:smallfrown:

I liked the explanation!

Oh! I'm sorry. I thought it was overly wordy and didn't contribute much that the visual joke didn't explain. I tend to do that a lot.

Here it is for everyone else:

I had originally wanted to play a wizard of humble birth with an insatiable thirst for knowledge. The character was young and arrogant, which lead to a great deal of recklessness in his pursuits; though he was basically good, in his aggressive pursuit of knowledge, he'd occasionally stumble upon things he didn't fully understand or was unable to control, and would eventually have to confront and accept the realization that there is a darkness in himself, and in everything, that is always pulling things in different directions.

The DM would have none of that. You were either Luke Skywalker or you were Darth Vader, in a world without Han Solo. While we were all of simple origin (as per our origin story, which contained the standard trope-ridden JRPG fanfare: you're a group of Ordinary High School Students (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/OrdinaryHighSchoolStudent) who discover that you're The Chosen Ones (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheChosenOne), whereupon Your Beloved Peasant Village (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DoomedHometown) will be destroyed and You Can't Go Home Again (tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/YouCantGoHomeAgain) until you collect the Dismantled Macguffin (tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DismantledMacguffin) for the Full Set Bonus (tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FullSetBonus)), but after more than a year of adventuring, we still weren't allowed to develop our characters at all; any attempt at developing my character was met by "you can't do that, that's evil" or "you're not supposed to do that". After a year of adventuring, during which we destroyed entire criminal organizations bent on destabilizing a whole continent, we were expected to remain simple farmboys/farmgirls.

Strangely, the DM had no objection to Killing It With Fire (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/KillItWithFire), so with no other options available to me, I became a Pyro Maniac (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/PyroManiac).

Wait, how could you be to good at combat to be a "Tough Warrior Race Guy"?
Or did you mean that you wanted to pull the worf effect and regularly get your ass kicked to show how though and dangerous one treat or another is?
Because if it is the later I must give you major props for unique desires!

I wanted my character to be remembered as "Badass" but ultimately the party began referring to him as an "Abomination" because he outwitted and defeated an entire village of elves.

There's a fine line between "Tough Warrior" and "Doomfist the World-Ender" that I crossed.

It's also pronounced like 'Racket'. There's an in-game joke that when Recette slams her and Tear's (her account/loan shark fairy) names together, Tear dreadfully notes that any slight change in pronunciation will make it sound like 'racketeer'

...I think the fact that it's Rorschach, [a character I am not familiar with] and a mecha is probably more relevant than the sex of each one. Though, indeed, some explanation might improve it somewhat.

I know that character. Basically, he made what supposed to be an unlikable smelly nietzche wannabe with powered armor. Except it's a girl, so people like it.... a bit too much (you can imagine yourself). At the end he just play her as tekkaman (which isn't a mech, but a series about alien powered armor) and beat people up.

Here's mine.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/Faris/hah.jpg
Really, should've expected an all-girl team. Read or Die is awesome though.

And another one

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/Faris/hah2-1.jpg
Really, I expected maybe half robot fighting and half investigation. Turned out that in our whole game, there might be five combat scene in total, and only half of it involves robot.

What does that even mean? They're all so different I'm not sure what it's even about.

A person who doesn't know where these pics came from may indeed be confused. Here's an explanation.

What I made - Rorschach from Watchmen. An antisocial paranoid hobo with superhuman ability, questionable logic, worse people skills and a Nietzschean "me vs the world of sheeple" attitude.

What the DM/other players saw - Fate from Nanoha. Lonely and unhappy girl (yes the character in question is female) who was suffering all life for no fault of her own. Someone to be comforted and befriended. Also, blonde. Also, lesbian shipping fuel with a red-headed friend.

What I played - Tekkaman Blade from, well, Tekkaman Blade. Armored transforming hero with a single-minded dedication to defeating a monstrous enemy group, and general lack of caring about everything else. Very asocial but gets (slightly) better due to influence of kind friends (and possibly-more-than-friends). In short, something between the two above.

Alright, I'll dump some here.

1) When I played a two-weapon ranger themed as a gruff sheriff.
http://img703.imageshack.us/img703/157/whatthedmsawtwinswordra.jpg

2) When I played a wizard. We were all supposed to play good aligned for the purposes of the campaign, I was on the excessively neutral side of neutral good. The ultimate goal of the character was to be able to cast any spell ever.
http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/4650/whatthedmsawmarius.jpg

3) When I played a rogue with a utility belt of various items for all situations.
http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/7451/whatthedmsawkiset.jpg

4) Lastly, when I tried to play an insane wizard... which was a mistake.

