I'm not really sure what's the right word for this, but just a program I can install on my computer that allows me to create music. Something like Mario Paint I guess. Like I don't really care that much about quality of sound. I just more or less want something that let's me compose original music. I got some projects I might need music for.

If you know anything like what I'm talking about, thanks!

If you're OK with MIDIs, Anvil Studio is one I use. It's not that great but it's free so ...

I use muse score to write music. It allows you to write sheet music for various instrument. This may or may not be what you want, though, if you can't read music.

I can't think of anything better than Ableton Live for what you described, but the software is mad pricey yo.

Reason would be ideal, but it's pricey. Cockos Reaper is sixty bucks, and it's a damn good DAW, so that might be cool too.

I personally use Sibelius 6. It's expensive, but it is hands-down the best software of that kind that you'll see on the market (barring Sibelius 7). If you have enough money ('bout $300), get it. If not, I'd suggest getting Sibelius 4 (which is a bit under $100 for download). I've used both, and I have no complaints.
