical intents and purposes permanently destroyed.