For a superheroes game, made a former child-soldier with shadow powers inspired by Bean, with a bit of a dark Peter Pan theme. GM just saw the Peter Pan. And since the group was full of Large Ham (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/LargeHam) McCoys (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheMcCoy) whose obsession with "roleplaying" meant that we could never finish a session on time, my character's vague sense of professionalism made him become The Spock (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheSpock).

The character was designed to be a complete and utter Lolita chibi styled anime girl "Mary Sue" character with the twist that she was actually a little boy.

And very ****ing evil.

Yeah, I've seen the class you're talking about (blacklight warper, correct?).I though it has some formatting and logic issues with it (claws mutation doesn't actually give claws , but has upgrades for your claws, Superior Unarmed strike is odd, Crush doesn't have an action cost, and a few others). Considered fixing it and reposting it before, but I lost faith in my skill as a 'brewer after my first PRC was an utter failure.

What I played:http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs11/i/2006/256/4/3/SSBB_Newcomer_Steve_Irwin_by_Drewsel.jpg
Explanation:I was a bit stuck for a character concept, so I went with "female Steve Irwin (or grown up Bindi) if he became a vampire". The DM struggled a bit with the idea of a vampire who wasn't drop-dead (boom boom) gorgeous, scantily clad with enormous boobs. And also everyone else was really, really evil. Instead, ol' Shazza ended up being a complete moron who accidentally sold (or is about to accidentally sell) her entire soul to a horrific vampire-hunting monster.
Also her arm got chopped off. By an ally.

I know that. I meant that I want to know how he went from "a lawyer" to "the Doctor."

Well, the key, which it perhaps would have made more sense had I mentioned, is he's a factotum. I'm pretty sure every factotum turns into the Doctor eventually (the ones that don't just specialize in Iaijutsu Focus, anyway). In particular, the parts where the Doctor knows everything and can do anything with his sonic screwdriver and psychic paper and whatever useful doohickeys he happens to have on hand at any given time. Relevant anecdotes:

Jack Jackson has equal points in every Knowledge skill. Much of the time, rather than trying to figure out what sort of Knowledge would be applicable in any given situation, I just say "I'm rolling Knowledge (all the things)". I'm pretty sure that's the only kind of Knowledge check the Doctor ever makes.

I think "digging holes" are to Jack Jackson as "wood" is to the Doctor. We keep needing to dig graves for party members and I keep thinking "Oh yeah, I meant to buy a shovel. I forgot."

Alas, however, no time machine. Yet. It occurs to me that this DM's last campaign did end with time travel, so there may be hope.

Since posting that image that pixie has (somehow) managed to become the party leader. She's not the strongest party member, she's a sword-and-board weapon finesse using Crusader of Ehlonna who refuses to use racial powers in combat (she's never read a story about a knight who turns invisible and shoots sleep arrows so she doesn't either) but dang it if her heart isn't in the right place. Not even the guy who has never played anything but evil characters has the heart to do it around her, leaving his drow poison master careening straight toward Chaotic Good if he's not there already.

I applied to a PBP game with the promise of sandbox adventure for newly-turned gestalt vampire spawn. I thought it sounded like it could be a blast, so I made a female unarmed Swordsage with rich parents, a snobby attitude, and a rebel complex. This character's first order of business was to get back at the jerk that turned her, using any men that got in her way to further her goals. In the end, the DM saw the character as a little girl trying to play at being seductive (all NPCs miraculously were completely immune to any attempts at coercion or seduction), leaving me with no other resort but to just kill everything that so much as hinted that they might realize she was no longer human.

My latest character was a Pathfinder monk with the Martial Artist archetype, meaning I practice unarmed combat without all the traditions and mysticism. For campaign reasons I was a mercenary/bounty hunter hired to kidnap the annoying DMPC and sell him back to his family that he ran away from. So I did that (I don't think I was supposed to succeed), then joined the evil king because he was paying me more. Completely motivated by monetary reward.

A lot of people seem to be playing Lelouch as of late.:smallcool:

How you got there from where you started took me a minute to figure out, but is actually quite simple. I'm assuming it went something like this?:

1. Make a not-Chaotic-Evil drow.
2. The DM immediately thinks "Oh great, it's Drizzt..."
3. You end up taking the fight to the Underdark, in at least somewhat evil fashion.

...how did the first become the second, let alone the third? :smalleek:
Started out as an honest Stormtrooper Sgt. on the beat. Lost some men in a routine patrol on Nar'Shada, including a patrol speeder. A big fight broke out with some big underworld boss and some good samaritans. Also there was a Jedi. Got a call to investigate a report of a Jedi. Apparently I missed the action, the bosses didn't like this. Soon I was brought in for questioning by Imperial Intelligence. I was the last man of my squad at this point. Some evidence or bribes or favors got the underworld boss to frame me. Though someone at Imperial Intel sure must have wanted it to happen as well.

