I was a little unsure of where to put this, but I figured it would be safe here.

In celebration of almost a year of campaigning in our Runequest game, and with the holidays approaching, I wrote this for the group. It mainly focuses on our first big encounter that jump started the game, but also honors some of the other major ones in between (the Giant Rubble and Griffon Mountain, notably).

It being Runequest, the setting is Glorantha. "One Day" is a celebration of one major god's supposed birthday. Enjoy this strange little campaign recollection, and happy holidays!

"T'was the Night Before One Day"

T'was the night before One Day,
And all through Boldhome
Everybody was partying;
Except four alone.

Four brave adventurers
Traveling through Sartar
Broke into a mansion
Owned by some Lunar.

The job only told
To desecrate holy shrines,
But these four adventurers
Wickedly took what they could find.

First they scaled the wall,
Ten feet in the air!
Then the thief broke the lock;
Opened house so all could share.

The guards lay in their blood
The Babeester Gor laying deep cuts;
The spirits found rest
After statues were pummeled into dust.

The Stormbull peed on the remains,
And Ramkiller cackled with glee
As the priestess of Humakt
Helped her find a key.

They found a stone box
That held many coins;
As their first really big boon
It gave them much joy.

They fled from the scene,
Leaving blood in their wake;
Laughing at the poor Lunars
Who are clearly never given a break.

Divinations were cast
And the four were revealed;
But nothing could stop them
In their newfound zeal.

One was Ramkiller, the thief,
An Orlanthi, no less;
With a hatred for broo
And little other respect.

The Humakti, Helma,
Was a powerful ally;
But she hated the Lunars
And with Ramkiller she sided.

The Stormbull was Minsk
Who spoke with a strange accent;
He seemed to like hamsters,
And was obviously a game reference.

The three followed Tapika,
The Babeester Gor and her wisdom.
She led them bravely
Past many potentially damaging decisions.

On a hill atop the city,
Boldhome celebrating below,
The four knew then that they would have to leave...
Of course, with their new treasure in tow.

As they turned to the north,
Deciding on Balazar,
They prepared for the journey
That would take them out of Sartar.

But it wouldn't be forever,
And their troublemaking would continue;
For in two or three years
They will return to this venue.

In the time before their return
They would encounter great foes --
A dream dragon, a fire elemental,
And quite a few trolls.

They would sift through the ruins
Of Prax's Giant Rubble,
And climb Griffon Mountain
Despite some teleportation troubles.

And even beyond
Their return to Sartar
The four will ascend greatness
In their travels afar.

But for now, outside Boldhome,
Encouraged by success,
The party simply hoped
That their gods thought them blessed.

Before they crested the horizon,
Mounts galloping into the sun,
They cried, "Happy One Day to all --
Now let's hurry the heck up!"

(I would love to see variations on this old holiday tale made for different D&D things!)