They put me on leave while they investigated further, depressed at how things went south I went to the bar. Happened upon the Jedi here, attempted to run down and catch her. I came so close, but alas it wasn't enough. Ended up shooting up the bar and anger people. Killed a few petty thugs trying to collect her for the bounty. They got in my way. My weapon of choice was a hand canon.

It didn't take me long to realize that something was going wrong with the "investigation". If I went back to the precinct there were good odds I would be killed. All my Stormtrooper held ideal was crashing down in front of him. He seen the corruption before him at this point. Got called to wait on for pickup because of the incident. Had to go and report in since I was off duty while this happened.

An old and very aged clone trooper who tipped me off in the bar and talked to me swoops out of nowhere in an old and stripped down Laat (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Low_Altitude_Assault_Transport/infantry) Gunship painted yellow and serving as a Taxi for the two to drive. They really tip me off to the corruption and tell me it's best I go. So I leave. I wasn't dumb enough to take the chances after some ominous warning signs I might be getting a permanent vacation.

So now me and these clone troopers hold up in a an old run down slummy apartment and I wait and plan. My guy decides it's time to play the straight and narrow and go back to the base and get some answers. My real reason is to get my equipment. I felt I was the only real Stormtrooper left sticking up for what we meant. An assassin droid approaches us and notifies he needs entrance into the precinct to get intel on his next target he can only find there. That intel is on the crime lord who had a part in framing me. At this point I need answers.

We concoct a devious plan to turn me in as a prisoner hoping for bounty. My name/designation was dropped on the local news so it wasn't too far out of the imagination that people on a desperate world might turn me in for some credits. The droid will slip in ahead of us posed a protocol droid. He does this, and turns some of the defenses off. Allowing me to wander the base, but first. I'm going to meet with the top boss of the base. An agent recently transferred from Imperial Intelligence. He questions me, and he admits that all of their evidence is phony and I was doing the right thing. Tells me I've gotten involved in something a little over my pay grade and then decides to put me in jail while they decide what to do with me. Though I had a feeling that would be the end for me if they did.

So while I'm in the base and since this is so hush hush I know people aren't going to know I've been essentially discharged yet and awaiting termination. So me and my old clone pals head deep into the base. A phony alarm by our assassin droid gets a lot of people looking outside for an attack. We work quick. It came close a few times where I had to talk my way through groups of old troopers I called friends. Came close to having to kill them. (I was playing a Soldier. We don't exactly have good charisma scores or any persuasion training.)

I get into my locker, the code hasn't been changed yet. Grab my Stormtrooper gear and make my way outside acting like I'm answering the alarm. We make our way out of the base, the droid meets up with us too. He has intel on where this crime boss is located or might be located. He also now has a name. (I forgot since this game is no longer running, and it was a long time ago.)

At the very perimeter fence exit Imperial Intel guy must have spotted me because it went south. People started shooting and chasing us. So its now a mad dash for the four of us into the crowded packed markets of the world. Clones split off to go and get the Gunship Taxi since no one was interested in them. Well relatively little were chasing them. Nothing the aged vets couldn't handle.

The droid went another way, they had trouble keeping up. This meant I had most of my former friends and allies now chasing me through the streets taking pot shots at me. I make it to the edge of the platform and look down into the abyss and the flying cars. It's certain death as I hear them getting closer. I see a hover train about to fly below the platform like an underpass. So I leap, and this is almost suicidal given the velocities involved.

Against all odds my armour protects me, but I do hit hard and roll down the train several cars before getting a handhold. (I made that jump by 1 point. One less and I would have went tumbling). The Stormtroopers take a few more potshots at me but I whisk out of sight too fast. Eventually the clones collect me and we rest up.

That's my story of how a Stormtrooper turned from a renegade down on his luck. It became my goal and the assassin droid to hunt down and locate this crime boss. I would get answers, and hunt people until the end of the earth until I got the truth. I was also doing it for my squad I lost on the planet. Painted my Stormtrooper armor a blazing fiery red and black. Took mercenary jobs to get some credits. Made a name for myself all the while hunting down the crime lord.

Eventually I did become more of a deckard investigator type than a mercenary, though there was minor overlap. I specialized in jobs against my former coworkers, had to be the person to set them right. Someone else might have gotten it wrong.

That is my story, all of it you need to know. The game ended before I ever did find out why they hunted me. But it was my most badass game I participated in on these forums. It lasted for almost two years. We had like 8-10 players and the GM was doing sub plots for all of us. I tied in with the Jedi and the Assassin bot. Lots died, or dropped out. So it was soon whittled down to a core of 4-5 players. Though the Assassin droid joined a little later on.

GM seen me as a mercenary because sometimes I could get a little emotionally invested in my targets/arguments. And I got betrayed by the organization I so faithfully served.

Then again I also had impeccable detective skills for someone with no skills in those things. It was though, but I managed. While a lot of people would persuade/trick/lie their way past I could offer help to do jobs for people instead. Benefit of being trained by the best. Stormtroopers and later some tips from the clones.

I came so close to catching that Jedi player. It was the difference between 4 hit points where I finally had to let her get away. But at the end of the day by the time i fought my way to her I didn't have enough HP to fight her.

Suffice to say it was an awesome game. I had a lot of fun in game philosoraptoring my role in the storm troopers, ethics of terror tactics to keep populace in line, and other conundrums of coming to realize I had served one of the most vile organizations the galaxy ever seen.

From a rather short-lived campaign:

http://i429.photobucket.com/albums/qq15/eyeofsaulot/whatiplayedmodron.jpg

I made a Modron rogue that my DM feared would be some kind of killing machine because of the absurd number of attacks he was able to make in a round. However, the party also had a half-dragon/half-troll barbarian that utterly overshadowed any combative power my Modron may have had. Because of the barbarian, subtlety never was an aspect of the party's modus operandi. Ultimately, my character's role was reduced to nothing and I never even had a chance to develop a personality for the poor fella, rendering it a mere cube.

What I played:http://www.cosplaykitten.com/reference/jessica.jpg

Explanation:Deborah "Debbie" Dobson is the character I've just, sadly, finished playing in a... whatever the human version of the White Wolf games is called. Her premise was that she is a wanna-be serious investigative reporter who was the only survivor of a "slasher movie" - all her crew were picked off and slaughtered by an unknown assailant. I wanted her to be more intelligent than she looked but hard to take seriously (she's a natural blonde who dyes her hair black in an effort to seem more "serious"), ambitious and vain.
The GM saw just a blonde bimbo victim - and unfortunately the fact it turns out I'm pretty awful at the quick-thinking that's required for the acting-out of roleplay expected in a White Wolf game, it was pretty understandable :/
In the very last game I was playing this character, the GM revealed the tweest that the character I'd been playing was actually the fetch of a Changeling. Jessica Rabbit is, I think, a pretty good guide to what her natural form looks like: all the standards of beauty, the large eyes and red lips and narrow waist and all that, are exaggerated to the point where she's as grotesque as she is beautiful. She was last seen making out with the only remaining normal human party member to feed on his desire for her (he didn't seem to be complaining...).

The first game I played with her, I was ready to kill her off and make a new character. Now, I'm really sad I have to leave the game :smallfrown:

Young (PF template) Tibbit Wu Jen. I had given him ocular spells for ultimate lazor kitteh lolz. But, being one of the stronger players in the group, the DM was a little afraid of how I would deal with being a Caster (I usually play... well basically everything else.) Now instead of becoming an extremely powerful caster - or using spells at all for that matter - I simply focused on the RPing aspect of being a kitten :smalltongue:. I even got my own special skill called "adorableness" that I gained ranks in according to the amount of RP done, and I could use the skill in case diplomacy, bluff, or intimidation failed . http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee26/ustaaz/Natewhatheplayed.png

Explanation

The campaign is on a homebrew world where, 800 years ago, the gods (think like Norse gods) fought a war with humanity (somewhere between traditional fantasy and Tippyverse). Humanity won, but in the process caused a cataclysm that completely wrecked the world. The known world is pretty much desert, with the stronger fortifications from The God War still standing and mostly serving as easy spots for towns. The world has a lot of magic, but it is fairly weak. Recorded history starts about 700 years ago, with the God War being just legends.
Also, the sun moves in a circle around the sky and then sets where it rose (a quirk caused by the ridiculous amount of planar binding magic going on during the God War -- it locked the planet and sun in place and the planet rotates in 2 perpendicular directions).

Anyway, my player's character concept is that he is the former god of conflict and debauchery, who decided it would be better for him to not be a god anymore and gave up his powers, which locked him in a stasis until about 30 years ago. He doesn't age, but also doesn't remember a whole lot, mostly mixing memories from the stories of people he has met in with his own.
HOWEVER, he has been a wandering bard for 30 years now, and knows a whole lot of people. This has created a lot of different roleplaying opportunities as he has a ton of contacts in major cities, etc. His whole goal is to watch conflict and chaos as it unfolds, and in any case just wants to have a good time. All in all, he is very charismatic and has history with many people, mostly involving parties.

Not entirely true. Smaller than tiny you simply use the tiny figures, and divide the armor bonus by 2. There's also a chart in the SRD regarding weapons of different sizes. I'm not sure if it's in the PHB or the DMG if you use Dead Tree format, though.

Homebrew world, homebrew rules. Enter Hörthur the viking.

I was playing a nice guy who happened to be a viking, and who I thought was built to use whatever equipment suited the situation (shield, sword, axe, dualwield, armor, no armor....). The problem was he couldn't do it all at once, or any of it well.
The DM thought I was making a brute that screams and rushes at the enemies with an axe, just like all the other vikings. Incidentally, he thought the character would also die 5 minutes into this Japanese campaign because he can't dodge any arrows.
What he ended up as (after a rebuild, and as the rules kept changing) is ridiculous.
He shield-bashed a dragon to death - but he would have died to a single breath attack. He makes manly shouts that scatter enemies away from him - but he can't hit them. He is so agile he is safer without wearing a helmet, or torso armor, or groin/upper leg armor - but he only learned to jump a few sessions ago, since it's linked to a skill he didn't have. There was even the scene where a guy is kicked (speared, in this case) hundreds of meters down - unfortunately, Hörthur was the one falling. He survived, with the equivalent of D&D's -9 hp, floating in the water on top of his wooden shield.

Explanation: This was a Forum Emblem game, but it still applies. My character was originally going to be a nerdy, socially awkward swordsman who's out for revenge against the guy/s who killed his father. there was a houserule that anyone who got Ko'd and would automatically level up to within 5 levels of the average party level if they were not so already. So, upon being recruited, I sent him after the boss. He was essentially a level -10 unit at that point, vs a level 10 Character. He got offed by one of the mooks, but hey, those level-ups were awesome.

When it came to actually interacting with the party, I'm not entirely sure what happened, but he just became an uber troll.

Well, she never went completely whole-hog evil in-game, mostly because the stakes were 'if we don't keep working together, the galaxy will be destroyed'.

She did go whole hog-evil in her post-game story, only to return to a semblance of anti-heroism in a new campaign where she was the npc mother of my new PC, who incidentally turned out to be a much more appropriate 'chosen one'. I was playing a 4th level Good-aligned necromancer/magical doctor in a 3.5 game. He, along with the party barbarian, were the only two voices of reason, sanity, morality and ethics in a gang of morons and mad men led by a sociopathic fighter rogue. Think of Jayne Cobb with Blackadder's ruthless cunning. Hence the image posted.

Human Duskblade with a good Charisma score, built largely because I'd just started reading Michael Moorcock's Elric saga and wanted to model Elric. The DM sees a basic gish build. In play, he turns out to be vain, preening, and skirt-chasing, with a battle-cry of "not in the face!"

Spyception.

lol. I was the DM for this one (D&D) He literally did play the spy from TF2, a changeling rogue with a variety of cover identities (all the other guys from TF2) and a morphing weapon that would shift to peoples' melee weapons as he shifted form. his most commonly used form was that of the heavy which he took to calling Ivan. the name of the spy, just so I had something to refer to him as during narrative, was O.D.A.S. (the Obscure, Demure, Azure Saboteur) since, as in the photo, he was a blu team spy.

in something of an odd twist, here's the character I played in Gensh's D&D game.

It's transmetal Tarantulas from Beast Wars, who functions as the badguy's mad scientist. He's seen as insane for many reasons, but first among them is having the sort of urges living creatures would have even though he is a robot, and thus it is scene as unnatural. I know he "ate" things even though he couldn't really digest them, and I believe he tried to make some other robots his mate but it's been too long for me to be certain on the latter one.

It's probably self explanatory, but I wanted to play a character who, like Witchers, hunted monsters for coin. I also wanted this character to be fairly moral about it, though, and when the GM saw "Good" on my character sheet he immediately thought of Claymore (not an unreasonable assumption to make, all things considered.) Once the game actually began, I tried to dissuade him from that opinion by focusing much more on the "hero-for-hire" side of things, perhaps to an extreme.

The three player characters from a "Pulp Fantasy" Savage Worlds game. Set in 1939, we were originally supposed to be fighting Those Wacky Nazis, but after they destroyed us in the our first fight with them, we decided to focus on fighting Lovecraftian horrors instead, as it would be safer. And we were right!

My character. Even managed to lose an arm! By pulling the pins on all his grenades at once while surrounded by eldritch abominations, and thanks to a series of spectacular rolls, (mostly) surviving.

Reboot was actually made by the same company as beast wars (mainframe entertainment, now rainmaker) reboot ran from 93-96 (with its sorta-canon 4th season in 01) and then beast wars followed immediately afterwards from 96-99 using many of the same actors and animators. so your guess is not far off. I'll explain.

It's transmetal Tarantulas from Beast Wars, who functions as the badguy's mad scientist. He's seen as insane for many reasons, but first among them is having the sort of urges living creatures would have even though he is a robot, and thus it is scene as unnatural. I know he "ate" things even though he couldn't really digest them, and I believe he tried to make some other robots his mate but it's been too long for me to be certain on the latter one.

yep, that's who it is, beast wars, best show ever, transformers or otherwise. He's insane for a number of reasons, and yes, "urges" from living creatures is a good way to put it. In the third episode, "the web," he kidnaps cheetor, ties him up in a web, and plans to cannibalise him. which is where we learn that tarantulas eats living creatures (we see him snare a gazelle later on in the show, since it's set in tanzania) and despite he derives no nutritive value from this "this is a dumb plan, web-breath, I don't have any real blood, just mech fluid", he responds that it's "more the act [he] enjoys''

as with the show in general, it's kinda hard to miss the subtext here (part of what made it so hilarious) so I thought it would be fun to play as tarantulas because of how crazy he was and how his scenes were always a lot of fun to watch. the DM suggested I play as an aranea with a lower LA (scrapped the sorcerer casting and some other stuff) which I thought sounded fine.

one of the aranea abilities that I did keep for tarantulas (with the ingenious character name of Aranea, since the other players were not familiar with the monster and didn't speak spanish) was the web a couple times a day. this came up a lot, since we had a fair amount of combat in-game (especially for a beguiler, which Aranea was)

during one of the combats, we were trying to catch some criminals, so while tossing out a web, I yelled "Catches thieves just like flies!" as it stuck to him.

from this point, the rest of the players referred to Aranea OOC as "Gay Spider-man" which sort of stuck.

as the campaign went on, in typical beguiler style, I found that social interaction is often a better way to get what you want than combat and took to using my beguiler powers to seduce the strapping young men that he came across rather than spam "stay the hand" (we were level 4 or 5 for this game, so the beguiler's in-combat options were somewhat limited as opposed to later on)

ultimately, the game wound up breaking down somewhat, and this is what all of the social interactions ended up consisting of, and I realised I'd kind of devolved into self parody and was somehow playing a character even more high-camp than tarantulas. as I tried to think of who could possibly be campier, I had my answer: Frank n Furter. I realised who I was really playing and then all was right with the world, and a good time was had by all.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v672/kagasuri/elf.jpg

The Story
In a homebrew setting, where elves were waif and fair, humans were amazingly versatile, and dwarves were truly rugged, I just wanted to play a simple Elven Bard. But I had the blessed fortune to roll perhaps the second greatest set of stats I have ever had on any character anywhere. Coming away with starting Dex of 20, and Charisma 20, I figured she would be great at evading anything and everything she couldn't talk he way out of and be the Party support member at best.

The GM saw the stats and the fact she carried a longbow, and dismissed it as me playing a half-naked elf sniper, and considered it likely I would invest in perform (striptease). I wanted to avoid that like the plague, and she became something between soothsayer and mother of the party, even avoiding combat to the point of being called a pacifist from time to time. By the end of the campaign with the right words in the right places, she became a darling of the noble houses, and eventually became the adopted daughter of the King of the north.

Eh, I probably could have put it better. I'll go ahead and make an explanation, since the game has started now.

What I made, What the GM is seeing, and What I'm Playing (text version):
The original concept was an ancient emperor returning to the world and calling the dead citizens of his empire to build a new one. The point of closest reference for this is propably Gilgamesh.

The GM seems to have seen the "raising tens of thousands of undead from the depths of hell" thing, and seized on it. As a result, my world opinion is on par with the demonic forces which seek to destroy everything that's left of the world. Hence the comparison to Morgoth, the dark enemy of the world.

Due to the millions of years worth of cultural differences, general disregard for physical pain and disfigurement(some citizens will actually behead themselves as a practical joke on outsiders...), and having the second highest amount of magical power in the world (the highest being taken by a cabal of archmages with a chokehold on the world's magical artifacts), I'll likely be significantly different from everyone else. Thus the comparison with Yukari, commonly noted to be one of the least understandable youkai. For example:

<after spending one-thousand years planning and executing a second invasion of the moon>

Alright, alright! I can stop pretending to be angry.

Perhaps it would have been more clear had I used the following:

My DM, on the other hand, only saw my character's listed alignment--Lawful Good. She became all ridiculous about how I can't possibly be both Lawful Good and completely lacking in a drive to charge headfirst at evil/go out seeking evil to fight, despite the fact that my character got to where he was by game's start because he basically got his status reduced to property to save a random child he never met. Negative, you now have an accomplice to create lies and back up your own.

Exactly that means you can spin tales and other treats to which I can confirm as though they were my own.

I keep imagining you saying the "I am your DM!" part like Darth Vader.

I was trying to figure out a good monologue in response to VKnight, ending with "no, I am your DM".

Also, VKnight, I can't see those last three. Because you copied the URL of the page, not the picture.

Explanation
I made a shy, awkward character who managed to find an ideology justifying and even exalting shyness. However, the GM saw a black mecha pilot who seemed like she might stabilize the group. What I've actually ended up playing is a fairly clever, rather aloof woman who is a bit too inclined to use her skill with computers, that I had really only picked because it's necessary for mecha pilots in Mutants and Masterminds, to achieve her ends.

PLAYED

http://img28.imageshack.us/img28/7555/rocketpropelledbustersw.jpg
Explanation

I wanted to play a Fighter/Dread Pirate and I put down that I had a large sized Rapier for lols because I rolled a good Strength and Dex score and and took Power Attack. Which my DM goaded me for making Cloud with a different weapon...

And then, as if to screw with me, my DM plot-hooked my group into a non-seafaring adventures into a desert, and my character kinda went a little loopy due to heat stroke and failed saves...[picture Cloud in his wheelchair]

After his recovery, I switched from "Great Rapier" to a Hasted oversize 2-handed adamantium sword build and started to 1 shot anything with some Charge+full attack feat another player suggested...made the spell casters feel more like the janitors, cleaning up the mooks / BBEG's blood stains.

Thankfully, the DM quit after 2 adventures in the desert and another one of my friends took over running the game and we switched to nWoD. I think it was because I was hogging the spotlight far too much...

Effectively, I just wanted to make a melee bardadin, nice guy, go around singing and smiting evil with Charisma-boosted swordfighting. We were playing in Forgotten Realms and I decided "hey, a Paladin of Sune will be fun!" hence the DM's impression. Then we get to actual playing and my character has to start physically manhandling people to keep them on task...

My wife is playing a half-crazy Roma-esque Warlock who gets periodically possessed by Mystra and/or an ancient sapient tome of necromancy.

Another guy plays a Halfling Wizard with a Rod of Wonder.

And then there's the NPC pseudodragon.

There is just a lot of general dopeslapping when one of them is about to break the Weave or something.

TMI further explanation of "GM saw":
For fairness, I should admit my DM has a point, since I just solved a quest by rocking a Copper Wyrm's world so hard she went and solved it for me (she had several other reasons, too, but a natural 20 on an unlisted skill check is what got her out of her comfy lair to go beat up an Adult Red Dragon we'd ticked off earlier).

(And before you start objecting to this, Polymorph.)

I've been wanting to contribute to this thread for a long time but I couldn't think of which images to use until now. So here are two of my characters, one past and one present:

This was for a steampunk game set in an alternate version of the 1920's or 30's (I forget exactly when).
http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q25/JinnTolser/Sinclair.jpg

Explanation: The character I designed was a retired British army intelligence officer turned butler to the party's resident mad scientist. I had designed him to be pretty competent at a lot of things. The only thing he really didn't share with Bond was the latter's compulsive womanizing.

"What the GM saw" is pretty self-explanatory I think, since that's exactly who the word butler conjures to the minds of most people I know.

Sinclair ended up becoming ridiculously good at just about everything, and was the party's resident powerhouse because he wielded a sword that was actually a holy relic we pilfered from a church.

And this one is for a Star Wars Saga campaign that I'm currently in.
http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q25/JinnTolser/Boten.jpg

Explanation: One of the other players wanted to play a Sith based on Nobunaga Oda, specifically as he's portrayed in the Samurai Warriors video games. I thought I'd keep the theme so I built my character off of Masamune Date since I didn't want to be one of his retainers and thus subservient.

I ended up building him as a bit more of a schemer though, and in the end focused most of his abilities on non-combat things like social skills and disabling Force powers. Really all the resemblance he bears to Masamune anymore is in his fighting style, dual-wielding blasters and occasionally pulling out a lightsaber. Well, that and the fact he's missing an eye. Over the course of the game, he's turned his fortune into a burgeoning criminal empire, and begun destabilizing the local government of his home planet in a bid to eventually usurp the authority along with the other players and set himself up as the power behind the throne. From there we're turning our attentions to the rest of the galaxy, but that's still a ways off yet.

Explanation:

I made a fairly basic Druid, going into a low-level game with quite a few people new to D&D. I was mostly using Entangle and such as we pottered around the countryside after kobolds (Including a time where it allowed our rag-tag bunch of morons to chip an Owl Bear to death while being level 1).

My animal companion wolf was mostly running around flanking, killing one or two kobolds every now and again... but then it became that the wolf didn't fear anything. At all. It's shrugged off about 20 attempts at paralysis on in, numerous fear effects, poisons, survived an attack with 1hp then killed it's attacker. So on and so forth.

And now we've gone underground and are mostly fighting undead. The sort of situation a level 3 Druid is utterly terrible in, but one in which a Large-Sized Wolf that doesn't seem to fail Saves ever is utterly destroying everything.

There are clearly a lot of house rules in play here.

Ralasha
2012-04-18, 12:19 AM
Yes, he had the house rule of: if you are smaller, an equivalent distance is the same. The drop had nearly dropped me. Potions were not limited to lower level/cure spells, but instead to any spell that effected you directly. The higher level spells are however exasperatingly costly. No potions of Mage Armor etc.

However, being diminutive the bed being equivalently say... seven or eight stories in height, my hit dice being lowered due to my size meant that that fall was going to hurt. Especially after I rolled 1's on both my tumble, and reflex saves, which resulted in the breaking of the containers for some rather nasty alchemical substances.
Now, having a lowered strength as well due to my reduced size, when I hit the ground and popping noise was heard (Thought this time I made my reflex save, thank goodness, and thus did not roast to death in a tiny poof of alchemical fire...) which woke the man my character was about to assassinate.

First of all, let me get out of the way that I had been extremely unlucky in my rolls for a few minutes at this point, and that the DM was having rather a good time of it, in that for every 1 I rolled he rolled a 20. The man heard the noise, I got up to investigate. I tried remaining still, only to make yet another reflex save as his foot came down where I was crouching (I had decided to climb the middle of the bed). I managed to get out of the way, having my choice of which direction to dodge the foot, only to end up under the other, making yet another reflex save, and having such a slow, slow speed, I began to run. Yes indeed. He saw me however. (Having rolled a 20 when I dodged his second foot.) I being the 'stylish' type, vouched for a dark, ragged, and trailing cloak of black spider silk (Which also covered my pack, in which the fire had been, my bandoleer was ok, which was good). Seeing this, the man mistook me for a mouse, or a small rat. Got up walked over ahead of me (I get no AOA (RAW), and no one steps on a rat barefooted.) I continue hurriedly for the nearest window, he takes a swipe at me (ridiculous AC) and missed. I activate my ring and begin climbing the wall hurriedly. He swipes at me and misses. I get up onto the window sill, he swipes at me and misses, and get out the window onto the side of his house climb up onto his roof. From there I make my way across the building down the other side into an alleyway. At which point my potion wears off. I chug invis, and move quiet as I can back to the inn.

The lesson is: The closeness of death when diminutive is only a footstep away.

Yes, to the point where i was not able to access any other Divine classes spells and was stuck with a extremity limited selection. This occurred for 8 levels until i announced that i had enough of the lack of support for my class and was converting it to a Cloistered Cleric (i had by this time had a couple of levels of Barb for a while so the picture fits)

It was only when i announced that i was changing the classes that the DM decided to hastily let me have more choices but i'd had enough, given that we'd had the same discussion about looking for new spells everytime the PC had leveled up.
In those 8 levels the total Divine Magic loot that was found was two scrolls - both of Cure Medium Wounds compared to the multitude of Arcane Scrolls and 4 whole spellbooks.

What? Mage armor is level 1, and you can get them without house rules for 50 gp.:smallconfused:

Also, rolling a 1 or a 20 on a skill doesn't invoke the auto-failure and auto-sucess rules. Otherwise you could jump over the moon if you tried hard enough.

Yeah, a class like that one really shouldn't be gimped. Ever, at all.

I didn't say 20's were auto successes, or 1's auto-failures. I said I rolled 1's and failed, and he rolled 20's, and succeeded. I apologize if I was not clear enough on that.

Yes, he had the house rule of: if you are smaller, an equivalent distance is the same.
I'm guessing there was a similar one for weapon damage? It's an interesting way to handle it, though the drop distance bit does greatly annoy me on a realism basis, as smaller things can generally fall proportionally further (where 10 body heights is utterly trivial for most large insects, and 100 for smaller insects).

So basically it was a Hunter: The Reckoning game where the ST impressed very strongly on us that we should make very organic characters... to start with who they are before they realize monsters live among us and really develop them. So impressed was I that I made a child of a mixed race family with dreams to be an actor someday, but right now was attending community college, having lots of sex and figuring out who he really was as an adult. In spite of this, he was a devout catholic (parents had met in a mission) and he struggled to justify his lifestyle, but overall was a carefree jerk who had a lot of potential.

The first encounter with a monster, I suckerpunched that guy like a jerk. Broke a bottle over his head and fought dirty because... hey, why would I fight fair? My ST sort of saw this to mean I was crazy "All the unclean must be purged with fire" and assigned me the "Avenger" archetype with the iconic power being to light melee weapons on fire.

Due to my heavily organic character creation style, I had started with something like Dex 2, Melee 1. Because there was a roleplay vote system where the majority of experience was doled out based on quality of roleplay relative to the other players, and the ST changing his mind about how he wanted the flaming sword power to work (for the weaker) several times, then deciding the gun I was using was too powerful, and Hunter: The Reckoning having its supernatural advancement track be based on gambling Conviction and succeeding, and finding myself always failing, it's the only RPG I've ever played where I ended the game concretely less powerful than I started. I pretty embarrassingly failed at everything I ever did, but I was in a team with the Incredible Hulk so I was fine.
